Well for more than words I'd hit the low e then pluck the high E and the B together with your fingers, then you'll pluck the A at 2nd fret, the E and B all together and so on. The chords shown over most tab like this just gives you a workable finger positioning for the picking (for example I would guess the first chord to be a g) Or at least thats what I would be using. for the picking hand I'd use my thumb on the root notes and keep my next 3 fingers on the g,b and e strings for the plucking. Hope that helps a little...Peace!

Hello everyone! I started a Youtube group last night for use by fellow chordians. I set this up as a place for members to share their work with other members. I thought this could be great fun and a very useful tool. I think it will be a tremendous asset to be able to post videos to help explain different techniques and share ideas. I think it could also be great for the songwriters who post their lyrics and chords here. (you can post examples of the rythm you have in mind to accompany your lyrics & chords)  I'd like to invite all members to join and post their work. If you don't want to post vids you can still join and check out the work of your fellow forumist. You can post vids on the group without posting it for the world. You can select the people you want to be allowed to see it! Anyway, I hope to see you all there! If your interested just follow the link I have posted below. Thank You!

http://www.youtube.com/group/Chordians   I'd ask that we please post only music related material! Let's keep it Clean Please!

I've been listening to alot of diffrent stuff recently...My 2 favorites so far for the day are http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UmbcOpPvQGk   and   http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rgyh-5EQHjg    These stay in my head...lol

Well it depends on the sound I'm going for. Sometimes I'll use the back of my nails on my first 3 fingers (or 2 or 1) Most of the time though I just use my thumb. I had the same problem as you at first but it improves with practice. Also over time your thumb will build up a callouse just like your finger tips and it won't have that tendency to catch the strings as much. Peace!

Well I'm not out to be famous by no means but I wouldn't feel right calling it a hobby either. I consider it more of a passion or a part of me. I know that sounds stupid...lol I play because it brings me joy and a since of accomplishment. It relaxes me...Pick up the guitar close my eyes, play and just drift with the music. Of course with my playing it's more like clinging to the raft in rapids...lol I've been playing for almost a year now and have no intentions of ever stopping. I've got a guitar in my hands at least 4hrs a day. I just wish I would have discovered the joy of it earlier in life...But as they say "It's never too late to be what you always wanted to be" I'm happy just to have the music, you can keep the fame...  Peace!

I believe Jack Johnson was fairly original when he came out but has grown more mainstream now and he's deffinetly had his share of influence...Just a thought. It's a tough question for sure..I thought about Gorillaz..I guess they are fairly unique and influential...Not sure though...I'll give this some thought and post back.      Peace!

Oh man, Books, well where to start..I read ALOT!! I tend to favor fantasy and horror but read a little of everything. My Favorite book is A Boys Life by Robert McCammon. Everyone should read this book at least once. It really reminded me of the magic of a youthful imagination..(makes you remember being a kid) I've read all of steven kings, Dean koontz, robert jordans, Brian Jacquees, Terry Goodkind, Terry Brooks and many more authors works. I like a good classic thrown in every once in awhile also. I've read the original tarzan, treasure island, Count of Monte Crisco.. In the last month or so...I'll stop there although I'm leaving out some of my favorites but there's just way to many to mention...Peace!

frankster,
Go watch some of my videos on youtube, you will lose that complex very quickly lol
I have fun doing it even though I know I am not great, but as long as you enjoy yerself ye can ignore everything, or learn to live with knowing yer not great but you enjoy it.
Thats what I do anyway. I seem to get a lot of compliments sometimes but I really dont see why. But still nice to have them even if it is someone just being nice. lol something I find hard to do sometimes, I just like telling people straight.

So hope you have lost theta complex and it is rid of forever.

and that goes for anyone else that thinks they are not that good. Just like Roger said somewhere on the forum, if you have the balls/guts to go and do something then it is good.
And you if like it, someone somewhere in the world will like it too, you will not be the only one that likes it, and if you get only one person liking what you do then you have succeeded.

Ken

Hey man couldn't help it had to look you up on youtube:)  You really do have some great songs posted. Well done! Really enjoyed A woman's place! Nice tune! It's still in my head.... Peace!

