I have a book that simply says in a major scale 145 are always major 2 3 &6 are minor and the 7th is diminished so in practice in the key of Cmaj the 7th is a Bdim (lowered not flat) this holds true for any major key smile

Nice work on that Wayne I have been doing the song for awhile but when I learned it I didn't know how to fingerpick but it sounded ok then I took a course and it sounds more like what you were doing which is closer to what John Prine did then what I was doing before, nice playing and good vocal smile

fatstrings that's interesting I have always used a portable CD player that could tune to a vacant FM frequency and play thru the car radio so if he needs to convert to wav can media player burn a wav format? I dont think it can I know the Nero program I have wont even recognize a wav file so if he renders all his songs to wav I'm not sure how he can burn them to disk unless he leaves them as mp3's and uses a player like you describe or like the one I use smile

Thanks Doug for the song list there's a few old favorites I used to do with a few bands so it wont be to much trouble remembering them,I'm working on the solo for Steely Dans "Reeling in the years" the duel harmony part requires execution but its not all that hard I just want to play it clean note for note, the songs I'm having the most fun doing are Captain Jack,Excitable boy, werewolf of London and Ricki dont lose that number all great songs and I also am doing some Dire Straits "money for nothing and so far away there is a song I like that's going to take a little work on the vocal "wind beneath my wings" so I have enough to keep be busy for the next few weeks smile

some beauties you got there pix I will have to take some photos of my stuff smile

Russel_Harding,
That sounds like a fun set you've put together. I would enjoy hearing all of them.
For how many hours do you need material? I have some tunes in my 400 tune fatbook that might dovetail with what you are preparing. Be glad to help.

pretty good im waiting on a FS-5 and psa power supply for the pedal but Ive been working with it to get the most out of it the real trick is plugging in all the instruments so I can use them live when I want so I can work the bugs out at home instead of before a live audience and Im confident its going to be ok with some more rehearsing smile

Zurf there will be plenty of other songs like the Eagles Jimmy Buffet and of course "a few to many" and some more Neal young I just started the set list and one other Edmond Fitzgerald perhaps some Harry Chapin for good measure, decisions decisions lol

Zurf wrote:

I'd listen to that.

Mix in a little country/folk/rock like some more Eagles, some old Johnny Cash (Hey Porter!, Blue Train, etc.), and maybe some Brit invasion - Who or Stones and I think you've got one heck of a set that'll appeal to a wide audience.  I know you are comfortable in nearly any style with your writing, so expect that you'd be comfy with just about anything as covers.

Be sure to throw "A Few To Many" at them!!!  Followed up maybe by Whiskey River or Bloody Mary Morning.

I've been working on It's a Great Day To Be Alive by Travis Tritt, but can't get his peculiar growl-shout singing down, and especially not in his key.  I can go higher or lower, but can't hit his particular key.  Grrrrrrrrrrrr.

OK these are the first ten i'm rehearsing and there coming along very well I am just useing my acoustic to get a feel and the right chord changes and leads
1. Captain Jack- Billy Joel
2.Shooting Star- Bad Company
3.Ricky dont lose that number-steely Dan
4.Reeling in the years-Steely Dan
5.Werewolf of London-Warren Zevon
6.Excitable Boy-Warren Zevon
7.Paradise-John Prine
8.Sam Stone-John Prine
9.Norwegian Wood-Beatles
10.After the gold rush-Neal Young
also Come to Papa Bob Seeger,Witchy Woman and a few more, once I am comfortable with playing and singing I will use my pedals and effects to enhance, I think Ricky was the hardest because of the vocal range and the cool lick leading into the chorus but I have all the time in the world to really polish these songs so the audience will know it and appreciate the efforts smile

I have not used the Chordie index for copying songs because all the songs I do are original but since I purchased the RC-20XL loop station and a PA I am going to be playing a few gigs so I needed a set list of recognizable songs and I selected various songs from the index from Billy Joel to Warren Zevon and used the transpose feature and printed about 25 last night, most of these songs are easy to play I needed the lyrics more then chords and I will be mixing up the set list with several of my own songs and in the next few weeks I figure to be fairly tight on the arrangements and useing the loop pedal and I just wanted to thank all the editors for the work they put in to make this site the best on the internet smile

Ron download the free audacity program from sourceforge.net and at the bottom of this post is a link to my audacity tutorials 1 thru 4 they are wmv format and will play on your media player and give all the information how to transfer songs from your recorder to your PC and convert them to mp3 to burn to disc I would recommend downloading all four and any questions that are not answered in the tutorials that you may have give a holler here and I will do my best to help smile

Ron wav format is generally a better sound but consumes more megabytes on the hard drive and I'm not sure if media player can burn a wav format but the mp3 is easy and takes up less space and the fidelity or sound quality is not really noticeable and will be easier to burn I use the Nero program to burn my Cd's it is a better program then media player smile

Stephen I google up this tuning and there really was no name other then alternate tuning, the several references I found were contained in threads from sites and the fact that some people use this tuning but there was no significant name attached to it like drop d or c I would think the key you apply this tuning to could factor in some way in regards to what its called smile

Avast in ok but it slows down the boot time AVG is as good and I replaced avast and no security problems exist smile

Marc I checked out the link to Chordie and I dont know how or why its listed your also listed under facebook smile

According to the information provided in the link there is no threat and Norton runs sort of like the robot on "lost in space" reliable at times and paranoid to the point where every site is a threat I dumped mine and replaced it,Chordie dose not host songs so any threat would have to generate from the site you access but the real problem is Norton itself it reminds me of the star trek episode featuring "Nomad" whose mission was to sterilize imperfection and only he was perfect smile
