I wrote this using most of the words Jan posted in SOM

lonesome heart and empty sky By Jim Kenyon

Verse 1:

[D] He was standing by the road, a [G] cigarette in his [D]hand

[D] Suitcase laying by his feet, he’d be[G]come a traveling [D]man

[D] had no wife, no children, just a [G]drifter blowin' in the [D]breeze

A [D] life without [G] meaning, [C] fading like autumn [D]leaves

just [C] like fading autumn [D]leaves

Verse 2:

.

[D] She was a sweet humble girl, with[G] silky golden [D]hair

[D] A smile that could take away [G] all his worldly [D]cares

[D] But when she left this world, [G] seemed time stood [D] still

and [D] as he held her [G] tremblin' hand, the [C] coldness broke his [D]will

yeah, the [C] coldness broke his [D]will

.

________________________________________

Chorus (Stronger Strumming)

[D ] So he pours rotgut whiskey, as his [C] anger begins to grow

Always [G] tryin’ to drown those memories and [D]what he can't let go.

[D] He walks every lonely road where no [C] one hears him cry

There’s [G] just the ache of a lonesome heart [D]andan empty sky

[C] just the ache of a lonesome heart [D] and an empty sky

Verse 3:

.

[D ] Buried her in April, but he [G] couldn’t say good[D]bye

[D ] On his knees he prayed to have [G] God give an answer [D]why

[D ] had anger burning up his heart, yet [G] he felt so damn [D] cold

He [D] he shook his head [G] and walked away [C] to the open [D]road

he [C]took to the open [D] road

.

Verse 4:

.

[D] No home, no peace, no place, to [G]ever to settle [D]down

[D]Just streets and people with no names through [G] every lousy [D] town

[D] Livin’ in midnight bars and [G]cheap motel rooms all [D]alone

He [D] knows it’s not [G] possible to [C] fix his heart of [D]stone

no he [C]can't fix his heart of [D]stone

Chorus (Stronger Strumming)

[D] So he pours rotgut whiskey, as his [C] anger begins to show

Always [G] tryin’ to drown those memories and [D]what he can't let go.

[D] He walks every lonely road where no [C] one hears him cry

There’s [G] just the ache of a lonesome heart [D]and an empty sky

[C] just the ache of a lonesome heart [D]and an empty sky

.

Outgo

[D] He walks every lonely road where no one [C] hears him cry

[G] just the ache of alonesome heart and [D] empty sky

.

[C] just the ache of a lonesome heart [D] and an empty sky

Great  lyrics    Jim   but  I  havent  found  the   vibe   for  this  yet  , tried     playing  it  a  couple  of  ways    so  far  a    finger  style  has   worked  best .

Re: lonely heart and empty sky newsong

Graham, yeah I  changed the chords and tweaked the lyrics- it sounds much better  in my head now.    I agree - it just wasn't  quite right  there.

I really like the sound now with these chords - very southern country rock to it

After playing through it, I think I might delete the bridge as it makes too long.
Thanks for your input !
Jim
