She won the competition!  smile  Amazing kid!  I didn't find anything new... crazy busy work lately, talking on the phone and all.  So I haven't been able to just listen to music while working and find all these gems.  When I get done with work, I close the laptop lid with such force and try not to look at the computer again until the next work our strikes!  ha ha!  Will hopefully be off the phones soon and back to my normal/normal.  It can't come quick enough!

It's possible also that the song you've found may not have been provided in chopro, in which case the chord charts and chords listed above the words will not show. That is determined on where the songs are hosted, and what format they are in.  For example, this one:  http://www.chordie.com/chord.pere/getso … e.2.chopro  should show the chords above words as well as the chord diagrams.  If you can't see those, then as Doug said, it may be a matter of tweaking your preferences when signed in!  smile  Let us know how we can help!

Jim, you get the credit for such moving lyrics.  Without your imagery, there's no way I could have sang it in a way that would give it justice.  The video you've added to my recording really pulls that lyrical imagery out.  I'm so very sorry to hear about your daughter's mother in law.  I do hope those angels are indeed there watching over each of her loved ones, as well as herself.  May her final days be filled with the love of family and peace.  Or better yet, a miracle.  Hugs to all.

The only thing I can think is that you might be stuck in the "log in" loop.  If that's the case (you try to add a song and it asks to you sign in, but you already signed in.... you sign in again, try to add the song... and then go through the whole process again), I suggest clearing our your cookies and then try visiting the site again.  Alternately, you may want to try using a different browser.  I suggest Mozilla Firefox or Google Chrome.  They are both free to download.  smile  Let us know if you're still having issues please.  We'd love to help!  We'll just need more info on what's going on.

The "add to songbook" problems thread Roger mentioned has instructions for clearing cookies, cache, as well as ensuring your system's java is up to date.  Those are the three main troubleshooting steps that will generally fix issues with songbooks! smile

Scott, that is AWESOME!  I'm so glad the school the kids are at offers something like that for your kids.  Just wonderful.  That kind of stuff sure makes a difficult move easier.  smile

I've been neglecting you all for a while... and today is not Thursday!  Ahhhh!  Alas, the moment has encouraged me to share.

If you're not in the US, it's entirely possible you haven't heard yet of Grace VanderWaal.  However, if you are in the US and you don't watch TV or go on the internet a lot you may not have heard of her either.  I suppose.  This little girl is only 12 - and is AMAZING!  She's inspired my own 11 year old to write songs and learn the Uke.  In fact... my daughter is too writing a song for her sister right now, because of Grace's song here:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g2JFo_Q-0NA

Enjoy.  Get goosebumps.  She's insanely amazing.

As I've said elsewhere - I learned to play with the intent on strumming next to a campfire.  That said, I have played around with fingerpicking and when I do have my classical in hand, I tend to play out the notes a little more like a "piano" like TF has said (those notes that come automatically that is and seem to fit).  I can read sheet music, but I haven't forced myself to learn the notes on a guitar yet.  I realize it will be very easy if I just try.  I'm waiting for more inspiration and a push/shove to just do it.  It's coming soon... LOL!

I've gotten my classical back recently.  It's just a cheap beginner Ibanez, but I sure did miss it!  I restrung it Saturday.  Very messy with my ties as I hadn't done it in over a year (possibly two)!  I had forgotten how nice it is to play and how different the sound and fretting is to my very picky Martin Steel string.  wink  While my Martin loves to be picked, the classical was MADE to be picked!  big_smile  That's obvious of course, but far more so when I pick it up and do it.

OK, I finally made it through all the submissions!  Thank you everyone, as it made me smile on this gloomy Saturday... AND inspired me to get the guitar out after the long week!  I've commented on all the soundclouds and youtube pages provided since my earlier post in the thread!

I've been busy and haven't listened to ALL the recordings on here yet, but was reading through and saw my name... so of course I HAD to listen to this one.  I laughed out loud along with you.  Jim heard me from the other room asking what the heck I was laughing over.  So I played it for him.  HE laughed out loud too, and I couldn't help but to laugh again!  AWESOME!  Yes, yes, yes!  Silly bold children for the win!  Ha!

