Hey Butch8844, Saw that none have responded so far and figuered that your question covers
such a wide spectrum that it would be hard to answer. Most players probably would not
want to recommend this and that and have you end up not happy with what they
recomended. I will say your best bet is the "hands on" method to find what you want. Go
to stores and let them know you are looking for the lower-end gear and play, listen and
see if any fit into your budget. There are always the used gear to try out also. Remember
you can always upgrade later.        Mike      p.s.  just an ol pharts opinion

Just wanted to say welcome to David and Sinkybhoy. New here myself and find everyone helpful and good

people. I'm not familiar with Sinkys or Alvees neck of the woods but would like to visit sometime, however

Davids and now Selsos' home is familiar. I work in Texas alot around San Angelo, Abiliene, up to Lubbock

and Amarillo. Also I have property in Vega, Tx., just west of Amarillo. What brought Selso to Tx.?

Anyway you never know....... might be jammin together sometime, with a frosty one er two.     Mike

You are so right Selso. I just have a hard time reading anything other than informative material. Do
like sci-fi tho. How about a sci-fi story surrounding a musician? Has anyone read or knows of one?
Now that I could get into. Thanx Selso,           Mike

Kinda like you KAP, don't read that much unless it's a "how to" book. Gf is avid, avid reader, mostly dog
books but many others too. I admire all of you that are big readers. Guess I'm too restless or something?

                                                                                                                                   Mike

Hi all,
Yep-got the bug bad Pix! Got a boat last year and since we can get to a launch and be in the water
in about 15 min. it can be hard to resist. Z-- I don't think you would like the winters here even tho
for the most part they are mild but the summers are very nice. We caught alot of fish that day.
Thru back shakers(fish too small to keep legally) and keepers, waiting for the "biggin". BTW.....
they can also be too big to keep. Lots of do's and don'ts in the fishing regs.

Yea Mek, those "giant" ones are very dangerous!! LOL Lucky these are bottom feeders. They do have
sharp spine-like sides tho. Hope you get a chance to fish more with your family, it's good for you, and
     thanks again for the help.

I grew up in the Ohio Valley area and western Pa.,Warren, and others, Dad worked constuction so we
moved alot. Rememer fishing for "cats" in the Ohio River. Couldn't eat them because of the polution.
Zurf--- I remember fishing the spill-way of the Kinzua Dam. Dad caught a nice musky there. That was
so long ago. Wonder how the fishing is there now? Really miss cat fishing. If I go up river from here
around 40 miles there are cats to be caught. This years salmon run is suppose to be the best run since
the 1940's. Awsome! Hope they can figuere out how to keep the sea lions from ruining the run!!

But for now it's walley time. I'm just now learning how to fish the river for them. Would appreciate any
advice from other walley anglers.            Mike

Hey Mek, Very good. You have a great singing voice. You noted that you were playing your guitar
with the simplest of pick/strum. In my opinion.....simple can be the best way for some songs.
Keep up the hard work-hope to hear more.           Mike

Hey Cam, Oh yea that's another great point! Phrasing. The ability to fit the song words into the musicical structure
of the song. I'm sure there are words in this particular song Tony is working on that are given more
or given less time in each measure. Also the sylables of words can confuse us a little. Even the simple
task of breathing at the right moment so as you have enough breath to finish a long phrase.

If anyones interested: Who'd a thunk.... but there's a book, "Singing For Dummies", that is available and is
a good source. I have one.                   Mike

Hey Tony, Wierd isn't it? I mean the way you hear it in your head but your head, fingers and voice are going
different ways. Sometimes if you are concentrating too much on any ONE of the above the others
get lost. Practice and take it slow and gradually work up to the normal tempo of the song. Maybe
try using a metranome or drum machine if you have one. If not I'd recommend a drum machine
cause they are fun to play along with while practicing. One other thing is not to concentrate too
much on the quality of your singing voice. Work that later. Recording yourself is a great help also.

