           .45-- shinedown
           simple man- lynyrd skynyrd
           fortunate son- CCR

Well my dad was a music director in the texas/lousisana area for over 35 years and is one of the most brilliant pianists, singers, and all around musicians ive ever met. hes the one that got me started on guitar... i grew up my whole life around traditional southern gospel styled music...
ANd then on my grandma's side she had four brothers that were all prize winning bluegrass fiddlers banjo players and guitarists.

Shinedown's .45 is a good one to play on acoustic, and Simple Man by Lynyrd SKynyrd sounds cool on a standard too.... for both of those I like to tune down a half step
I'm working on an acoustic version of the intro from metallica's nothing else matters thats sounding pretty sweet so far

well i got mine from the lynyrd skynyrd song 'last rebel'
the first half was a tribute to the last confederate troops of the american civil war who didnt hear about the surrender...
and the second half was about a guy who was 'the last rebel' kind of the last of a dying breed
'just a boy with his old guitar
keeps to himself and everybody takes him wrong'
I just really related to this song.... all of the lyrics just sounded so much like me... even though i'm a girl...

LYNYRD SKYNYRD FREE BIRD YEAH!!! smile ...well BEFORE ronnie died anyway
ZZ tops awesome
and then u know AcDc, metallica,....
and the charlie daniels band...

Hmmm.... I think probly a really nice les paul.... or i wonder how you'd go about getting your name on your guitar neck. you know like all those old country guys did... i'd like a black D-35 martin with my name across it

Hey you've gotta pay tribute to Hank Sr. besides just the ones he's famous for singing hes written hundreds of songs for classic country singers that he never got much credit for.... from Roy Acuff to Rya Price, Ernest Tubb.... and his songs almost never used more than three or four chords

country musics the best for learning simple three chord switches and structures... anything by Hank Williams Sr.
Johnny Cash is another good one but his rhthym was alittle crazy...

Um its kind of crazy for the intro its like Down Up (extremely small rest) Down then hit the guitar with the side of your finger... (thats where that little click thumpy sound came from) I think he had a ring on int he video... anyway when you get into the actual verses its basically the same rythym but fill in the thump sound with another downstroke and give a small pause at then ends of each line.... lol  i guess thats probly the most useless non helpful comment ever but i learned the song by ear so im no expert

I've always wanted a D-35 Martin... thats the "Johnny Cash" made in his honor cuz he always played a black Martin. Its all black and shiny with pearl edges and has the classic Martin tone... SO Sweet

If you can find it 'Long haired country boy' by charlie daniels is really easy. it stays on D all the way thru the verse then switches maybe twice in the chorus
Its a bouncing rhthym by the way so hit the D string then strum then hit the A string then strum... its fun and simple

Hey I just joined up too...
I'm a girl, 16, and i've been playing about 4 years now
Its cool to know theres so many other girl players out there seems like i never meet any...

All I can do is write about it- by Lynyrd SKynyrd
The rhythms pretty simple but it still helps build up your strumming and chord switching skills

lol thats cool
My first guitar was... well i'm not sure exactly what it was. It looked kind of like one of those mexican guitars but that sticker on the inside was like in Korean or something so i don't know that brand name. I bought it for five bucks from my cousin about 3 years ago. The strings were really high off the fret board so it burnt my fingers up but I liked it because it was a lot louder than most acoustics for some reason.... I finally had to quit playing it when I loaned it to a friend and he lost the nut...... lol dont ask me how that happened....
Anyway I called it 'the junker'. Personally I think playing on a crappy guitar is part of 'paying your dues', which wasn't much fun on the junker. my fingers looked id run em thru a paper shredder lol

Well usually when I get the chords to a song I listen to it on a CD or something and try to play WITH the recording. That always help you pick up on the rythym.
One thing I learned that might help if ur having trouble is that beginners tend to grip the pick really tight trying not to drop it... Loosen up and hold it firmly but not TOO firmly and keep your movements loose and flowing. Dont be scared of upstrokes smile

hey no pain no gain dude.... u just gotta keep playing anyway. If you keep going at it steady they'll eventually get calloused. But if you quit and come back again you'll probly have to start all over.
by they way i dont know what kind of guitar you're playing but alot of times beginners get a cheap acoustic to start out on and the strings on some guitars are farther from the fret board than others. Its better for a beginner to play a guitar with strings closer to the neck... getting soft strings is another way to make it a little better.
