The members of his band have changed in the past year. Among others, he has been accompanied by Aben Eubanks on guitar, keys and vocals, John Thomasson on bass, and Jason McKenzie? on drums. Before 2005 he was often accompanied by cellist Matt Fish.

Matt has been a resident of San Francisco for the past eight years. Before that, he attended Pitzer College in Claremont, California where he met long time collaborator Mark Weinberg (of the bands Crumb and Gratitude).

Matt Nathanson's cover of "Laid" by Madchester band James was featured on the American Wedding soundtrack.
