I already had someone in Italy ask me to send it to him. He wants to make a poster of it as a backdrop for his band. How can I say no to a fellow Guinea.
That's AWESOME!

ha ha ha ha! I THINK we have a pretty good idea of what ONE of the songs MIGHT be picked is going to be (regardless of who's name gets chosen out of the hat)!
Remember though, we will likely pick TWO names out that hat. Which means, somebody will have to chose a different song. LOL! Enter your name, those two people chosen can't both pick the same song. Someone is going to have to get their thinking cap on beyond the obvious "rigging of the contest"!
ha ha!
OK, I was waiting for someone else to find Bill, and it worked! Roger and Scott added him, so I found him that way. hee hee hee... now Bill, just go though all the Friends that Roger, Scott and I have in common... and you'll find a bunch of chordie peeps! LOL!
It is a very cool looking photo JJJ. I will give ya that! It makes me want to cry along with Phill though. Course, my daughter has a couple guitars that she beats up. I can barely call them guitars, because really they're just "toys" that if you try to tune them you're guaranteed to break a string or something horrible (plus, she thinks she should spin the tuners every time she tries to play, so there's really no sense TRYING to tune them anyway). So I can appreciate what is truly junk. I can see us burning them someday.
I'll have to remember this photo and try get a good one myself if we ever do.
Nice snap! Would make a cool album cover!
Well Dad's doing a lot better, but it's still pretty iffy for me.
I'm hoping to see Dirty Ed here in Virginia at a different friend's campfire at the same place where we had the Shenandoah Zurfapolooza a few years back. The other friend is Herschel, of Hersch's Campfire Song
I'm so happy to hear that your Dad is doing better! I know you said recently you had the pleasure of visiting with him and your sister.
That's awesome! If you can make it, please do. Bring along Hersh, Roger, the whole gang if you like! Although, after the "tiny little campfire" we had last year, I'm not sure we'll need additional help from the "lighting guy", there could be a few raccoons to chat with.
That's some beautiful area there on the River. Gotta admit, I wouldn't mind visiting there again - though I'm not much for hopping into tiny boats without motors on them.
JJJ - my Dad just bought a camp around the corner from where you'll be staying. Good chance we can get you two out in his boat if you'd like and the weather agrees!
Kevin, NE is certainly a bit of a drive to NY! I can understand your inability to make it. All the same, should anything change and you decide to trek halfway across the country, we'd love to have ya! ![]()
I think I'd rather a pedal than an amp with the effects myself. Who wants to get that close to the amp to adjust effects when everything's on anyway? Burns the ears a little at times!
THANK YOU for sharing your review Kevin. It confirms some thoughts I've been mulling around lately!
We have a decent amount of gear in this house. I pretty much just use an acoustic unplugged, but sometimes will plug into my acoustic amp and plug in a microphone for fun (mostly for the kids to pretend they're on stage). There's an amp with tons of effects, there's a pedal with tons of effects, and the hubby just put a mod board in an electric. He's mostly been using the electric with the mod board in it though my acoustic amp. It's interesting how one may think they need all kinds of stuff, only to find out that they would have liked the sound and ease of use better if they'd have just gone down the cheap road to start!

Anyone else planning on coming that hasn't said so yet? ZURF - any possibility you'll be able to make it after all?
Sorry I missed your b.day here! I got ya on FB though!
Hope it was a GREAT day!!!!
I've changed the thread title a little, and added some color to the original post up above there. Remember, all we're doing this time around is Taking Names. No need to enter your suggestion for the song. Just enter your name if you'd like to have your Name Placed In The Hat and towards the end of the month, 1 or 2 people will be chosen! After we announce the WINNERS, you can then let everyone know what song you've chosen!
So, what are you waiting for? Toss your name in the hat!

