"From a Zero to a Hero" original song by Jim Jenkins

I got a webcam this week so I decided to give this a quick video record.  No editing, just me playing and singing at my computer.

I read about a young man who was a troubled youth and wanted out of the small town he grew up in.  This song is about wanting something, not sure what you want and getting more than you were prepared for.  Most of us have moments where we want and haven't thought out our wishes.

From a Zero to a Hero

by Jim Jenkins

Al[G]ways in trouble, barely m[Am]ade it though school
a w[C]ild child who caused headaches, br[D]oke all the ru[G]les.
H[G]e wanted to go places, things he wa[Am]nted to see
O[C]ut of our sm[D]all town’s where he wa[C]nted to b[G]e

B[G]e careful what you ask for as I[C]t may come tr[G]ue
wh[Em]en you’re not sure what y[Am]ou want to d[D]o
Y[G]ou might want something but d[C]on’t really kn[G]ow
H[G]ow it will hap[D]pen or ho[C]w it will g[G]o.

Ne[G]eding money to leave, no jo[Am]bs could be found
H[C]e asked his Uncle to help him g[D]et out of to[G]wn
a[G]nd the young wild boy quickly b[Am]ecame a man
when he j[C]oined the A[D]rmy of h[C]is Uncle S[G]am

H[G]e saw some of the world and so[Am]me of it’s beauty
Wh[C]ere he was assigned for his t[D]our of d[G]uty
H[G]e never thought about places li[Am]ke this before
Wh[C]en he was se[D]nt to a pla[C]ce with a w[G]ar

B[G]e careful what you ask for as I[C]t may come tr[G]ue
wh[Em]en you’re not sure what y[Am]ou want to d[D]o
Y[G]ou might want something but d[C]on’t really kn[G]ow
H[G]ow it will hap[D]pen or ho[C]w it will g[G]o.

H[G]e wanted to be something and h[Am]e found a way
His fa[C]milies heartaches began and e[D]nded one d[G]ay
Wh[G]en his act of courage in a f[Am]ar away place
not o[C]nly saved li[D]ves, it he[C]lped him save fa[G]ce

A b[G]oy that was chased round this to[Am]wn so often
ca[C]me home a man in a fl[D]ag covered cof[G]fin
th[G]ere's aparade to honor him on Ma[Am]in Street today
From a z[C]ero to a he[D]ro in on[C]ly one d[G]ay

B[G]e careful what you ask for as I[C]t may come tr[G]ue
wh[Em]en you’re not sure what y[Am]ou want to d[D]o
Y[G]ou might want something but d[C]on’t really kn[G]ow
H[G]ow it will hap[D]pen or ho[C]w it will g[G]o.

H[G]e wanted something but d[C]idn't really kn[G]ow
H[G]ow it would hap[D]pen or ho[C]w it would g[G]o.
He[G]s back home for[D]ever  i[C]n our small to[G]wn

Sad but true story song for too many young Americans. Sorry he lost his life, but I'm glad he turned his life around. Makes you wonder what he would have done if he had made it back home alive. I believe he would have been a better citizen, but I guess we'll never know for sure. Well written song Jim.

Jets: Thanks for the reply!  Sometimes a news story or something I have read just prompts me to say that should be in some lyrics.  Still learning, but having agreat time with all of this.   Dino, Unlike the great guy Benson Pete, I have not gravitated to You Tube.  I think it has been enough so far to inflict my playing and singing on the world without having them have to stare at my mug as well.  There is a link to a soundclick audio file if you missed it.  Thanks for checking in.

Re: "From a Zero to a Hero" original song by Jim Jenkins

thanks Joe and Daddycool, I am having a lot of fun with this music stuff.  I have met some great folks here on Chordie that allow me to test the waters in ways I never dreamed I would when I started this whole thing a couple of years ago.    Your comments are appreciated.
