Topic: NFXD

i know, every time i get a new toy i have to rave about it? so....i saw what appeared to be an absolute bargain on amazon .... donner alpha cruncher, it has just 3 FX; echo/ reverb, chorus and distortion. it's made i guess for electric guitars and though i haven't used it that much yet on electric, it sounds great. so i thought i'd try it on my acoustics and yep, it also sounds terrific on them, love the chorus and adjustable echo/reverb.

just thought i'd mention it.

Ask not what Chordie can do for you, but what you can do for Chordie.

Re: NFXD

Add a hint of distortion to it,   just a squeeze of overdrive,.   It will really open your style up!

Re: NFXD

Hi Beamer....oh yes I intend to use the distortion and gain function to it's limit. But not on acoustic guitar! That bit of gain and overdrive is enough to get heard during a solo without changing amp settings. I like my acoustic clear with a little reverb and a nice chorus, and this beauty has that in spades.

Very nice, Phill ... you're in good company with the rest of us electric folk ... more effects are better than less effects! lol Congrats on your NFXD!

Re: NFXD

Looks and sounds  like a great piece of equipment !

I have no clue how to use one - but I'm sure it is really cool. smile

This is why I wish I lived near you guys - so I could hang out and see what you musicians really do.  Watching video and reading just doesn't make it for me.

Congrats Phill

Just give it try on the acoustic.  As I said, just a hint of OD.  Won't distort like full distortion.

I have my set up for the acoustic, but I can also punch my channel 1 with some OD an it sounds really good.

Phill
When it says "chorus" - what exactly does that mean ?
I am assuming it's not back up singers ! smile  smile

Re: NFXD

I love new software and effects but before I invest in them I try them out usually I find not much difference in what I can milk out of my Boss ME-50 if I work with the settings,  after I purchased my new Epiphone D-500 I ran it thru my Boss ME-50 and I got some amazing chorus and delay effects by just tweaking them along with the compression from what I hear  this effect works very effectively for you and that is all that matters.

Jim

I would like a chorus effect that works with my mic.

Topdown and I, along with those who remember lighting technician Roger from the first Zurfapalooza, heard a guy names "Anthony" at a venue, and Anthony used microphone chorus effect very well. It's not exaggerating to say he knocked it out of the park.

Re: NFXD

Over use of FX like chorus or phasing on vocals can get a bit tedious. Minimal use for effect is best. Like I have a vocal harmonizer, which works off the guitar chords, over use kills the effect of impact.

Jim, I can't explain what chorus sounds like except that it fills in the sound as does echo/reverb. You will hear it on lots of records especially C/W ballards.

Russ, I checked it out thoughrolly on YouTube before buying. I just wish I could play like those guys.

Beamer, I haven't had much chance to check everything out yet but I will give it a go and let you know my thoughts

Re: NFXD

Thanks Russ, but I think guitar playing is like a slimming disease, you feel over weight even if you're not, then you die! I don't think wanting to be a better player will kill me....I hope?

Hi Jim ...

I grinned when I saw your comment about having a bunch of back up singers in a box ... good one. big_smile A chorus effect basically makes your guitar sound like there are several guitars playing in unison. It will mirror what you play exactly, with just a very slight amount of delay alongside. This has the effect of "fattening" the individual notes a bit. Although Chorus can be used with a distorted sound, it really shines with a clean signal, and also sounds great with a bass guitar.

I hope this is useful ...

Re: NFXD

Gentleman - Thank you for the clarification !

Easybeat actually sent me a musical sample he put together for me.

Cool stuff.

Thanks

FOR A GREAT SOUND OF ANALOG CHORUS IS "COME AS YOU ARE" BY NIRVANA. THAT INTRO IS ALL ANALOG CHORUS.

Chorus and reverb on vox is great. Also for vox reverb delay/ chorus.