Hey guys, since Google took over ownership of YouTube you can sign in and out of your account just like every other Google Site. In the upper right hand corner of the page, click on the little picture of your head (or empty profile picture placeholder) to sign into a different account. ![]()
Nicely done Zurf! Both of them! I think that I may have even detected a slightly different picking pattern in there than I'm used to hearing from you! Not picking on you of course, I pretty much only have one pattern myself. It's nice to hear you sing and project that voice out there! You've got such a nice low tone, and your intonation is getting better every time I hear you sing!
Darn it, you really need to come up north here next month! Your chatter and chuckles almost felt like you were here.
I'm starting to consider making a soundcloud account. I have a soundclick account and I use YT more than anything. But I do kind of like how when I go to soundcloud all the covers from all the people in here tend to be really easy to find, as long as they are named or tagged or whatever. I suppose it may be about time to make the transition. SoundClick has become something more like ReverbNation - not really for just sharing, but more for trying to sell. So... perhaps I'll give the soundcloud a try!
Hmmm... does Emmet Otter's Jug Band count? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6uFy_LDrgm4 ![]()
I think you talked him into near perfection.
NICE JOB PHILL! I like this "darker" version better.
OH! I found it!
Wow. Wow. What an interesting instrument. Doubling it up with your voice doubled up is a lot of melody/harmony going on with just a couple tracks. Kind of mind blowing.
Is it my imagination or is this an instrument often found in traditional Celtic music (along with flutes of course)?
Thank you for sharing this Roger. Very neat!
Graham! Cool! Very neat take on the song!
Rick -
Nicely done! Love the harmonica added in there. It's difficult enough to play guitar and sing, adding the harp in is awesome!
Joe, awesome! I could swear I've heard you play this before. Maybe it was you and the guys at the PA gathering? Probably, since that's one of "the guys" with you in the vid!
DINO - I don't think I've ever heard a recording from you. It's time. ![]()
Hmmmm... is that basically a teeny tiny classical guitar? My brother still has my classical, and I think I may never get it back. He's not playing it. Yet he's not returning it either. It may have "disappeared", which is OK. Maybe I need one of these!!!! ![]()
WOW - um, I need to hear one of you play something on one of these things!
That sounds like a LOT of work you've done to move everything around there Roger. Happy NahD!
Jan, I probably shouldn't jump in here, but everyone knew I would anyway I'm sure. I don't play any barre chords. Not one. SOMETIMES I think I should, and I practice a little. I can see a lot of benefits. Some songs "need" the sound of barred chords. I enjoy watching my husband play songs that I think are super tricky, and he just glides through them because he's barring EVERY single chord. But, I'm really stubborn. Maybe I like to make life difficult. LOL!
So, I play a non-barred F. When I first started, I'd leave the high E string alone. So my first F was not much different than a C. You can kind of mute the high E string as well. Now, I play both the High E and B strings with my index finger. Mini-barre if you will.
This one:
As a general rule, if I can find a way to play a chord that sounds decent and makes my life easier, I do it.
I play Bm and Cm without a barre too. (shh, they're all gonna yell at me!) I started playing in the more classical position that TF suggested. Of course, I WAS playing a classical guitar!
Now I usually hold my guitar in a more traditional position, but I still tend to tilt the guitar up toward my face a little (can see the fretboard better). This makes it much trickier to attempt barre chords, I will admit. So, if you're holding the guitar in a traditional position rather than the classical position, try to make sure it's not tilted up. A strap helps put it into the correct position.
Good luck! As for finger pain, maybe try putting the capo on and playing up a few frets. The action will be lower there but fingering doesn't change. You can work your way back down as your calluses develop more.
OR - just keep toughing it out and learn the "right" way!
GOOD LUCK LADY!
I'm back! I'd like to bring you something a little interesting! Sometimes, we get used to seeing certain faces. Actors and actresses. But then, happen upon some music of theirs and sit there wondering.... WHAT THE HECK is that person doing acting?
Well, I think the fact is, they make more money at it and can't do as well with the fun folksie songs. But that's just my theory.
Without further rambling, Kathleen Wilhoite, well known actress with a few of her originals here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3CkUDTLeKv8
TF - that is very true.
Doug, I've heard it's hard now to become a Canadian.
Hope your Canada Day was filled with good times!
Would YOU like to be the one to pick the song of the month for August?
In July, we had everyone put in their suggestions for what song should be chosen. The songs that were chosen were those that were the most popular. In previous months, this whole thing was just getting started. We want to MIX things up and keep it interesting! So, this month we decided... why not pick a PERSON and then let YOU pick the song???
Reply to this thread with something interesting that indicates your desire!
No need to pick the song yet!
Just enter your name in this thread for a chance to WIN your choice of song!
Examples: "PICK ME! PICK ME!"
"I want to pick the song"
"Tomatoes are fruits. Drop my name in the hat please!."
*or whatever imaginable thing you can add that also includes something that makes it clear that you want a chance to choose the next FSOTM! ![]()
Everyone that posts in this thread indicating their desire will have their name "placed in a hat" and the name will be randomly chosen. If you are chosen, you then get to choose the song of the month! The winner will be chosen and their name posted in this thread by mid to end July. The winner must submit the ONE song of their choice for the song of the month by the end of the Month.
Due to my lack of getting everything up here this month in a timely manner (again, I am soooooo sorry!!!!) We might set up some specific dates for getting your name into the "hat" as well as posting the chosen song. Depending on how things roll this month with TWO songs, we might even pick TWO people to choose songs for August!
*edited thread title and some wording for clarity
So what are you waiting for? READY? SET? GO!
August thread coming soon... like in a couple hours (when I'm actually done working... shhhh)

DOH! You could have just edited that instead of calling me out. LOL!
Um, I have good excuses for my extreme error though, want to hear them? I DID know it wasn't survival, I can say that. I was in a mad dash as I realized this morning (at the start of my work shift) that I was a DAY LATE on this! I think I misspelled Revival and did the whole, right click to fix my spelling mistake, and selected the WRONG word.
:blushing: :notimetoaddaproperemoticonrightnow: ha ha ha ha!
Seriously though, thanks for pointing it out. All fixed! PLEASE let me know if I screwed anything else up! ![]()
Sorry everyone! I'm a day late but not a dollar short! We had a few decisions to make this month, and it wasn't easy pickings! At the last minute, some new ideas popped up! TWO SONGS!
The July Song of the Month is
Wagon Wheel by the Old Crow Medicine Show
AND - because last month there was so much excitement about this, we're going to add in a SECOND song! That's right! TWO songs of the month!
Down on the Corner by Creedence Clearwater Revival
There's a version of Wagon Wheel right here on Chordie: Wagon Wheel
And a second one here: Wagon Wheel 2
Down on the Corner has a bunch of versions available. Here's a list: Down on the Corner Search Results
No doubt if you do a little searching, you'll find other versions and arrangements all over the web!
Remember, this is a Cover Song, so feel free to do it YOUR WAY and make it your own! It's a blast to hear all the different ways that people interpret a song.
No doubt we've got some amazing guitar players, singers, harmonicas, ukes, mandolins, and more! Get it recorded, and share the link in this thread!
*edited to add the second song!
*edited again for a horrid spelling error!
Ready? Set? GO!!!!
Sorry! I was LATE! It's going up now.... ... ...
I just realized its in 3/4
I haven't come across very many songs in 3/4 time, especially songs for guitar. Now, I'm quite intrigued. One of you will have to put a recording of this up for us!
The words are lovely. Welcome to Chordie Patti!
