Roger Guppy really enjoyed your song. While others are living in the past, you have made a great version of the song to honor your Baby Girl, Donna. It is fresh and so very good.

Re: Using Carnauba (Car) Wax To Polish....... (28 replies, posted in Guitars and accessories)
I only know about Classical guitars and many guitar builders and Luthiers suggest using Fenders Spray Wax on the body of the guitar (not on fret board) and use a micro fiber cloth. I use it when I change strings. When guitars are built they do not have strings on them until at the end, so usually I remove all strings, do my polish and cleaning, and then restring. It take almost a week for classical strings to stop stretching. I tune the strings 2 or 3 times a day and do not play them until they stop stretching.
Steel strings settle in must faster. That is a plus for steel steel strings guitars.

Re: Guitar Requirements (11 replies, posted in Acoustic)
unclejoesband thank you for mentioning neck sizes and shapes. I should have mentioned it in my original post. There was a long time when I only bought Luthier made custom guitars and the cost seemed justified. The only problems I had was with 8 guitars I had my favorites and played all of them. The neck shape varied even with the same custom builders. They sounded wonderful and I believed at the time they made me a better player. Them when a collector offered me much more than I had invested in them I sold all of them to one collector. I had already bought two Yamaha upper end classical guitars that I used when doing a concert at a place I play yearly. No one in the event could tell a difference and the ones I bought played exactly the same. I have since bought a total of 8 of the same models, 3 spruce and 5 cedar. So for the first time in years all the guitar feel and sound and play exactly the same. They feel the same, sound great, and play wonderfully. Best of all no venue I play can tell the difference. I use two to practice with, and then the others I use for venues and when I change strings I tune them until they no longer stretch and use those for concerts and venues. The neck sizes are the same and are smaller so they are actually easier to play for longer times. So neck sizes do matter.

Yes the guy with the long nail is a lefty. From the look of his nails he must have layers of hardener on then too, Personally if you know how to play those long nails are more for looks than being practical. I play some very good pieces and have never use long nails. Another guy I know who can not grow out his nails goes to a nail salon and has false nails attached and thinks he plays better. I sounds more tinnie than mellow.

Re: Finger Picks (9 replies, posted in Guitars and accessories)
Zurf I understand your situation. Although I could grow out my finger nails, I have always kept them short and use callouses on my fingers rather than uses nails. Long finger nails are newer. The end sound is the same and most of the true fathers of modern classical guitar did not use finger nail and they kept their nails shorter too. I practice every day for 2 to 3 hours. I know of one guy who had very long finger nails on his left hand and he will not wash a dish or do anything at all with his left hand except play guitar. When I finally got to listen to him play, he was not a good player.
I had one student who came back to talk with me because while helping a friend he cut the end off his thumb. I took him to our local music store and I fit a slick pick on his thumb. It does not stick out much and once he got use to it he is playing as good as ever and he was a very good player. He came back to visit after he used the slick pick for 2 months and he played excellent with it. He has since ordered a case of the same pick. Somethings need changes our views, and that is a good thing. Good luck with what you are trying now. Hope it works for the long term.

What are you minimum requirements for a guitar if you are in the market for a new one.
Personally I like ebony fret boards, Mahogany Necks , solid front and back , laminated sides are fine and seem stronger than solid, and I use both cedar and spruce. I use cedar more and use spruce for certain songs. All of mine are classical and I have a brand preference.

I completely agree in what you have been discussing. We moved back to where I live so my wife could help with her parents and me mine. It worked out for both of us to help and because it was home for both of us, we just never left afterwards. We still visit there graves. The best part was spending time with them while we had them.

Tenement Funster thank you for including Muriel Anderson . She is very good on a classical guitar. Do not know if you noticed she rarely looks at her fingers. Every classical guitar is the same size and if you know what you are playing you do not have to look at you fingers. She plays a wide variety of music and her technique i is well known.

