In base ball many times the movements are a code,  signals to the players, or base runners.

Sometimes folks you have to take the good with the bad,  But if it is any consolation, "Boy bands' are most definitely a European (British) creation.

legend says when Buddy Holly was looking for a band name, he rejected the Beetles, because he didn't like the pun.
later the Beatles picked their name because they wanted an Insect name like Buddy Holly' Crickets.

Blues has many "African" traits, but it is most definitely  an American creation.   It also gave root too Jazz, and Rock.

Disco is also an American creation,  it's a Marketing term that was used to sell crappy over produced R&B in the late 70's.   There is nothing wrong with Dance music,  Blues, Jazz and Rock all started as Dance music.  It only sucks when it's a Soulless product,  marketed to  the young,  much like Hip-Hop today.

hey doc after you metiond him I had to get out my Django Cd,  he's playing right now.  didn't know he was Belgian.

Have you heard of The "Presidents of the United States of America".  They recorded their first Cd  with two guitars, one strung with just three guitar strings, the other with just two bass strings.

Rap and Hip-Hop music upon it's birth used to be fun, interesting, multi-topical, and full of clever, witty lyrics. Groups such as Sugar Hill Gang and Kurtis Blow were some of the good stuff of which I speak. Todays Rap/Hip-Hop, and now I will not call it music due to the majority of non-musicians in the genre, is a cluttered with uni-topical themes, self-grandiose attitudes,  empty inarticulate vocal-vomit , and tough-guy posturing. How many ways can one say "look at how much money I have and I'll shoot you with my gun if you disrespect me." It's unimaginative crud and  a sad fact that this empty noise has become the voice of a generation. Whewwww....I feel better now!

I second that,  Todays hip-hop is so simple musically, its one sampled hook repeated over and over,  anyone can do it.

Bar 7 is best but sometimes a little high. Does anyone play it 02444x (from low E to high E)?? I know it's cheating to ignore the first string but as Zurf points out it's damn hard.

Who cares if if it's "cheating"?  If it works, do it.

6 is a good number,  7 would make chords, especially bar chords much more difficult,  And thats the last thing I need.

Neco Case plays a tenor guitar with only 4 strings.

Rodger Mcguinn's guitar  doubles his G string one octave lower like a 12 string.

Doc, It would be almost impossible to list all of the different styles of music in America.  We are a land of Immigrants,  and we all brought our native music with us.  Much of American music is a mixture of different ethnicities forming something all together new.  Like Jazz which is African rhythms and forms played on western instruments, with western chord, and/or  modal progressions.

Most Americans have Mixed ancestry as well,  Many African Americans  have some "white" ancestry as well,  But that does not make them any less "real" African American.

I think of it more like how people who don't play guitar, classify guitarists.   Most "lead" guitarists play "rhythm" parts when they are not playing fills,  or solos.

Vocalists who have a powerful voice with great range are going to be drawn to music that will let them use that voice.  Progressive Hard Rock is a type music that will give many that chance.
What is best though is always a matter of opinion,  and other genres of music also have outstanding vocalists.  Opera singers go from soft, and sweet, to loud, and raucous, displaying great range in the process. They also preform for the most part without the amplification and effects a rock band will have.

Doc try taking lessons in a style you don't normally play in,  I was a simple 3 chord strummer for years,  I took a classical guitar class in college and got much better with theory, and finger picking.

the 60's and 70's are the Golden age of rock because thats when it grew from being just simple Dance music, to an Art form.   Bands started adding different instruments, rhythms, etc.   This is when most of the genres of rock emerged,  Folk Rock, Country Rock, Acid Rock, Heavy metal, Jazz fusion,  Progressive rock,  Punk rock, and even Rap.

My first song was "Tom Dooley",  the Hardest one I play is "The Wind Cries Mary.

"House of the Rising Sun" was one of the songs I learned as a beginner,  it is a must here too.

try a bag of rice, wrapped in a kitchen towel,  It won't stick, and you can refreeze it over and over.

Someone who is beaten during an arrest can, and often does, get compensation, regardless of guilt.
If some one resists arrest in Belgium don't the police subdue them?

Open tunings are great for slide guitar, the old bluesmen used them a lot because the cheap mail order guitars they used often had high action.

I bought a Washburn D12, because it was the first black guitar with a cutaway, that I found in my price range.
Its still my main guitar today.
