"Daniel Dale Johnston" (b. January 22, 1961 in Sacramento, California) is a prolific American singer, songwriter and artist. Johnston, who suffers from bipolar disorderhttp://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/ent/3778930.html and often writes surreal songs about his hallucinations and mood swings, has been classified as an outsider musician. He currently lives in Waller, Texas.
His songs are typically painfully direct, and often display a disturbing blend of childlike naïvete with darker, "spooky" themes. Johnston was born in Sacramento, California and grew up in rural West Virginia.
