im also into modern punk/metal stuff like story of the year, saosin, three days grace, breaking benjamin, and finger eleven

yay, i get to share something new i learned haha. The note you hear when you pluck a string is a result of the string being a certain length. pressing the string against a fret, in a sense makes the string shorter, giving it a higher pitched sound. When you put a capo on and put your finger , say on the 12th fret, the string is just as long as when you put your finger on the 12th fret without the capo. i hope that made sense. kind of sad... but i just learned this in math class... go figure.

i agree with moddish, tons of bands got their names from their favorite artists songs. like "Jet" was a Beatles song thats not very well known.

rockerchick, dont know if you want the piano tabs or the guitar chords so ill post both

piano:

depends on what kind of music you're in to. anthem of our dying day by story of the year is an awesome punk song that uses power chords in drop d tuning. have fun!

hate to sound like broken record but practice practice practice and listen listen listen wink and if you're not into that try some Damien Rice or like Pix said Ben Harper. Also there's a not very well known group called youth group that has a couple Jack Johnson sounding tunes. Good Luck!

I was bored the other day, and heard the song 'Boston' by Augustana. The piano intro sounded beautiful so i thought, how hard can it be? I plugged in my dads old keyboard and figured out and memorized the piece in minutes. I've never really tried to play piano before and was surprised at how easy it was. My question to you chordians is this: Is piano just naturally an easy intstrument to play? Do you think playing guitar has any effect on how good you are at playing other musical instruments?

funny you should mention this, i was just thinking the same thing. It's kinda funny how close people can become with inanimate objects.  I don't know about you guys, but my guitar is definately a part of me. In a sense i think we all become what we are passionate about, whether it be other people or objects like a guitar. I miss my guitar when i leave it!

Avril Lavigne = another one of those pop artists that all sound the same to me...

Don't get me wrong, but in today's world it's like there's a ton of artists all fighting over the same sound. I can turn on the radio and listen to a couple songs and none of them stand out to me... not saying that the musics not good, or the artists don't have talent it just doesn't seem like people like original music anymore. Kind of sad, but the music from this era isn't going to have hardly any legends like The Beatles, Zeppelin, BB King etc. People aren't going to look at fall out boy or Avril Lavigne and say their music was revolutionary or life changing. guess its up to our generation to change that wink

emo is more screaming, i hate my life, i wish i was dead kind of stuff. punk rock is more things are bad but there's still hope. i know plenty of people who listen to punk rock and dress normally, have friends, and are fun to be around. now as far as emo and punk lifestyle, it differs wherever you go. hmm...the thin border between ways of music and ways of life.

I wouldn't say it all sucks... there's not going to be any music legends from this decade though. sure, everyone will remember hendrix, zeppelin, pink floyd, the beatles, the rolling stones etc. but no ones going to remember fallout boy, or sean kingston 30 years from now... kind of sad, but its the truth.

hi guys! just wanna ask a question about he movie "school of rock" by black jack,
anyone here who can tell me whats the song that he made the kid(boy) follow him to play electric guitar the very first time he found out the kid(boy) knows how to play the guitar?

sorry if i misinterpreted this but i think your asking what song he made the kids play at the beggining when he found out they could play music? the song he had them playing was smoke on the water by deep purple. It's pretty easy to play and i know there's like a billion versions of it here on chordie.
