Topic: A Mothers Tears

Dm                   Am

Written down in history
           G                   D
Dark pages there for all to see
        C            D
And on into eternity

Dm                     Am
In our world we build walls high
     C                         D
So we can't hear the others cry
         C                   G
We draw a line and put up boarders
C                         D
Point our guns and wait for orders

F                          Dm
A fathers pride a mothers joy
   Am                      G
Into this world they bring a boy
               C                      G                       D
They're happier than they ever could have known

F                                   Dm
He's taught to read he's taught to write
              Am                         G
Taught good from bad and wrong from right
         C                          G                    D
And soon that young boy to a man has grown

Dm                            Am
When those in power demand of you
          G                              D
What they themselves could never do
   C                G                       D
Into a far off land that soldiers flown

E
They'll tell you when to run
Bm
They'll tell you when to stop
E                                          Bm
Tell you when to stand up and tell you when to drop
  D                                  A
They'll teach you how to shoot to kill
             G                 D
Without ever asking why
            C                      G                     D
They'll teach you how to live and how to die

Dm                         Am
Then driven by the battles roar
            G                             D
Till his gun falls silent to the floor
        C                                 G
His mothers tears we cannot see
        C                                       D
They must bring him home with dignity

F                                Dm
But when the sermons over
Am                                        G
And the prayers have all been said
C                    G
He may be a hero
       C                 G           Fmaj7
But he'll still be just as dead

F                       Dm
He was proud to do what's right
               Am                        G
When he heard his country calling
        C                           G
But somewhere in her darkest night
Cmaj7 C                    Fmaj7
  A mothers tears are falling

Re: A Mothers Tears

Well done keepitreal. I hope a recording is in the near future. Your song made me think of Donovan song from many years ago called Universal Soldier.

Live in the "now" - a contentment of the moment - the past is gone - the future doesn't exist - all we ever really have is now and it's always "now".

Re: A Mothers Tears

Bluejeep. Thank you for your comments. I remember Universal Soldier very well, in fact it was the first song I learned on the guitar back in my petulant anti everything youth. The playing of that song often resulted in me being escorted from the premises.
