Hi,

I always recommend a dedicated distortion pedal (especially if you play a lot of rock / metal) over a cheap multi-effects pedal. Benefits are countless.

No, and no.

I use the Ernie Ball 11-52's on my acoustic guitar. And, shredding basically means playing very fast. It doesn't matter if you 'shred' using a pick or your fingers.