Hmmm... Bobcat Goldthwait grew up nearby where I did.  Had his parents not put him in the local Catholic School, he would have gone to the same public High School I graduated from.  I know people that know his family.  Big deal right?  ha ha!

Frank Baum, who wrote the Wizard of Oz was from a tiny town nearby.  They have an "Oz Fest" every year and paint the sidewalks yellow.  I don't think there's any munchkins still alive, but they used to come to the parade.  It's a tiny junky little town.  LOL!  The tourists flock in though.

Carol Baldwin lives nearby. When my mom worked as a waitress, she came into one of the restaurants often and my mother waited on her.  When one of her sons was in town, the other waitresses would fight over who got to wait on the table.  I guess Carol was a pretty cranky picky customer, so they didn't fight over waiting on her when she was alone.

Dick Clark went to Syracuse University.  My grandpa used to tell a story about meeting him once on a passenger train years ago.  smile

Adrien Brody actually DOES live VERY close.  Although, I don't know how many people really have a clue who he is!  smile  He bought a "castle" nearby my current home, renovated it, and made a documentary about "his life during renovation".  I've seen some bits and pieces of the documentary.  Seems he did a bunch of the work on the castle himself and learned how to be a "normal" human rather than "just" a star.  Mekidsdad met him briefly while hanging out at a friends house.  Seemed like a normal guy, nothing exciting, nice enough.  The other guys were acting like they were something special because they were hanging out with Brody.

From a local's view point - Meh - We used to be able to see the castle from the road (and at one point in time before he bought it, it was open to the public as a fun and safe place for little kids to go for Halloween).  It conjured up ideas of fairy tales for little kids (as there aren't many castles in America - especially in the rural "never heard of it" areas, even though this one wasn't much of a castle, it was something different).  We can't see ANYTHING from the road now.  He's got a fence - a BIG fence all the way around the property and has planted enough foliage to block the view from the road.  I don't blame him, if I were rich I'd do the same.  But, trying to explain to the kids that there's a castle back there and they have no way to see it?  I thought castles were meant for everyone to view their awesomeness?  I imagine the grounds are quite beautiful.  Here's the OLD history of the place:  https://stonebarncastle.me/  - It was once upon a time popular enough that there's a building called the "Stone Barn Gatehouse", and used to be a place called the "Stone Barn Motel" that may parents owned at one point (now renamed).

Glad to hear you're all safe!  There was a pretty decent sized tremor nearby us a few years back, I recall feeling the house shake a little and wondering if I was imagining things.  That's about as close as I ever want to be to an earthquake!  The kids and I have learned about them in our school work and watched some video footage of some big massive ones.  Mother Nature can be so cruel sometimes.

The enthusiasm here is awesome!  Keep it up!  Nice covers by all.  Each one sounds completely different, and I think that's pretty gosh darn awesomely cool!  smile

Ok, Ok... we've picked names out of the hat for a few months, but we want to keep things FRESH and keep you on your TOES!

This month, we are NOT taking names.  Nope, we're going back to song suggestions!  So, is there a song that you would like to hear everyone try to cover?  One you've been dying to try out and hear everyone's take on it?  Perhaps you've written an original, placed chords up on Chordie, but haven't YET recorded it and would like everyone to give it a go?

This is the place to cast your vote, and place your song suggestion for the featured song of the month for October 2016!

Once we have enough suggestions for next month, the section moderators will take a vote and create a new post so you can get practicing and recording!  If you see a suggestion someone else has made and you REALLY LIKE IT, say so!

We do ask that you WAIT until OCTOBER 1st to post the link to your FSOTM cover!  Moderation will create a new thread, you can then post your version there!  This helps keep the forum organized, as this forum is very likely to get very full over the next few years!  We'd like to keep everything organized from the start to make it easier to find song recordings should someone wish to go back to find them down the road!  THANK YOU for your co-operation!

So, have at it!  Let us know what song you'd like to hear next!  Perhaps you've got more of a GENRE you'd like to hear covered, and any song from that genre would do - if so, that's awesome, but PLEASE go ahead and state that and give us an idea with a song suggestion to go along with it  smile  ALSO, we ARE listening!  If you have suggestions on how we can go about choosing the next song for the next month, add that too (along with your song suggestion).

