I have not been watching my treats since July, which is why I had the stall.

It's this: No seconds, One treat per day, Booze is a treat, Treats are allowed only on days you exercise, Weekends don't count, Weekends start mid-afternoon on Fridays.

While I've permitted myself to go crazy on weekends, I find that I don't.  Once you get into the habit of watching what you eat and internalize the trade-off between excessive calories and the work you have to do to get rid of them, it takes care of itself.  I just don't want to beat myself up if I have a second glass of wine on Saturday evening.

Well, I got down to 238.4 in July and have stalled since then.  I crept back up to 242 at one point, but am now at 240.  My summer was not as active as I would have liked, but it was plenty busy.  Lots of business, little activity.  So now the leaves have mostly fallen, the temperature has declined, and I have returned to the Demonic Dominator 2000 (30 minutes this morning - it felt good to reset the weight from 255 to 240) and the Chuck Norris Torture Device 1800 (aka Total Gym - which I did yesterday).  I've been having some arthritis pain, so the Total Gym activity has taken a serious step back, but movement is movement.

So that's where I stand.  Another 20 to 30 pounds to lose to hit my goal.  It's a flexible goal for an inflexible guy.

Praise the Lord, man, that's awesome.  Lets hope you get full mobility back.  How cool would that be that you'd then be able to play guitar right or left handed.  You could be like a one-man rhythm section or something.  Maybe get a custom guitar built that you could strum with pedals while fingering two sets of chords.

We have a new member with the handle Narrowboat.  He put a question at the end of another thread.  It looked like it was placed there as an honest mistake, so I thought I'd help him out by moving it here for better exposure.

_____________

Here it is in its entirety:
"hi everyone,
alan s here alias narrowboat I am new to the forum and would appreciate some help.

I started playing 3yrs ago a lifetime ambition but at 66 years of age I am a little slow however, am looking to buy a used epiphone les paul. It looks superb but the serial no. given to me over the phone is+10041509595 and I cannot trace this anywhere on the internet. Could anyone advise me, all the numbers I have come across have fewer digits than this one and the various sites tell me this is unrecognisable.
Look forward to your resplnse....... Thank you in adviance - Alan"

Alan - In the future, if you get out to the main section of a forum, where all the different threads are listed, if you click on the button "New Topic", you'll be able to start your own threads.  Welcome to Chordie and good luck in getting the information you seek.    - Zurf

Hey Pix - stop in Richmond on your way up 95 and go to Bass Pro Shops to get Billie a flats shirt.  Those things are awesome.  Full length sleeves, but still cool and comfortable even in 90+ degrees, and they keep the sun off.  If you remember the light blue long-sleeved shirt I was wearing at the jam - that's what I'm talking about.  I wear one every time I'm on the river, even when it's 100 degrees.  I've had too many burns like Billie had and don't want any more.  Then a wide brimmed had to keep the sun off her face and neck and especially ears (but she's got hair so I guess that's not a problem for her).  They've got those at BPS too.  I wear long pants too usually of that same lightweight sun fabric, and I still stay cool and comfortable on the river.  If I get too hot, I just splash myself and the evaporation cools me better than not wearing a shirt.

I've had that idea too zguitar, but then I just get to playing songs and not really practicing and that puts a smile on my face - and for another night that's good enough for me.

There was a poster here a few years ago who had the handle "Wormproof", now there's a band name for you.

Irish Tape

Black Pot and the Kettles, or just Black Kettles

Preserved Jam

Your driver's license qualifies you, sir.

If your business travels ever bring you to the Washington, DC area please get in touch with me and let me know.  We'll figure something out, even if it has us jamming in a hotel lobby.

Lessons will help.  As a minimum, it will introduce you to new ways of thinking about old problems.

I got lost in Youtube on all the Botswana music.  Wow, that is some good stuff.  I've heard that Cajun has strong African roots, and after listening to the various tunes I can really hear it.  Especially on the song where the fellow joined in with an accordian.  That was a lot of fun.  Thanks for the link.

Bear in mind that the pinky and ring finger moving together is a genetic trait, like whether or not you can roll your tongue or whether your earlobes are attached or not.  You can learn to overcome it with practice.  I just want you to know that there's a reason why you're having difficulty with that and that you shouldn't blame yourself for having to put in some extra effort with it.

More to come.  I love making up band names.  Many times I'll be in a conversation and say "__________ would make a great band name."  Then when it's time to remember, I never do.  The only one I can recall at the moment is Artfully Dead Squirrels.

When I saw it was $0.60 to bid, and the way to win was to be the last bidder but there's no way of knowing how to BE the last bidder, my Rip-off-ometer went off.

Thanks for the updates.

I'll stick to the regular auction sites, I guess, where the high bidder wins and everyone has an equal shot.  I've gotten some real good deals on those for gifts.  From an inflatable kayak to a car GPS to a Nintendo DS, I've gotten real good (but believable) deals.  I guess when things are too good to be true, they usually aren't true.

Lowwater Bridge Campground in Bentonville, Virginia

http://www.lowwaterbridgecampground.com/

I've stayed there a few times and enjoyed it every time.  It's relatively convenient, or perhaps it would be better to say equally inconvenient, to several highways.

It sounds like folks who stayed there thought the facilities were adequate.  The bath-house was a pretty long walk, and that was the major inconvenience I think.  Plus you had to keep an eye on when the tube and kayak renters were due back from the river as the bath-houses got pretty crowded then.  Otherwise, it worked out pretty well.

The drunken 'possum and the friendly raccoon were toppers this past time.  I love that the raccoon just walked around the outside of the jam circle and stopped to wave when he got behind Dirty Ed.  Then he came out later to share a margarita with Roger (who is not on Chordie, but put on a heck of a light show for us).

Haha, I guess I'll praise my Ernie Ball Lights again. Like I said in the other string post, I love them. They work perfect for my fingers and my guitar. I think they're 11s, and that's what I'd recommend for other girls. smile Hope that helps!

... but hey mess around with other strings. Nothin' wrong with that.

I usually use 11's on my Yamaha and 12's on my Guild.  I hope it's OK that some guys use 11's too.

I am going to try some Ernie Ball 12's on my Guild.  It's made for bluegrass and fingerpicking and the extra volume could be helpful.
