Yes resprod you will (with practice) end up liking bar chords there essential to know if you want to express yourself musically otherwise your limited to open position chords or partial bar positions that leave a lot to be desired, it could help if you make sure your strings are the right height above the fretboard and that there not to heavy gauge(the strings) because it only makes it harder to play the bar chords that follow the melodies in your head
resprod wrote:Thanks Russell. That sounds like a great start to get me going. Unfortunately will probably end up liking some crazy chords or barr chords which I haven't learned yet. :-) But I suppose that gives me more encouragement to learn them
A Chet Atkins Type song is fingerpicking as is Merle Travis,Leo Kottke,James Taylor ect..and alternating bass notes is part of fingerpicking thats why I said strummed or fingerpicked at the same time because even if your fingerpicking one of the "bouncing"notes has to fall on the first and third beats of the bar
SouthPaw41L wrote:resprod wrote:Okay, that makes sense. I will try it on the song and see if it sounds like it is suppose to. Is the bass note and the cord played at the the same time or is a fingering on the bass and then strum the chord?
That would depend on the song you're playing. Straight ahead strumming you'd play them together. If you're playing a Chet Atkins' type song( country, rockabilly, etc.) you might chose to play the C chord and G bass notes seperately 'bouncing' back and forth between the two.
I play the "evil B" with my 1st finger barring the second fret and I use my 4th finger instead of my third on the 4th fret for the D G and B strings its less strain on my wrist and hand and thanks for the comments
resprod wrote:Russel:
Listened to you song on YouTube. Very nice. Great feeling. I do have to agree with Zurf on the "B' chord. Those Barr chords are going to be my nemsis.
D/G ? are you sure its not a D/F#
ApeDoctor wrote:funnily enough, I have more problems with an F than a B. I can quite smoothly change into a B (ish), where as a proper F still makes me hesitate for a second.
On topic, I hate the D/G (or similar), because I just can't work out a comfortable way to hold a D and add a bass note. I often end up cheating and just play the bottom two open with a normal D
according to the manual when the battery go's dead all internal memory is lost you can put a new battery in I found a link to dowload useful info and if you type in the address bar korg midi 1 and hit search there are several links you can explore for specific information if you have a manual it should list the number for support this is a link you could follow that may be helpful
http://www.geocities.com/tlittle72/ if you scroll down halfway on this page it shows you how to change the battery on your korg midi 1
Buble the top string is a E string in a C major chord the notes are C E G or 135 so its ok to hit the 1st string E because its in the chord but try and avoid hitting the low E or 6th string it is not a desireable sound it can be muted with the 3rd finger by just touching it this is done (muting) with a lot of chords

Zurf wrote:If you like that 3/4 old-style country songs, try Russell's "A Few To Many". It's a terrific old-school style drinkin' and cheatin' country song, though he did have the shear cussedness to slip a stinking "B" chord into it. Freakin' mutant.
He posted it on the Songwriting forum here a long while ago. I don't know how long those things are archived, but you may be able to find it using a search.
Russell plays it with all sorts of wonderful licks and fills, but I play it with a simple bass strum strum, bass strum strum.

find a chord that feels comfortable for the highest and lowest notes in the melody you have in your head for the song your singing and that will generally be the key of the song, once you know what key its in go from there, find chords that sound good in that key for the melody your singing if you need technical help with how chords relate in any key just ask
resprod wrote:Now I have to get the music. I have the melody in my head and I can sing my song; I just don't know what chords or notes that I am singing

Deadstring, yes thats what it means, and thanks for reminding me I remember guitarpix used that exact phrase to describe keeping a topic alive
deadstring wrote:Russ, Shifter may be talking about this when asking about bumpiing a post. Say you make a post and you get no replies and your post gets lost in the shuffle. Can we go back and add something to bring it back to the top of the list? Perhaps that is what was meant.
its unfortunate you have no website where we can listen to your prowess and expertise on guitar,or a video we can watch as you dazzle us with your ability to shred Mel bay book 1 perhaps in the not to distant future you can provide samples of your outstanding abilities
welcome2myhead wrote:why is it that every song i look at on this site has those stupid tabs? has no one here studied music at all? People need to REALLY learn how to play the guitar
shapeshifter welcome to Chordie, im not sure what you mean by "bump our topics" if you mean delete them the answer is yes if you created the topic, and you can delete a post if its yours, as to images in signatures, no we had a problem with pornongraphy and had to eliminate animated gif's you may have an avatar as long as it is no more then 60X60 pixels and as to a limit on images can you be more specific "what kind of images"? regarding facebook and living in HK you will find that out if someone responds regarding those questions hope this helps
