I'm 14...but as soon as you tell people that, you lose all credibility.  But thats ok.  Any other guitar players my age have msn or yahoo messenger that wanna talk about playing? hit me up

I am 57, but still play like I am 14. You could consider that statement either, humility or honesty, whichever you prefer. You can call me grandpa if you like. I just introduced my 16 year old daughter to the guitar. I gave her my old Ovation. She is a piano player but has long slender fingers just made for the guitar. I hope she continues with it.

I have heard some say that the guitar was better after I replaced the pots. Is that slang for pickups? Please explain if you would be so kind.

I have been lurking on this site a bit and have learned quite a bit. Could someone tell me what a clear channel is? I am assuming it has something to do with the amplification but may be wrong. Also why all the differences in the pickups? Are these not just electrical components made pretty much the same way? Most electronic components are made by only one or two manufacturers and just marketed differently. One part may be labeled "premium" and sell for several times more than the part just genericaly labeled. Does this hold true for guitar components as well? While I am asking, what in the heck is a "dirty pickup", or a "dirty fingers" pickup, and why are they any better than a regular pickup? One last question, and please bear with me here. How could one purchase an instrument online? I don't think I would feel comfortable doing this without first having picked up the instrument and playing it. I have read that many instruments are very different from one to the other, even the same brand and series. If one were to pick up a Fender Strat in a music store, play it, and like it, how could you be sure if you purchased one on line, that it would be just as good? Could any of you shed some light on this for me please?

I have come to the conclusion that it makes no difference what price I pay for a guitar. I still manage to sound like crap. I was into a music store last week and played some $2500 Gibsons and a $148.00 Epi. SG I liked the Epi better. Go figure. I am tempted to buy one, although I probably would not use it enough to warrant owning one. The action was great and it just felt and looked good. Anyone have any experience with these. Any good or a piece of crap?

I have generally played ovation acoustics over the years. Now with old age creeping up and a touch of arthritis setting in I have to make a change. The Fender tele and strat necks seem to fit me better for the same reasons you mentioned. They seem to be thinner and more comfortable. I chose a new Stratocoustic and I am thrilled with it. For an inexpensive guitar, ($250.) it has given me many hours of enjoyment. I have to admit that I will have to improve a bunch, to even be considered a poor guitar player, but I sure have fun.

Hello! I am new to the forum, and if this topic has been brought up before, please forgive me, as I did not see it in the posts that I reviewed. I recently purchased a Fender Stratacoustic guitar. I am thrilled with it. For a fairly inexpensive instrument, it has given me hours of enjoyment. I have a little Fender practice amp, (a Frontman 15R) that I bought used. It is about all I dare use, here in my apartment, to keep from getting into trouble. I have been reading up on the Fender Acoustasonic amps. Does anyone have any experience with these? What advantages would they provide me? Do they only enhance acoustic or would they also work for electric acoustic? I am checking out some used ones on e-bay and would like an opinion from the experts here on this forum. Any input would be appreciated.
