it so much reminds me of the old Steve MArtin Comedy routine - which I still use routinely when there are things I don't understand -   anyone remember this?
“Ok, I don’t like to gear my material to the audience but I’d like to make an exception because I was told that there is a convention of plumbers in San Francisco this week – I understand about 30 of them came down to the show tonight – so before I came out I worked-up a joke especially for the plumbers. Those of you who aren’t plumbers probably won’t get this and won’t think it’s funny, but I think those of you who are plumbers will really enjoy this…

“This lawn supervisor was out on a sprinkler maintenance job and he started working on a Findlay sprinkler head with a Langstrom 7″ gangly wrench. Just then, this little apprentice leaned over and said, “You can’t work on a Findlay sprinkler head with a Langstrom 7″ wrench.” Well this infuriated the supervisor, so he went and got Volume 14 of the Kinsley manual, and he reads to him and says, “The Langstrom 7″ wrench can be used with the Findlay sprocket.” Just then, the little apprentice leaned over and said, “It says sprocket not socket!”

“Were these plumbers supposed to be here this show…?”

Phill,
Dithering is the process of intentionally adding noise to the signal prior to its quantization. Dithering turns quantization distortion all the way down by randomizing quantization errors.
Dithering is mostly used when down-converting from the higher resolution bit-depths - such as 24-bit or 32-bit - down to 16-bit, the actual standard for distributing digital audio files. Dithering is also used during the analog-to-digital conversion and inside A/D converters, although noise inherent in the analog signal often serves as a natural source of dither in these cases.

I really have no idea what that means, I have enough trouble playing f's and bm chords!

With that said,   my mama used to tell me that if I dithered to much I'd go blind, so I just did it til I needed glasses !  smile

Hope you had a great day Phill - with or without dithering!

same reason you all know that right after the warranty is up, shit - happens !

These guys aren't the wealthiest people in the world for no reason.

Just plan on buying a new version at some point - it's less stressful smile  - you can't beat them.

That is awesome, man !

Those are terrific lyrics.  Great message.

As a teacher of  and coach of 40 years, I have seen schools do the same thing to long time educators that have devoted their lives to so many students. All of a sudden they get the hits end of the schedules and worse scenarios to handle - in an effort to encourage  them to retire so it will save the district $$$$$$.

Your message is somewhat different because it's by choice to leave - and for all the right reasons.

It doesn't get any better than to be able to live in  peace at " home" , with someone you love, surrounded by the beauty of nature.  If you have those, and your health,  you have it all, no billions can buy it. For me it's being with my wife and my daughters during  Springtime in the great hills and valleys of central NY and the beaches of Topsail Island of NC - it totally rejuvinates my soul.

Thanks to both Tenement Funster and D Ed for sharing such valuable words - it made my morning.

ps Ed - are you going to post with chords on songwriting ? I would love to hear how this goes.

Phill,

Nice song. Lyrics are excellent and your musicianship is unquestioned.  (I was however expecting it to be a little"rougher" as it is about a rough and tumble gunslinger smile ) I so enjoyed the picture of the youngster on the horse with the rifle- guessing its a grandchild!

Well done my friend!!

Mojo

I really like your   song - very strong emotional story, conjures up lots of scenarios - lets the listener fit their own pieces in.

I was wondering though - Was the line in stanza three last line supposed to say  I "never" saw  depression ,war or disease   ?

My thought on a title would be Devil's brew

good song - I like it a lot.

I got brave - put one of my songs on soundcloud - Summer Groovin'     https://soundcloud.com/tigljk/summer-groovin-1

I know I can't sing at all or play too well, but it is a song I like. If anyone wants to record  and send me a version with good voicing and playing, I 'd love it.

Amy

This has nothing to do with going camping.  : )

I just listened to some of your songs that you posted and I wanted to tell you that you have an outstanding voice.  The energy, pleasantness, and fun like passion that you emit is awesome.  I was only going to listen to one song, but I  really enjoyed listening so much,  I found myself going to and fro among your songs.  Very nice !!   Enjoy the blizzards and sub zero weather we are experiencing in upstate NY !!    Thanks for the ear candy, it made for a pleasant early Sunday morning  Amy.

Phill,

I like it a lot.  I was just pondering similar thoughts last weekend.  I was thinking of retiring after 37 years of teaching and coaching. And then I thought, holy crap all my friends that retired just a few years ago, it's like they never existed in the school. The same is true of another friend that retired from his job in an industrial tech setting, he went back to visit and he told me he felt like an alien from outer space.   Seems that everybody( especially today's youngsters)  hurries on by with their lives, and the new is ushered in without consideration.  I certainly realize that we all have created unknown shade trees which others have had the pleasure of sitting under through out lives, and we should take pride and solace in that,  but it does seem that today's world is so rapid and  self-serving, that the older generations are being swept under the rug , albeit unintentional, way too quickly.
Anyway, Phill - this is a very well written poem expressing many thought provoking and somewhat  anguishing sentiments.

Well done my friend across the pond!

Hey guys and girls.....

Just wanted to let you know I re-worked this song......   it had been bothering me.
I had always intended it to be named Country Music Lay Me Down. I woke up this morning about 5 am and had this other verse in my head, and so I modified the arrangement of the chorus trying to reflect my feelings.

I hope you think it was an improvement as I do.

Any suggestions are welcomed.
