Re: So who inspired you to play?

Well I always had wanted to play guitar as a way to express my song writing but i was never motivated to do so but then I heard the soulful sounds of SRV and B.B. King and was just inspired

Re: So who inspired you to play?

i would have to say oasis's Noel Gallagher inspired me to play

Re: So who inspired you to play?

I was actually first inspired to learn guitar when I was seven years old, and I saw the school classical guitar group practising for a concert. My dad was a drummer, and I had started playing drums with him, but after I heard the group play I was determined to play the guitar.

The person that inspired me to play well and work hard was Angus Young ^^. He's still my guitar-hero.

Re: So who inspired you to play?

I gotta say John whatisname from red hot chilli peppers. Also last year there was a school musical at my high school about the seventies and seeing Mitchel Everleigh stand out and solo to "long way to the top" was just magical.

Re: So who inspired you to play?

Eric Clapton is my inspiration he has made so many different changes in the music world

Re: So who inspired you to play?

Don't laugh, as he is by no means a guitar virtuoso, but I started playing guitar to accompany my singing inspired by Roy Orbison. Of course, when I realised there was more to playing than chords on the first three frets, my chief inspirations shifted a little. I would have to say my inspirations on lead playing are David Gilmour (in front by miles), Mark Knopfler and George Harrison.

Re: So who inspired you to play?

Hey twilliam - R.O. is a great inspiration, a true ground breaker. I dare say we wouldn't have many since him, if we didn't have him. (And thanks for bringing back this thread from the dead!)

That said, I gotta agree with mrFretty. Clapton has been a hero of mine forever.

Edited to add:

Thought twilliam might enjoy this R.O. video from 1965

Re: So who inspired you to play?

Billie joe armstrong and angus young

Re: So who inspired you to play?

My inspiration was Joe Satriani ... just loved how he could make the guitar do whatever he wanted ... almost like it was a piece of him and not some piece of equipment he was holding

Electric:  Gibson Les Paul Studio, Schecter Omen 6, PRS SE Custom
Acoustic:  Fender Talman, Yamaha
Amp:  Fender Super Champ XD/Line6 Spider III 75

Re: So who inspired you to play?

i was originally inspired because i thought it would get me laid if i could play some dave matthews songs when i started college(it did)
but the passion to push past simple strumming and create my own guitar voice came from mikey houser from widespread panic

i miss you mikey and i wish you were still creating-can't wait to finally meet you on the other side

Re: So who inspired you to play?

I would have to say that Mark Knopfler is my main inspiration. I just absolutely love the way he sounds. Steve Lukather is also in my top 5, along with all the other usual suspects (Hendrix, Clapton, BB King)

Re: So who inspired you to play?

I started taking sax lessons at 9 and I remember soloing with the school band on Midnight Cowboy at 11 years old. They wouldn't let me see the movie, but I could play the song smile I did learn lots of scales and how to improvise.

I started going to the Capital Theater in Passaic NJ in 1971-2 where I used to hang out by the back door and beg the stage hands to let me sneak in.   I saw a great string of players up close and personal: Leslie West w/ Mountain, Johnny Winter, Ronnie Montrose, Steve Hunter, Billy Gibbons, Dave Mason,  Robin Trower,  Carlos Santana, Lenny Kaye, Mick Ralphs with Mott the Hoople.   I saw the Who on the Quadrephenia tour at MSG before an English final exam and still got an A.  Steve Howe and Yes 5 or 6 times. Stones in '75, Eagles, CSNY and Zepplin in '75 and '77.  Living in mass transit distance of NYC was great.  I saw the Ramones at CBGB's (and a dozen other joints),  Blondie at Max's Kansas City and the Clash at Roseland? and Lou Reed at the the Palladium.

My main inspiration through all this was: "These guys probably get l**d a lot".
I was a horny teenager that beat it like it owed me money.

That's alright, I got my guitar

Re: So who inspired you to play?

Hello. This is my first post here. Anywoo..

When I was a Sophomore in HS. My friend started bringing his guitar to school sometimes. I thought it was really cool and all. Next year he started the school's guitar club and I would visit when I could. I got interested and I thought it could be easy even though I had no clue lol. I got to borrow my aunt's cheap acoustic. My church's music director helped me tune it and gave me a guitar book. I learned my first song, Ode To Joy. I eventually bought a beginner electric and I got to learn more with it. Oh and guitar isn't as easy as I thought XD. So I guess I was inspired by my friend.

I still use it with the same strings (they are wearing out bad!) I've been scared to change them because I worry I might not be about to get the bridge done right and I hear rumors of guitar necks snapping (!!!). It's a "Starcaster by Fender". Until I get a job and the money, I'll change my guitar.

I got into guitar a bit later then others(16) probably, but it's never too late I guess.
