Hey Cameronkl7 :

Its' true I am on fire at 59 . You can stumble and fall , obstacles get in the way but with the help of the powers that be and all things being equal in life I say go for it with all the gusto you got , you can't keep a good man down !

To myself when I hit a obstacle it's like an other hurdle to jump across . In fact when I find myself in one of those situation ( hitting the wall in learning and creativity ) I kind of smile when I recognize it , it is the harbinger of new things to come in my minds eye .

Delbert is one fine example of what is more than good but great in modern R&B - C/W - and contemporary Blues and traditional Blues .

A giant and living legend , one of the musicians I spent 10 years studying and learning from in my never ending musical education to improve my harp chops and learning R&B and improving on musically .

He's a good buddy of my best musical friend Chan Romero , Chan speaks well of this man saying how much of a gent he is and credit to his music .

His harp playing is deep , hard hitting and very powerful , he also play's a decent guitar too . Have not had the pleasure of his acquaintance but maybe some day .

I run around with a lot of recording artists in the Blues and C/W Rock-A-Anything and Jazz players here on the west coast  .

Hello Gang Of Guitar Gangsters :

Tonight was a night of nights for me .

I was with Chan , been with him playing many times since we met in the winter of 98 just after my left hand's finger tips finally expelled the last painful piece of tiny sharp as a razor glass that was embedded there since " 62 " . I have recorded with him many times but not with the guitar . I have been a session man recording with my harmonica starting that in the late " 70's " . What made tonight special was this :

As I set up to play I realized I had not packed my harps ! I had only my electric guitar so that was that and I was playing electric guitar only for the 1st time with Chan and the other musicians there tonight . The regular electric guitar player was not able to make the session so   I was the center of action now doing electric guitar .

I had done electric acoustic live stuff with Chan before but not just electric and then only once ( it was a biggie to at a PBS special in Los Angeles two years ago ) and on only one song  . When Chan saw me arrive and hook up the electric guitar he dropped his Telecaster and went to his keyboard .

10 years of hard dedicated practice ... I was more than prepared and when it was time to where the rubber hits the road I was moving at freeway speed from the opening when Chan said " Kansas City  " in " C " and off we were to the races , every song after that speed burn arrangement seems easy to handle heh heh .

It was a walk down memory lane as Chan delivered " Talk To Me - Corrina Corrina - Georgia - More Today Than Yesterday " , and some Ray Charles stuff too smile we even did The Beatle's " When I Saw Here Standing There " -  fitting since the Beatles covered Chan's Hippy Hippy Shake ( their 1st hit in England mind you recorded live on the BBC TV Show " Top Of The Pops " ) and about an hour and a half's worth of music flowed by and I was on electric guitar workin it man it was a pure pleasure blast of musical goodness .

10 years - - I started on guitar at 49 , a really late time many would say in one's life to try and become not only good at a given task but to go beyond good and jump into a higher level and league of playing and players . I'm 59 , and it's getting better all the time , a dream of being able to play guitar has become and I am much more the humbled and a much more grateful person for this .

I had my Godin LGXSA

Played like butter in my hands - - so smooooooooove and easy . I just sort of fell into it .

plugged into a Carvin X-60 tube amp circa 1992

< http://www.zikinf.com/_gfx/matos/dyn/la … n-x-60.jpg  > <===<<- Russell NOTE :

The price shown is from a 1992 promo not a recent one smile

No outboard FX only the " presence " and a tad of " spring triggered  reverb " were used  . With it's  single 12" inch " British Blaster " it was more than enough to cut through the mix at the session . I got a rich Bluesy sound , a British Vox sound and a Fender tube sound from this little amp tonight .

The lead lines of - When I Saw Her Standing There - made the band smile while we played it and later many commented saying to me  that it really sounded a lot like the guitar sound of that recording . I was thinking inside my head as I head this :

" Wow  I didn't know I could do that " smile

Hoagy Carmichael's " Georgia I knew in the key it was written , " F " but - -

Chan said " C " and if he said " C " IT"S IN C !

Let this comment hit home on the change from F to C . I have read many times that one should practice every song they know in every key   - -  Well I was perplexed with the fact that I was not fully prepared to do justice to the chordal arrangement sound as I was able to do in F  , but on C I had to work it out fast on the fly .

I did adjust on the fly and was able to produce a really nice alternative arrangement in F that I received big smiles from Chan and the electric bass guitarist and drummer as I was given the " nod " to go for it and do a solo on it , it was really Bluesy too with gut wrenching emotional cries , smooth , silky flowing melancholy and shiny it was .

I realized when I joined this Forum  that there were many older guitar players just starting out or just getting to the point of passing entry level , I am very close to you guys believe me weather your old like a rock like me or a young buck , we are joined so's to speak at the guitar strap smile

I am inspired AGAIN I hope this humble rant is inspirational to anyone else who reads it young or old . Dreams come into one's live all the time and sometimes we are able to not only for-fill them but to help other achieve theirs as well  .

