Autolux is an American band from Los Angeles, Ca. comprised of Eugene Goreshter (lead vocals, bass), Greg Edwards (guitar, vocals), and Carla Azar (drums, vocals). Although classified as a rock band, their music is deeply influenced by a variety of styles.
They are signed to DMZ/Epic in the U.S. and Full Time Hobby in the UK.
Autolux formed in 2000 in Los Angeles. Goreshter and Azar met while scoring Nobel Prize winner Dario Fo's play Accidental Death of an Anarchist. Azar met Edwards when her former band, Ednaswap, toured with Edwards' former band Failure. In August of 2000, Autolux made their debut, playing two shows at the Silverlake Lounge. On March 1st, 2001, the band released a self-produced EP entitled Demonstration. It contained five songs recorded on an 8 track in their rehearsal space.
Autolux signed with DMZ, a label created by legendary producer T-Bone Burnett and the Coen Brothers. Burnett was a friend of Azar's, she having played for him in the past. Impressed with band's live show, he approached them after a show and said that he would start his own label and sign them.
