Topic: Any Road Up

A few of days ago someone ( I think it was Peatle)  on this forum responded to something someone wrote - and used the phrase  " any road up".  It struck me hard - I wrote it down on a scrap of paper on my desk. I kept looking at it over the past couple days and thinking - there's gotta be a song there somewhere.   This morning I woke up at 4:45 and had a couple of the chorus lines in my head.  Picked up my guitar and started playing around.... this is what I came up with. I'm sure it will need a few tweaks smile

Any Road Up By Jim Kenyon

Verse 1

[G]Today is not enough ya’ know, and I [C]can’t count on yester[G]day

[G]Promises of what the future holds,[D]helps me to find my way

[G]Tonight, Tomorrow , or a month from now,[C]maybe even next [G]year

[G]I’m looking for a love to steal my heart, and [D]take me away from [G]here

.

Chorus

Oh [C]any road up, [C]any road up, [G]any road out of this lonely town

[C]any road up, [C]any road up, [G]any road that won’t let me down

[C] route 66 or the road less traveled, (yeah)[G] any road up, will do

[D]I’ll take any road up, long as I get there ,[C] any road toward a love that’s [G]true

.

[G]leaves are falling as the trees are turning [C]black against the [G] sky

[G]Dreaming of what love could be ,even [D] though I don’t know why

[G]Silence, strangers and empty spaces, are the [C]things I‘ve grown to [G]know

[G]now I’m searching for a love to save me, and[D] take me any road back [G]home

Yeah

[D]I’ll take any road up, long as I get there ,[C] any road toward a love that’s [G]true

yeah

[D]I’ll take any road up, long as I get there ,[C] any road toward a love that’s [G]true

Re: Any Road Up

Hi Jim. It was me, by the way. Any road up is a phrase I heard on TV on one of our rural soaps or even by George Formby, it's an exclamation as is "well I'll go to the back of our house!" It's nicer than swearing!

As for the song you've written, I have to say I love it. You've made the phrase your own by giving it another meaning. And I love the way the whole thing fits together.

Ask not what Chordie can do for you, but what you can do for Chordie.

Hi Jim. I've just run through your song a couple of times....oh dear! I loved your words....but with the chords you put on it the rhythm and tune I gave it woosh!!! Fabuloso!!! I hope to get a few moments tomorrow to do a scratch recording which I'll send you if it's okay.

Re: Any Road Up

Hey nice lyrics. I started playing around with it with a slow melody and chorus.

Yep, no probs, if it sounds as good out loud as it does in my mind it should be a cracker.

Re: Any Road Up

Masterful job once again, TIG ... I seem to hear this one being played in a rock-a-billy style, with a bit of "who gives a hoot" attitude in the vocal delivery. Your ability to paint pictures with words is a continual amazement to me ... many thanks!

Re: Any Road Up

Jim that has got country- rock or rock-a-billy written all over it. Phill with his polish and smooth delivery a perfect man to do your song. Excellent. I can't claim the phrase Any road up as one from me.  Phills part of the world  definetly has some wonderful sayings and phrases.
