Harold Faltermeyer

"Harold Faltermeyer" (born October 5, 1952 in Munich) is a German musician, composer, and record producer.

His best known pieces are film music for ''The Running Man'' and the "Axel F" electronic piece for ''Beverly Hills Cop''. The tune is very recognizable, and has been covered by numerous artists. It was recorded using three instruments: a Roland Jupiter-8, a Roland JX-3P and a Yamaha DX7.

After contributing as a session keyboardist for producer/composer Giorgio Moroder, Faltermeyer captured the zeitgeist of 1980s synth-pop, arranging, producing, and playing on albums and singles by international pop stars Laura Branigan, Jennifer Rush, Alexis, and others.

He has won two Grammy Awards: the first in 1986 for Best Album of original score written for a motion picture or television special, as a co-writer of the ''Beverly Hills Cop'' soundtrack; and the second in 1987 for Best Pop Instrumental Performance with guitarist Steve Stevens for "''Top Gun'' Anthem" from the soundtrack to ''Top Gun''. He and Stevens were also involved in producing other music for ''Top Gun''.

Faltermeyer also recorded an LP called ''Harold F''.
