Went to do more work on the body last night. When I went into my autobody tools to get the putty, I found a tube of cream hardener that was hard. So I went to AutoZone to buy some and another can of primer. When I went to go to my truck I found 40.00 on the ground. It was a good thing I ran out of putty. Now you can say I made 28.00 getting the putty. Or I got the guitar for 10.00.

How did you put the gouge in your truck? Maybe you need too work away from it.
Maybe?/ I used the hood as a workbench. With an electric sander. In hindsight, it wasn`t the greatest idea.

Started to prime. Found 2 scratches in the back I have to putty. Also what looks like a crack on the top horn. Pic on facebook. There was one spot that didn't dry after wet sanding.I will have to address that also. Supposed to rain today. If I have time I will work on the pickguard

jjj,you might want too wet sand it ,that saves you alot of money on sandpaper and helps you too see areas highs and lows. Russell did it with his stratocaster. His finish came out great. judjing by the pictures you may want too get some wood filler also.
Dino. I am not even close to done with the sanding. I had to use the real rough paper with a palm sander to get the orange and green paint off. (also put a gouge on the hood of my pickup). Then I wet sanded it with 320. Then I ran out of time. After some yard work today, I will do more and hopefully get it primered.

JJJ,you most likely want too paint it first, then put the electrics on.
Yes. I can still assemble the pickguard though. I bought the paint already. It is a sky blue metallic. A Honda color. I have to do more sanding, Priming, sanding and sanding. When I am done sanding, I will have to do even more sanding.

The pickguard arrived in the mail Tuesday. Depending on the weather, I will either do the sanding and painting, assembling the electronics or both. Pics of the new parts are on facebook. Have to buy some sandpaper and the paint. Wish me luck

There are no tabs for this. If anyone wants to hear it they will have to go to youtube. I don`t know how to put up the link. I wouldn`t anyways if I did. If you search the song you will see why. It is "The Spelling Song" by Red Peters.

I remembered that song right away. And I grew up in the 70s. If you want a beatles song that is hard to remember, how about "Theres A Place"

you know when i saw those photo's i had a strange feeling in my stomach, i felt a little sick and my mood changed to depressed. i know that's part of the process and once done the guitar will have a new lease of life, sound and look beautiful. but looking at it now makes me rather weepy. sorry, i just had to say that.....boo hoo. please hurry-up and get it back to beautiful and get the pictures up here. i could never be a guitar doctor!!!!!
The picture doesen`t show what awful shape the guitar is in. Whoever had it before didn`t appreciate what they had. It was in a pile of (stuff) in a garage when I picked it up. The guy was trying to sell that one, a Peavey electric and a Squier amp for 150.00. I was ready to buy all 3 just to get the Fender. He separated them and sold me the Fender. Obviously it wasn`t pampered. It probably won`t be worth much more than my investment when I finish. But I can say I did it myself.

I already have or ordered most of the parts. When the pickguard comes. I have to put it together and hope the pickups work good. Just bought black knobs, pickup covers and a new toggle switch. I have to finish sanding the body and prime, sand some more and paint. Oh , thank you so much for posting the pictures. Total cost so far 125.00. Figuring on another 30.00 for paint and sandpaper. In the end, I will have a Fender electric for around 160.00 . I could have cleaned it and strung it and had a 50.00 fender. It would still be an ugly guitar. . It is a 1993. Has a shorter scale neck, but not 3/4 size.

Ignore your wife and daughter. Paint it purple.
My daughter already has a purple Strat. I have a red one. Has to be a different color

Good news- the pickups work. The toggle switch has seen better days. It is picking up radio signals though.

I already ordered a nut on ebay. As far as the bridge goes, I will try to clean it up first. My wife wants me to paint it teal blue. My daughter (the trout) wants me to paint it lime green or the bluish-green colors that was on appliances in the 60s. I am thinking orange, yellow or gold metalflake to go with the black abalone pickguard I ordered. I need to get some black pickup covers and knobs and hope the electronics and switches work

Topic: NGD and a junk at that.. (48 replies, posted in Electric)
Today I picked up a Mexican Fender Duo Sonic for 50.00. To say it needs a little work is an understatement. The pickguard is broken. The bridge is rusty and the nut is broken. I haven`t even plugged it in yet to see if all the electronics work. It was also painted with flourescent pink and lime green lines all over. I am going to take it apart and repaint the body. My question is if the nut from a strat will fit on this. I always wanted to do a project like this and I think I have a good foundation to start with. If I screw up. I won`t be out much. I ordered a new pickguard on ebay for 50.00. Now I need to get a bridge and a nut. If the pickups don't work, I already have a plan for that. Any help or suggestions are appreciated. Pictures soon. ( Have to bug Roger)

Stop complaining about mistakes and work around them. That`s what I do. The fact that someone was able to post a song tells me that they know more than I do. You obviously have so much expertise that you are too good for any guitar sites. Now go and collect your Nobel Prize for your contribution to humanity. You probably think Shemp is the funnier stooge too.

Use it with that cabinet. If it sounds good, you`re all set. even if you had 200 watts. Would you have it cranked that loud where all 200 of those watts would be utilized?

Start with the most simple solution. How far are you from the amp. Are you right next to it or is it away from you? Try moving it away from you.
