Hi Patrick,

I believe the Belle Stars actually did a cover of a Shirley Ellis original.

Hi Michel,

I have to agree a great artist with some great songs. In fact the very first CD I ever bought was Jim Croce's greatest hits (Photograhs and Memories) way back in the 1980's when CD's were still a novelty.

I am trying at the moment to learn Time In A Bottle. I can sing it, I just can't get the fingerpicking for the accompanyment. But I will.

Hi Buddy,

The one here on Chordie seems pretty accurate. Especially if you can get  an organ accompanyment.

This is probably a silly question but how do you build a set list for a band / gig?

There are obviously some things you have to do. Such as play stuff that you know and play to your crowd.

But how do you decide what to play when?

For example should you start slowly and then build up or open with a barnstormer?

Do you do three fast to one slow and two medium tempo?

I know it depends on the band, the gig and the crowd, but how do you do it?

Many thanks

David

Just a bit of useless information about cricket.

The very first (recognised) international cricket match took place in 1847. Between the USA and Canada.

The last time England fielded a cricket team where 100% of the team were born in England was in 1989, and that was only because Robin Smith and Allan Lamb (both born and bred South Africans) were unavailable.

Yes - Next question...

Sorry being silly today. Have a look at the link for the Ultimate chord chart.
The Ultimate Chart is a great reference for any guitar player. It is the considered the best free printable chart of guitar chords. It has more than 1200 chords illustrated as chord diagrams. Perfect as a printed chord reference chart, so you can look up how to play almost any chord you are likely to need.

The perfect C&W song for me ahs to be one of the following. (Depending entirely on my mood at the time)

Jolene - Dolly Parton
I'm so lonesome I could cry - Hank Snr
A Cowboy's got to ride - Chris LeDoux
She loved a lot in her time - George Jones
I walk the line - Johnny Cash
Mamma dont let your babies grow up to be cowboys - Willie & Waylon
Boulder to Birmingham - Emmylou Harris

As I said depends on my mood.

Hi Last_rebel,

Bocephus (Hank Williams Jr for the uninitiated) claimed that "I'd love to knock the hell out of you" was the perfect country & western song. Even better than David Allan Coe's "You never even called me by my name"

here are some more Dispute songs

Ruby (don't take your love to town) - Kenny Rodgers
Your gonna miss me when I'm gone - Brooks and Dunn

and just for a bit of variety non county songs

Delilah - Tom Jones (or for the scots amongst us the sensatiobnal alex Harvey band)
Sylvia's Mother - Dr Hook
dancing with tears in my eye's - Ultravox
Don't go breaking my heart - Elton John and Kiki Dee

What do you think is the perfect C&W song?

Guys and gals,

I have been putting my music collection on to my new laptop recently and listening to the music.

Anyway the shuffle was on and it threw up "Come Dancing" by the Kinks.
I had forgotten all about the song, but as soon as I heard it I was transported back to 1983 and asking a young woman to "Come Dancing" at a disco on holiday in Benidorm (Spain)
What was the last song that evoked an unexpected memeory for you?

Hi Nikkicarm8,

I wish you well with your new band.

Have you tried advertising locally? Local shops etc.
There are also quite a few adverts for bands looking for guitarists in some of the music stores in Glasgow. (McCormacks, the Guitar store, Guitar Guitar etc)

Also ask your music playing friends. maybe starting your own band.

Good luck

Hi Weedjie,

I dont get back to Glasgow as much as I would like but I am back next weekend 4th / 5th August. If you fancy a jam (sun 5th is ideal although I could also at a streach do the Saturday) let me know and we can arrange something.

Hi Phil,

IMHO Hendrix is only a "guitar god" because he died young.

How do I get to that opinion? Recently I have been listening to a lot of blues for a course I am doing. We need to listen and practice to a lot of electric blues. So lots of Hendrix, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Clapton etc etc

Listening to the different styles I can appreciate that Hendrix was a marvellous player and grew to become a great showman. But his music does nothing for me. SRV on the other hand makes me want to grab my guitar and play every time I hear him play.

If I was to make any comparison it would be to James Dean. A good technical actor still revered as a style icon. But would either still be as popular / idolised / adored if they were still alive today?

my 2 pennies.