I've been told that hanging is the best but to always hang them on interior walls. They have less temp change, etc...  Just a thought

This may be little off topic...but in my opinion Martins are not all they're made out to be. I know I'll get alot of conflict about this but it's my opinion only... I believe that Martins popularity comes from they're long standing in the music industry. I believe that you get accustomed to a sound of a guitar and after awhile it's that sound that others are judged by. With Martin being the oldest I believe it's more a case of a familiar sound than a superior one..If you get what I mean. I have several guitars (yes a Martin or 2 as well) and as far as which one sounds best, it all depends on the one I've been using most at the time. I can play on a Martin for 2 weeks and then pick up anouther and it just doesn't sound as good but then again if I've been playing a Tak,Morgan, S&P,Yairi or other and then pick up the Martin it doesn't sound as good as the one I've been playing... Just a thought... Peace!

Well I used to draw alot (haven't much in years) Also used to write alot (even had a little published) I am now a painter by trade so yea I guess I'm a little artistic...I don't think it helps much as far as learning the fundamenals of guitar but probably helps some with the creative process of creating your own music. As far as math is concerned...I graduated with a degree in engineering so I'm pretty good with math. I do alot of woodworking also If that qualifies as creative...?  I'm not really sure if any of that is really related to music though...I can Ussually pick up songs and riffs fairly easy but only if I have the tab or chords. I don't have the ear for it. At least not yet but I've only been playing guitar for about 11 months so maybe that just comes with time. Peace!

Hey man! Jacks one of my favorites! Sitting waiting wishing and Times like these are both fairly easy to play the way he plays them. I'll be happy to offer any assistance I can if you wish. You may want to try some Ben Harper especially Steal my Kisses (only g d c) I'll go through my songbooks and offer a few more suggestions a little latter this evening. Peace!

Better Together is also fairly simple as far as chords go but the rythym takes a little practise to get tight...

Yep, just picked it up last week! A friend of mine has a tutorial for it on youtube if you want to check it out.  Here's the link http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dNJhMZiktow   Just a tip if you'll form your D chord by laying your index finger on the E b & G strings barring them and put your middle finger on the 3rd fret b string. This allow you to switch to the F#minor chord (with this picking pattern) by only raising the middle finger and then fretting the d string at the 4th. also helps with the change to Bminor. It's hard to explain in text... If you'd like I could make a quick vid of the easier fingerings and send it to ya... Hope that helps! Peace!

sometimes, I also play the C chord in a similar way

x   x   x   x   o   x
x   x   x   o   x   x
x   o   o   x   x   x

That's a Fmaj7 I believe. Well it is if your strumming from the A string down...

I believe the C/G is 332010 but I could be mistaken...Peace!

I do depending on the next chord in the progression. I'll use 320033 when changing to a D ,Em7,Cadd9..etc and use 320003 when changing to a C, Fmaj7..etc I look at every song before I sit down to learn it and use the fingering for the chords that make the progression easiest for me. I ussually try to incorporate guides and pivots into my changes to ease them. Peace!

Ok there's several ways to store a guitar....What's the best? I have a couple hanging on interior walls, a few in cases, and some on stands. Which is best for the guitar? When storing in a case is it best to lay it flat, on it's side, or standing up?  Do the same rules apply to both acoustic and electric. I ask this because of the weight diffrences and the strain put on the neck from hanging...If your not going to play it for a while is tunnig down a step to release a little tension a good idea? I'm considering bulding a 8ft x 8ft display case. Divided up into 8 seperate sections with individual framed glass doors. I was considering hanging the guitars in order to decrease the depth of the case. Do you think this would be fine for the guitars. Some are fairly valuable and I would hate to cause any damage! Thanks! Peace!

I have a Simon and Patrick Showcase Rosewood and Love it!!! I have many other guitars and the S&P Is the one I always play on. It's the only guitar that I have that I would have to replace if it was damaged or stolen. I'm already checking ebay everyday for anouther! Love the sound and playability of this guitar!!

Simon and Patrick are made by the same company that makes Seagull and Art & luthier guitars. If you want more info let me know. I've done a descent bit of research on the company.

I actually posted a vid of me playing The joker with it here on chordie in the tutorials. If you check out the vid, please keep in mind that I've only been playing for 11 months:) But I'd love to have some feedback on it... Anyway, Congrats on your find!! Peace!
