Wheres a good place to find out what the little frills etc are in a song...all the hammer ons....bass runs .....etc etc.  for example at the end of the D chord during the second verse of Bad moon Rising?

Thanks,

Pat

Get your right foot tapping along and play in time to the taps...like playing with a drum.  It'll take a couple of goes to get the feel as it's an extra thing to do....but it works wonders.

Unless you are a natural guitar player at some point you will need lessons.  Get the classes but don't be afraid to say I want to learn these techniques or these songs.

When I started I avoided songs with F at all costs.  However it's not the solution.  Sooner or later you are going to have to start playing F and other barre chords.  play an e shape as normal but use finger 2,3 and 4.  This will leave your first finger free to make the barre.

Just play the E shape until you are confidant of hitting it.  then slide it up a fret and Barre......

I know quiet a few experianced guitar players who insist on tuning by ear.  To be honest, I think it's a bit of an ego thing with them.  Sound can be measured in the same way that weight and distance can be measured.  We wouldn't expect to judge a distance by eye and be right each time...so why expect it with sound by ear?

Get a decent tuner that clamps on the head and works from vibrations.  Works everywhere and will always be right.

Enjoy,

Pat

Anything that depends more on a software engineer than a musician.

I second the nomination for 'Tears in Heaven'.  Yes it has a second guitar which adds a lot to the song.  But if you play the first guitar it's fantastic.   I play it on my own and I think it sounds great.

Second suggestion for something completly differant is Damian Rice's Cannonball.

Enjoy

Good Riddance by Green Day.  Easy to play and sing.  Also Tears in Heaven by Eric Clapton.  Not so easy but worth the effort!

My first and only acoustic is a Tanglewood and I love it dearly.  A number of my guitar playing friends say it has a lovely voice and action.

If it dounded good at first and now it doesn't, suggests something has changed.  Mayber you've changed the strings and used a heavier gauge than the guiter is used to?  I only use Martin extra light and I recently fitted a heavier string in error and it sounded awfull.  they just didn't sit as well in the worn parts of the frets.  Changed to the usual and happy days.

Hope this helps,

Pat

F is often the first barre chord we have to learn.  However I found it one of the hardest because it's at the top of the neck.  Try moving the shape down so that you are playing a barre A.  It's a more natural shape for your hand.  It might help.....and....ow yes.....another thing.....practice!!

Learn F and G as well and you will have enough to play most Irish ballads.  Enjoy

Practise makes ..... better lol!!  Best way to progress is to play with other people.  As far as singing goes nearly everyone can to a greater or lesser degree.  Most important is to make sure that you play the song in the right key.  If you sing naturally at a higher pitch then an original tabbed song from Johnny cash won't suit you will need to transpose it.

Enjoy above all!

Hi all.  It could also be a cirulation problem.  If you aren't sitting comfortably and your left hand is raised too high it can cause pain.

A lot of musicians who play 'classical' instruments like wind and string look down on the humble guitar.  There is a huge snob factor involved.