Here's to all of you who are in search , in their quest and thirst for achievement on the guitar and any other musical instrument . I hope you make it too !

Sincerely :

Hurricane Ramon

Russel :

It is quite remarkable how these modeling units mimic so well the real deal stand alone amps & cabinets .

I started late in life on guitar and have been at it had and delicately at it now 10 years , I was 49 when I had a little miracle happen - - one I waited on patiently for 36 years after 2 one gallon sized glass milk bottle were smashed into my left chording hand and that at age 12 stopped my guitar playing that began at age 6 .  The last really painful sharp shard came out on my left ring finger and well I have been at it and it's working good .

These units like your Boss Me-50 and my GNX4 really have helped out big time in producing recordings on our own huh !

Hello Gerald :

It's the melody man .

In the melody's beginning where the vocal(s) begin is a good reference point . Some songs however stray from this rule but 90% of the time it's the " Key " note as it is referred too .

Hello Russell :

Ooooooooops my bad .........

I was just in a hurry to post and well there you are , it's changed .

Hello All :

This my 1st. post here smile

I am a pro musician , I have recorded and played with rock-n-roll - rock-a-billys , blues & jazz and c/w heavys in the music biz . I play bass , electric and acoustic guitars , keyboard , drums , trumpet and diatonic and chromatic harmonicas and I sing a tad too .

I have a GNX4 Digitech  it's out of production ( sadness ) but there are many available in music stores online and off . I paid $ 500.00 for it -- Now don't flip out cause this is a one stop do it all DAW besides a digital FX possessor .

USB

10 really super stomps including a Ibanez Tube Screamer ( with the exact IC Chipset that Ibanez used ) and 9 other essential stomps .

FX engine has Lexicon reverbs plus all the other ones that modern Rockers have to have PLUS it has a single XLR w/phantom power for mics that need it for serious vocal & acoustic guitar and other instruments like violins and diatonic & chromatic harmonicas  .

It's a stand alone two channel at once recorder ( or one at a time ) and up to 4 channels at once via the USB and a pc/mac .

It has the ability to actually mix down to a final two channel .wav from the 8 channels . It can bounce a set of channels to one or two channels so you can to keep on recording more if you need more channels and then export it to a computer to finish it in a mp3 or ......

I use a 2 gig CF memory card , that's the biggest it can recognize . I can record with the mic input an entire practice session or a live gig with it in mono for 6 plus hours or 3 plus hours in stereo .

This only a small portion of what this unit can do .

I have been super happy with this unit too as far as it's workmanship and the service for this bad boy no matter what the .... is wrong , worse case scenario is $75.00 no matter if they have to gut it and replace everything to get it to it's original working condition !

I have a Carvin 60 watt tube with great tone but not every tone I want  over all . The amp & cabinet modeling it has is something awesome to work with for example :

I have a love affair with the sound of a electric bass guitar played through a Ampeg SVT tube amp and cabinet :
< http://www.ampeg.com/products/classic/s … 10E_LG.jpg >

I can get that super sounding model of that sound out of my GNX4 I love it and can push it in stereo . This is again only a small part of it's ability .

For a one man solo ( I have been doing this now for about two years ) it's a hard act to beat .

It's a mixer too for live work . I plug into it from it's stereo line inputs and take the output from my Roland GR33 guitar synthesizer and I plug into a 500 watt stereo power amp and wow ....... vocal ,   electric bass guitar or electric guitar or both as well as all the midi synthesizer sounds all at once can be thrown down on live and looped ! I have not mentioned the midi drum machine , it's too extensive to write about .

Yes I can loop live alone , or use it live with a band , speaking of bands and practicing/jamming performing , I do it this Thursday with my friend " Chan Romero , do a google on this legendary rock-a-billy .

I'm going to "pitch " a few songs I have taken down and will take only my harps and harp mic , bass and electric guitars and plug directly into the P . A . because this unit has separate stereo outs :

two for guitar amps

and

two XLR mic outs so I can plug right into the P . A . Talk about traveling light !

When I do a show with him or others I do the same and add my guitar amps to the equation . I play with a tube amp ( Carvin X-60 ) and a x-tor amp ( Yamaha 50 watt ) , I usually don't play electric bass live but if I do , I use the 500 watt solid state stereo amp and X2 Peavy single 15" Black Widows and blow the roof off I love the bass I get crazy on it smile

There are similar units out there but to be honest they cost more and offer less than this unit , close but no cigar smile

If you want a really great DAW plus FX and more these units are selling ( get them while there are some left ) for $ 400.00 shipped from MusiciansFriend -Sweerwater to name only two , on Craig's list or Ebay they are selling too . I just got a Samson largeC01 condenser mic that needs phantom power to do it's thing smile I'm excited to record !

Sincerely :

Hurricane Ramon
