No.  There are no standards on this.  When using chord charts, you need to already kind of know the song.  Also, many times the letter shows up not in quite the right place.  You have to figure that out more or less by feel too.

Oh dear.  I'm very sorry to hear of your bad news.  May she rest in peace, and may you also be granted some peace (but stick around a while please).

I sure miss Bo and Cathy.  I don't think there are two kinder people on the planet than those two.  Bo's the reason I play guitar.

Black Water
Proud Mary
The River Knows Your Name (John Hiatt or John Prine, I think Hiatt)
A few million old folk songs about drowning or shooting your woman down by the river
Down By The Riverside
Your whole first album (with my favorites being The Paddle and River Morning)

I'll jump back with more suggestions as I think of them.

It's all about how dedicated you are.

All you need do is ask.  I'll be happy to pray for you.  If it's any encouragement, my father had kidney cancer pop up around 1996 just before his retirement.  They took his kidney, he took his meds, and even though that was his third bout with cancer he's been healthy since.  He's now a strong, busy, and happy 80 year old man in better spirits and health than me.

Regarding the 17 acres - Electric isn't needed for camping, but potties are.  That can be resolved with port-a-johns.  Don't discount that 17 acres so quickly.

I was also thinking about Pennsyltucky this year.

You are a lucky chappy, Christmas notwithstanding.  Congratulations all around.

If I was that dude, I'd have hightailed it to Florida and got drunk on cheap whiskey in a fishing bar until the idea of a 24 mile first step had passed.

With the shorter days and colder nights descending upon us, I am already thinking of long evenings along a river or creek, campfires burning, and friends picking songs, the pfffffft of a can opening.

Identify yourself and speak up if this sounds like fun to you.

I am thinking of a long weekend at a tenting campground nearby fishing.  There are many.  I'm hoping also to find a spot where we would be able to be a bit secluded and not worry over-much about quiet hours.  Dirty Ed doesn't even get properly warmed up until about 2AM.

1. Identify yourself if you're interested and think there's half a chance you might come. (no commitments at this point)
2. Identify your general location.  Portion of a state is good enough (Eastern NC, Northern VA, Central NY, etc.).
3. Identify the best month.  I'm leaning towards the second half of June but things could wind up being any time in the summer.

I'm making no promises to anyone.  This may happen, it may not.  If it happens, it will happen at my convenience first, with other considerations coming in second.  Sorry to be blunt about that, but I've done this sort of thing before and folks get kind of crazy with thinking every request is a demand.  I'm open to requests to make things more convenient and comfortable for others, but at some point I have to make decisions and stick to them.  It would be nice if I can get this nailed down by the end of December as some folks have to put in their leave requests at the beginning of the year.

It was neat to see what I had put in and are still there.  For example, the nose flute.  Now, how can you see a nose flute at the music store and not put it into something like this?  It's just not possible.

There is absolutely no chance of it.

Checking and cleaning the connections and reinstalling the program have relieved the computer connection problem.  There was an issue with the transmission with a damaged seal that needed repair by a mechanic.  The mechanic picked up a bunch of wear on the steering and suspension, but not abnormally high for a vehicle with the miles and stress this one has had.  They're all within tolerance so I'm not going to have those fixed yet.

Action is how high the strings are.  The distance is measured between the strings and the fret board.  Set up refers to a lot of things, but mostly to getting the action set to a comfortable level while still keeping in tune as you play all the way up the fret board.  There are a lot of videos on Youtube to tell you how to do it, but you're probably better off getting a professional to do it to your guitar if you aren't familiar with guitar tech kinds of stuff.

Also Alison, if you have arthritis in your hands, as have I, try working some scales or warmup exercises before you play. There are a slew of them on Youtube.   I also keep a tube of Ben Gay right handy.

Alvee took all the bourbon and chocolate coated peanuts out of it.  Of course, they were put in there specifically for him, but still!

You're learning something new.  I don't know that one is easier than the other for everybody.  I've never caught the hang of an electric.  The notes are the same, but the skills are a little different.  I'd say as far as ease, it's probably a six of one, half dozen of the other sort of thing.  A lot of electric players play more barre chords than acoustic players.

One thing that I find is that acoustic players are kinder, smarter, and better looking.  :-)

Acoustic strings will be better.  That's an acoustic guitar with electronics to amplify the sound.  It's not the same thing as an electric guitar.

I'd recommend playing around with some different thicknesses and materials if you can.  My local shop has a discount bin.  I've also played around with some of the brand strings.  I've found that my Yamaha sounds best with D'Addorio Silk and Steel strings, my Guild sounds best with Elixir nano coated, and I'm still messing around with my Breedlove but I have found that it likes slightly thicker strings than my other guitars.

Good luck.  Have fun.  Play hard.
