Yes it is I have one, But I find it more suitable for use as a recording asset than a performance one only because it takes time to switch keys for harmony but it has some nice features including a loop function and great reverb and delays you just have to play with it to find how it best suits your needs.

I use lighter strings on electric than my acoustic I agree there is a difference between the two, most of my composing is done on an acoustic even recording to a click track that I add electric and bass too. My style of playing is quite different on electric because you can express yourself more with effects and volume control.

Yes on one occasion, In Las Vegas I agreed to play with a guy and his wife for a gig upstate in some small town. His wife played a Hammond organ with bass pedals and he played drums,  halfway into the gig he got ticked off at what I was saying on the mike in between songs ( it was clean) he just didn't like me and told me to take my gear and leave but I told him since I was a member of the Musicians Union he had to pay me for the gig he said no and I called the musicians union and they sent a representative while I waited. begrudgingly he forked out my money and I had no transportation home so I had to carry my amp and guitar to the highway and hitch a ride back to Las Vegas that was the only time I recall being told to leave but I did leave several bands for various reasons.

The Fender Bullets comment made me laugh !  Years ago I played a Fender Mustang, and went through about 4 sets in one gig.  The darn strings kept launching those little swedged on "Bullets" across the stage literally like their namesake.  Turns out they had been over-crimped and a whole lot of them suffered breakage ballistically and were eventually recalled.

Went back to Ernie Ball's and didn't look back.  No lawsuits, but spent more time changing strings than playing that night.  The Bar crowd was in good humour.... one would go "Ping", i'd cuss, they'd laugh and I'd go to work as a "Techie".  Some memories just make you chuckle.  big_smile

been there lol

Wow
These conversations blow my mind !

I did not realize musicians go through so many strings. I think I have  changed my strings twice the whole time I have owned my guitars.
However, I don't play or practice nearly as often as any of you.
I can't imagine a string breaking - why does that happen? Is it because you strum too hard, bend to much or what ?
Jim

Jim sometimes you don't change strings often enough or your using to stiff of a pick or the right string for your style  (gauge)

glad to know your so happy with your new baby. what strings are you putting on....fender bullets?

I will keep my fingers crossed for you smile My friend Jim who just got the same model as me suggested Elixir but I will switch to GHS .09 to .043 they have always been very reliable and longer lasting, I like the innovations especially the pickups noiseless and real punchy the tone is outstanding nuff said smile

Funny you should mention that, my Srat always sounded better with GHS strings! Yet the Tele is better with Fenders...go figure?

My pal Adrian (big Ade to his mates) tried some Earnie Balls, I said I've tried them in the past and they're too bendy. I saw him a week later and he told me they were in the bin, he plays finger picking style so they sound out of tune all the time, back to bullets!

Phill I think the bottom line iis you have to go with what works for you, The Strat and Tele are two different animals I have both and notice a difference in sustain, volume, and ease of playing so you gotta trust your experience.

WOW!!! this Strat is outstanding only one thing to make it better is to change strings. my friend who is a good player just got one and told me the same thing but other than that it plays and sounds beautiful! I will put up a video when I get the chance I am really busy with a new song and I get together tomorrow for a recording session to lay a rhythm track with the drummer
the bass and primary rhythm tracks were recorded last week along with a rhythm machine and then come the vocals and harmonies and of course a nice tasty lead solo smile

With the exchange rate, that works out very similar. All the ones I've seen on the web have the hard case also. I did find a site advertising the maple neck but I want to see if they'll take my old Strat in part exchange. I don't play it now, but I miss the whammy bar! Then I still have to work on Ann!!!!!!!! Wish me luck

Keeping my fingers crossed for you smile most will not except a trade in I tried that and was told to sell it on Reverb.com Happy Holidays to you and Ann smile

The pic came up with me! I fell in love immediately. Then I checked out Jim's vid and loved it even more. So I checked out the price on UK websites...£1400 or there about, lefties are £1800 ish and that's with the rosewood neck. If I'm going to get one, and I really want one, I want a maple neck. I wonder how much they'd want for that?
Just as an aside. Clapton saw various Americans playing Strats in the late 60s, but couldn't get the maple neck in the UK, so he bought several in the US while on tour with Cream!

Phill it is more then a beautiful guitar it has some updates on the fretboard which make it lot easier to reach the notes on the upper frets and I like the maple necks also, there is no difference in price for the maple neck at Sweetwater I wound up playing (with tax) 1740.00 and it includes a hardshell case! smile

Got it now - what a beautiful guitar.  I would love one, but  way ut of my price range. If I had the skills of some the players on here I might consider it, but with my playing ability it would be a poor investment.

Thanks for showing this Russell - and many happy hours of playing this beauty!

JIM

Thanks Jim smile it is a beauty to be sure,  I have an ongoing account with Sweetwater for the last 10 years I run up my credit and pay it down but it seems I am always finding new toys so in effect I am leasing not owning but it works for me smile  To get the skills you have to practice and study if you wish to excel this is a formula for life in any endeavor smile

Beautiful guitar, Russell ... that Sky Burst Metallic finish is just stunning, and I've always preferred their maple necks to the ebony / rosewood capped ones. I did a bit of reading on it, and discovered that it has noiseless single-coil pickups ... I didn't know such a thing existed. Nice purchase, and may you have many years of enjoyment with it.

Thanks TF I was quite smitten with the appearance and one nice feature it has is the neck is a C shape but at the top it contures into a D shape to allow easy fretting for those high screaming notes love it! smile

If I could play like this player - I'd own one for sure.

If I was 30 years younger I'd want to be sitting on the couch with her - forget the guitar! smile

We are just recording original songs at the moment on my Tascam DP24 and the drummer is doing side gigs with another band but we still remain, friends, my health has been a hindrance to gigging I am dealing with emphysema brought on by my own ignorance from smoking, that and advancing age but I remain optimistic smile