Oh Shoot!  I can't merge topics together, I can only pull them out of an existing topic and into a new one... so on that note, I'll just PLOP another quote from the "help us pick the FSOTM" thread over here from UJB!

Cool!!

I happen to have my version of that already recorded. Actually I have several. It's part of my regular rotation. This is from last summer when I introduced it to Scott.

Hey Easybeat!  It's NOT September yet!  tongue  That's why you didn't see a thread to post in, I see you made your own. LOL!
To keep the forums more organized, I'm going to remove your separate thread though, and everyone can see your link here in my quote!  smile

First of all, a special thanks to Dino and Zurf for stepping up so quickly with your Featured Song Choices!  Secondly, it looks like easybeat and UJB jumped the gun - so I'll be moving those posts into this thread!

As you can tell by the title, the Featured Song(s) of the Month have been chosen, so with out further ado...

The City of New Orleans was chosen by Dino and dedicated to NELA and others affected by the recent weather issues in that area

From Wikipedia:  ""City of New Orleans" is a folk song written by Steve Goodman (and first recorded for Goodman's self-titled 1971 album), describing a train ride from Chicago to New Orleans on the Illinois Central Railroad's City of New Orleans in bittersweet and nostalgic terms.
Goodman got the idea while traveling on the Illinois Central line for a visit to his wife's family. The song has been recorded by numerous artists both in the US and Europe."

Johnny Cash:  http://www.chordie.com/chord.pere/www.g … 58000.html
And here's an Arlo Guthrie recording:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TvMS_ykiLiQ

Don't Think Twice, It's Alright was chosen by Zurf

From Wikipedia:  ""Don't Think Twice, It's All Right" is a song written by Bob Dylan in 1962, recorded on November 14 that year, and released on the 1963 album The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan and as a single..... Johnny Cash adapted portions of the song into his own single "Understand Your Man".... The Four Seasons released a cover of the song as a single in 1965 (with the title "Don't Think Twice") under the pseudonym The Wonder Who? Their "joke" version reached the #12 position on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, and eventually sold one million copies."

Here's Jonny's Understand your man:  http://www.chordie.com/chord.pere/www.g … 77742.html
And here's a video/recording of Dylan himself with the amazing Eric Clapton playing the song:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Ar7C6_L3Fg
As with many of Dylan's songs, Peter Paul and Mary brought their special harmonies to it as wel: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B61Dud_641g

Try one, try them both!  Make a recording or a video, and share the link as a reply to this topic below!

Ready?  Set?  GO!

THE WINNERS ARE:

DINO
ZURF

Post here - or send out an email with the SONG you have each chosen to be September's Featured Song of the Month!

(again, I'm late... boo me... yay you winners!)

Names are going into the hat and will be chosen soon!  LAST CHANCE to get your name in!  Post here!

Hmmmm.... not much action going on in here!  Where are all those recordings?

Bill and Dondra, we would have loved to have ya here too!

Turns out we are pulling both girls out of school after all.  The bigger little one convinced us, after harassing for a whole year, that she'd like to be homeschooled along with her sister.  So, it turns out that travel time just got a LITTLE easier.  Of course, Jim's job still holds him back from ditching the house for an RV. I can work anywhere there's an internet connection myself.  wink

A few folks asked about a time frame for next year.  I'll have to work that out more between UJB (because he does a FALL get together - Paul may want to contact him about possibly coming to THAT one!!) and find out if DE and Jen are serious about hosting next year.  As the summer is closing out here - I'm reminded of why I hate the end of summer so much in NY (flying ants, difficult to get the pool warmed up, etc), although I DO LOVE FALL... so maybe a few weeks later than today next year is doable - if it's not too close to UJB's gathering!  smile

Eyup me duck.  -- Roger told me that one, I am still lost!  LOL!

BGD - I've tried the "not your father's rootbeer" - it wasn't terrible, but I wouldn't buy it on purpose LOL!  I'd rather Jack n Coke.  wink

Another saying,
"not the sharpest tack in the box"

I can think of more, but those coming to mind this morning are not appropriate for Chordie. wink
