Dishwalla is a post-grunge alternative rock band from Santa Barbara, California. They are made up of band members Jim Wood (keyboards), Rodney Browning Cravens (guitar master), J.R. Richards (vocals, guitar, and keyboards), Pete 'Cash' Maloney (drums and general percussive energy), and Scot Alexander (bass). George Pendergast played drums for the band until 1998; he was replaced by Pete Maloney. The band's name comes from an Indian term for a person who uses illegal equipment to descramble a satellite signal and share it with their neighborhood.
Dishwalla became popular in 1996 due to their hit single "Counting Blue Cars," from their album Pet Your Friends. They are considered by some to be a one-hit wonder because of the relatively huge success of this single compared to later works by the band. However, with each successive concert appearance and album release, Dishwalla has proven to still have a considerable fan following.
