Topic: 4th Ukulele Journey Video::Original Song::Free

Hi All, I just finished and uploaded my 4th uke video--a new, original song called Free.  I did a little bit different here and just recorded on my tablet instead of getting out all my gear!! You'll definitely be able to tell but I thought it would be good to challenge myself to try and play all the way through in one-take instead of stopping and starting ... warts and all---live performance style!! smile smile  Still working at it... thankfully... (and a bit shocked too as I tend to be a quitter at times!  smile smile 10 days now!)

I hope you enjoy it!! smile

Great job, Kim! And I have to say emphatically, that I love your philosophy about music not just being for the elite, but something for everyone to enjoy. Well said!

Kim

Love your attitude and willingness to learn something difficult. What is shining like a beacon however is your magnificent voice.  Thanks so much for sharing.

That's a fantastic song!  You should put it up in the songwriting section with lyrics and chords played.  I'd love to try it out on the guitar.  smile  What a VOICE too!  It's obvious that you're feeling a lot more comfortable with the Uke, just by how your voice sounds.  You're feeling more confident in what your hands are doing to be able to concentrate more on the singing than in previous videos.  That's an awesome feeling isn't it?  Keep going!  I think you had a good comment there on YT as well, to work on a strumming pattern for the slower parts of the song.  I'd probably do something like a DDUUDU (that's down down up up down up) pattern in there myself.  If that makes NO SENSE, ask!  There's a few fella's here (Roger being one) that teach and can explain strumming patterns really well.

Just want to say it again, AWESOME! The playing is coming along very nicely (what you've done with the Uke would take the average person a few months with guitar) and your voice is fantabuous!

Art and beauty are in the eyes of the beholder.
What constitutes excellent music is in the ears of the listener.

Hi Tenement--thank you for your kindness and encouragement!!  I love it when highly skilled and talented musicians also have the same philosophy--THOSE are the ones I usually end up listening to the most!! smile  Appreciate the words!!  smile

Hi Jim, you are so very kind! I'm most comfortable with vocals, for sure.  I've been doing online music collaboration for a couple of years where international drummers, bassists, strings, vocalists, etc. will come and audition for a project manager's beginning  track.  Once everything is said and done... the beginning idea becomes a full song//backing track.  If my audition gets accepted then I have the privilege of listening to a full song develop which is quite amazing to me.   smile

Oh my goodness!! YOU sing the song--that would be awesome!! I'll definitely get the music//chords up!!  I'll try and do that either tonight or tomorrow.  And THANK YOU THANK YOU for the strumming pattern advice. I definitely want to try that out!! I know that I need to really work on that part!!  The guy who commented is a very nice German guy who has offered to teach me a song in German--haaha!!  Me... singing German!? haaha! The next frontier!! smile

I'll get those chords up... It would be a TRUE THRILL for me to hear your beautiful and strong vocals sing one of my songs!! smile  Chat soon! smile