Good luck, hope I gave you some ideas,     Mike

Hey Stransongs, Nice job! This song has that "different" feel to it. I think I can hear the phrygian mode
over those chords? That's what came to mind.              Mike

Hey guys, sorry for the confusion. I did omit the low and high E strings which one doesn't need to because they do
belong to the A triad and I apologize for that. The way I wrote it out was in finger form on the second fret for the open
A; 1=1st finger, 2=middle finger etc., and I believe Nela was referring to using the 1 finger(index) across the D-G-B
strings any where on the neck and this frees up the pinky to work the 1st E string or whatever.      Mike

Howdy Doug, actually if you do the Spock finger spread between the 1st and 2nd fingers while the 2nd,3rd,4th are bunched together this is how they go on the strings.x02340        Mike

Jerome, I wonder this myself. My only reasoning might be that beginners tend to learn songs that are easy to learn and alot of easier music are blues stuff key of E which alot of songs will show a BMaj chord and not an alternate B. So..they then have to
go thru the learning of the dreadful A position barre fingerings. Somehow I think this is good. Learn the barres as soon as you
are ready, but learn which alternates work for each barre. This way you can play the song while you are getting the barres down pat.        Barre F-F#, Bflat-B are down there where the string tension makes it rough for learning. Not sure if this makes any sense but I think what I'm getting to is that songs that show all major chords and A-C-D-E-F-G all have open fingerings
whereas the B has to be barred--unless you have learned that alternate chords are OK to use.

I think I just confused myself-lol,                another NW picker, Mike

Hi all,  Just wondering if you guys/gals have tried using this way of playing an open A and the A form barre:

          open A---- x0234x (2nd fret) 2nd, 3rd, 4th fingers (4th finger can mute the 1st string)

you can slide this finger pattern up and down the neck

A form barre---- slide the open A up and place the 1st finger on the root note on the 5th string of the

           chord being played.

When first learning many moons ago from a 1960's teaching book this is how it was shown. Not knowing
any different I went this direction and works great for me. Lots of practice tho.  Also the 2-3-4
fingers will overlap slightly to fit in the small area.   Mike

Hey Big Mik,  As Bensonp says... practice is a must, and the way you practice is also important.Have you developed a habit

of grabbing the neck with your thumb along the side of the neck while playing open chords? Some people with larger

hands(long fingers) can ususally get away with this but us shorter fingered people need to focus on placing the "ball"

end of the thumb more under the back of the neck to allow  your wrist to curve more upwards and kinda rotating back

toward you. This allows your fingers to be placed on the strings in a more perpendicular way to the fretboard and not

having a tendency to touch the adjacent strings causing the muting of strings like you are saying. This will most

likely be uncomfortable at first but keep at it and all will be well.  Hope this helped,   Mike

Zurf, I know exactly how you feel. I went thru the loss of my GF's dog last year, long story...but somehow I
have a hard time understanding how we can have pets knowing all along that their lifespans are so short
and we will be grieving their loss and for most to find another one to have to go thru it all over. At the same
time I know it's not their fault.... just nature, and to have had them has been a great pleasure. I'm sure
both of you have enjoyed each other.
We now have another(rescued) dog, and another new journey. Wish the best, Mike

Hey Craig, Sorry... can't give thoughts on the class5. Did see a review on the night train and actv4. The guy ran the 4 thru
a blackheart 4-10 cab and he gave good reviews. Can't remember the link offhand but will try to find it, anyway when
I played it thru the vox 12" cab we also hooked in a booster pedal and and got some loudness which I need for playing
at jams and outdoor stuff. Didn't get it yet but will get the head and think about maybe the 4-10 cab. This item is new
so we'll see if others are checking it out. Thanks for the input,  Mike

Hey Tony, Was wondering if you have considered Jamplay or another learning site? Jamplay
does have classical lessons tho I have'nt checked that section out. Lots of really good
things to say about them. 20 bucks a month or less if you subscribe for a year. Best $
     I've spent.        Mike

Hey Hopeful, Speaking for everyone here we know where you are. Since you have just gotten barre chords down have you
practiced jumping from open to barres and back and forth while playing a song? Use both E form and A form barres.
Jamming with others!!! Recently the same thing hit me but i got into a wed. jam night at our local Eagles lodge and now
my lead playing is finally going somewhere---- I just hope it takes me with it.(lol)     Mike
