"Tryo" is an French "unplugged" reggae band, popular in Europe, consisting of 3 French guitarists, a Latin American percussionist, and a producer.
Tryo have been wildy popular throughout France especially due to their politically charged lyrics, also showing a fun side with a range of humorous songs, especially true in their live performances.
Their stance is left wing, and criticize many French leaders (such as Charles Pasqua, named in corruption scandals concerning suburban low cost housing or HLM) and World leaders (George Bush) in their music. The band also have a 'tolerant' view on cannabis, most obviously demonstrated by 'La Main Verte' from the 'Mamagubida' album.
The drug references have been notably toned down in their later albums. This, along with others factors such as fewer political references and their popularity amongst a younger French crowd, have led some fans to accuse Tryo of becoming more commercial as they progress.
They have sold more than 900,000 albums worldwide and celebrated their 10 year anniversary in 2006, followed by a nationwide tour.
Christophe Mali released a solo album 'Je vous emmêne' in April 2006.
