ah council workers, they're still no better.

amen corner had a song on their (i think) first LP about "(someone) the jobsworth" who kept telling people "it's more than my jobs worth" which is a cop out of course. i've known a few sadly.

do you perform for yourself or an audience? if your a cover band then it matters. if your playing as a performer (as i do) then you should put your own stamp on it. if your just playing to entertain yourself....play it as it will make you happy.

I worked for many years in the same job until they decided to close the factory then flattened the site ASAP. I was 58 at the time.

I really enjoyed my job and I fully intended to work there till I was 65, not to be. It was difficult getting another job and when I did I hated it, it ruined my back and I now need a knee replacement.

As you must be aware, the UK government recently sold off the Royal Mail, so that usually means redundancies, then re-employment at minimum wage and part time working. Although having said that, my ex-son in law is a post man and he started as a part timer and is now full time, so there's always a chance.

Our Secret.              Phill Williams. 7th January 2014.

I held out my hand when my mind set out screaming.
I don't ask for help `till I'm just about drowning.
I hate to feel weak, I am strong, I have courage.
Don't judge me, I beg, but my hand needs your holding.

They call me “aloof” for I don't need they're gossip.
They make up such lies and they think they are prophets.
They put people down, make them look fools and cretins.
They don't know I can see that they are the idiots.

Hold my hand, now. Hold my heart in your aura.
Hold my breath, shallow. Hold my thoughts in your manner.
Hold me, protect me. My life is your ward.
As you are my lover, my friend, and my sword.

I will protect you as you need protecting.
As I need support, give me all never ending.
I hold out my hand knowing you will receive it.
And there lies the secret. Discreet... yet, our secret.

i call it hitting the pitch, while the intro is playing turn away from the mic and hum or whatever sound you feel most comfortable making. when you feel happy that you're in key, go for it.

of course it's always advisable to sing in your own comfy key. when i'm rehearsing a new song, i'll sing unaccompanied at full boar and try notes till i find the right key then just transpose the chords from the copy.

it can be a bit naughty if you have to learn a solo in Ab, i hate Ab!

i've had many nicknames over the years, some of which can be repeated.

i used to work in a steel stock holders, so i became "rusty steel"

i worked most recently in a tinning factory, so i became known as the "tin man" isnt everyone?

hi gjimmy17.

it's actually in Db and a 3 chord trick (Db-Gb-Db-Ab) if you have trouble with barre chords, i suggest you use a capo on the 4th frett and play A shaped chords. alternatively capo on the 1st frett and play C shaped chords.

Hi guys, may I offer; a larger amp (the 75watt) would be more serviceable as you could play it at larger gigs, whereas the smaller might be good at smaller halls, it might just get "lost" at a larger venus. Ergo; size does matter, you can always turn a more powerful amp down....

any samples? just checking.

I also have the Boss ME50, all I can say is that it's a nice piece of kit. For stage use I just use a little reverb, echo and chorus. Fuzz/distortion as and when required, mainly to get a volume boost for solo's.

hi rog, norm, love the pic but was it not recorded for posterity?

That's Swansea Wales UK.

I'm sorry for the confusion I know "fag" might mean something different in the US, but it means cigarette here as in;
"While you've a Lucifer to light your FAG, smile boy that's the style" which is a war time song, I'm not sure if it's the 1st or 2nd world war. And apparently "Lucifers" were matches.

I live just 30 minutes from Swansea depending on traffic, rush hour can take an hour and a half too!

i did a gig in swansea in a pub that was crammed to the rafters, i think it was the landlords birthday. this was before the smoking ban, but as you say; the air was opaque with fag smoke. after a while my voice began to crack (i thought i'd reached puberty at last!) in a while i could hardly hit a note. then the bouncer (yes a bouncer) opened the door to let someone out and the fresh air rushed in and like magic my voice returned.

the smoking ban is a two edged sword, we get clean air to breathe but the gaspers can't smoke so they buy booze from the supermarkets then drink at home, then the venues become empty and close and we don't have anywhere to play anymore....

i'd hate to think of the damage done to my lungs over the last 40 years that i've been gigging, all passive smoke as i've never indulged.

Roger, you'd be my first choice in any band.

i love that analogy from Bensonp; our bodies tend to give-up before our brains?

i thought i'd made one up; if it wasn't for bad luck i wouldn't have any luck at all. turns out it's from "born under a bad sign" and i'd heard it performed by Cream, great song, great band....yet so disappointed..

hi, i've always found that if i try and write a song it comes out eventually, it's hard work and rubbish, so i don't bother. what i do, do is (usually) when i'm in the shower or just waking up in the morning a line or two will spring into my mind, from where i don't know, i try and remember the words till i get down stairs and into my studio (it's just the front room really) and write them down. then i forget about them. sooner or later i'll be strumming a few chords and i'll get something interesting, then i'll look for some words, and there you are.
other times they'll come together then it's usually time to work out the chords. it's a dirty job, but.....

I have a 13 month old granddaughter who just loves music of any kind! Last night I had my Alesis drum pads out and she came in and wanted to have a go. After a little encouragement she gave the pads a good thrashing. She also loves strumming my guitar and though at first she hated it loves strumming a toy uke that's lying around. I've never seen such a musical kid!