Re: Bad Habit Number 10 (For Me) (15 replies, posted in Acoustic)
Bill my first guitar when was 13 was a steel string and after a few months I sold it and then bought my first classical guitar. I played it and read books and changed to my left leg and taught myself how to do a Travis pick with my thumb and two fingers. This got me hooked. So a year or so later I found a guy , though the local music store, who played true classical music and he agreed to give my lessons. First I learned how to read music really well, and then had to forget everything I had taught myself. I took lessons from him for two years and at my first recital I play Moonlight Sonata and Prelude to Opt5. After that that teacher said he could not teach me more than I had learned and there was a classical guitar teacher at my recital and he talked with with me and said he could take me to a farther in playing. He lived an hour away and I took lessons from him for two more years until he said I was at a level that if I kept working he would , be available if I wanted to talk and said I had advanced beyond him. So my earlier bad habits had been gone.
So thinking about Chordie members, there are some who have steel string guitars and also a classical for the sound. There is nothing wrong with that. Not every person who buys a classical guitar wants to play different songs than they normally play.
Bill I made my living in the corporate world and still played every night for at least two hours. I retired early and put in more and more time playing and doing concerts. Later I began to teaching classical guitar too. Those who worked hard did really well and 3 who got full music scholarships. Others dropped off because they were not dedicated enough.
As far as current bad habits , I hope they ended many years ago. So for the last many years I do not think I have any bad habits. I usually practice 2 to 3 hours a day and take 3 days off from playing if I have a concert so my hands can rest. The one thing I do that many do not do is I talk to the audience and tell them what the next song is an who wrote it. The final few several minutes I ask the audience if they want to hear any certain songs.

Strummerboy Bill wrote:Well, I thought "shredding" is when someone plays their electric so hard and fast it shreds their hand, and there'd be blood flying all over the stage and the front row of the audience where the young ladies sit and scream, and one of them gets covered with James Hetfields blood and she goes home screaming to her Mom and Dad that she will never again wash her face and hair, but next day at school, she's forgotten all ABOUT that and she and her friends scrape the dried blood off the face and hair, put it into a test tube to see if they can clone ol' James. THAT"S what I thought "shredding" meant.
LOL! This is the best definition I have ever read.
I think Bill needs to start an online slang dictionary!
If he does, I want a copy of it. I would well be worth it.

Re: Guitar Strings: Accoustic and Electric (16 replies, posted in Acoustic)
With respect, True Shredding has nothing to do with the type of guitar and you can find different examples of different types if you do a search. Regardless of the type of guitar it simply has to do with the speed you play. It can be an acoustic guitar, a classical guitar, or an an electric. It can be an acoustic guitar with an electric pickup without any type other types of effect.

Re: Guitar Strings: Accoustic and Electric (16 replies, posted in Acoustic)
Shredding usually means building speed when playing guitar. So it does not matter if you use a pick, your thumb, or all five fingers it would depend on how fast you can do how you play.

Re: Computer Died (Maybe) (18 replies, posted in Chordie's Chat Corner)
Strummerboy Bill your computer uses DDR2 ram and came with both 2, 3. and 4 slots rated at 800 hertz. If is ram that is the problem, unplug your computer for at least 15 minutes for all power to drain from your power supply and mother board. It is also a good idea when handling ram to wear a pair of nitrate gloves that can be found at Walmart and Loves. If you have two more slots used buy the same ram for all slots so it will be the same speed. Also it might not be ram it could also the power supply so if you are not sure it might be easier to call a tech to be sure. Also if it was used a tech can vacuum the inside and clean it so it breaths better.
Also just to mention it never used anything on ram or a power supply parts. Any debris can ruin parts of a computer can ruin other parts.
Do you hear any fans running when you turn on the computer? If not take it to a good tech. Just some thoughts.

Doug Smith, beamer, Tenement Funster, Russell Harding, TIGLJK, Zurf, Strummerboy Bill, Baldguitardude and many others who are too many to mention. I wish you and others Chordie members the very best now and always.
Chordie is more than a place to come to for music chords and riffs. It is a close community with wonderful members who support each other. It those who are great song writers and poets.
One thing I would change are those who are self promoting and constantly post without thought, and do videos who at first I thought were a joke and then realized they think they are good. What they do not realize is they are not the normal on Chordie at all.
So with a tip of a hat, and a many memorable times, I bid you all adieu. And this will be my final post.

I am not an attorney however I just called a fiend who is. He said you do not know who might send to someone else and it could backfire for you. What he said is with your talent a totally original song is safer. If you make it parity it still has to have more original words. Even Weird Al got permission from the artist he was doing a parity for before he recorded it. Phill he did not know why I asking however this is the other side to consider.
