Looks like the All Blacks lost to the power team from Fiijii.  I missed the USA game, but managed to catch brief glimpses of others off and on.

Good day today for getting a few little things done outdoors..... so the pasture got mowed for the second time this year!  It's February and we are supposed to have a dusting of snow on the ground this early in the Spring.  Bees are out and buds on the flowers already!  What happened to Winter?  Oh yeah, it went over to the East side it seems.

My first time missing in years. I love that weekend. I'm in ca with the preggers.

BGD they are supposed too be telivised tommorrow. How many preggers are there?

I'm guessing that there is only one!  BGD and Lady are expecting (due soon?) and likely he's staying close to her side to be available to "catch".
Although I'm not sure that they let you do that anymore..... I caught our first two, and by number three, the Doc was more like "get out of the way! I got this!".

But back to Rugby.... good matches today and more to come Sunday.  Sevens is a faster game than regulation (fewer players, shorter time) so you can see several at a sitting.  Kids all played Soccer and we all enjoyed the five-a-side tourneys for the same reasons the Sevens are so entertaining.

Sorry to see the All Blacks lose to Fijii, but injuries left the team playing with the "kids".  The ages of the players NZ put on the pitch were 17-23 years!  I was impressed with the skill and heart they displayed and all should be proud of their showing.

Did anybody notice that this thread was "dredged up" from 2006 by someone who has been banned as a likely spammer???  Granted there was no resolution offered at that time and so the question is valid...... but ?

Good job guys in a valiant effort to help a fellow Chordian.  Just shows that there is no post too old, and no question unanswered!  Another reason this is the best guitar site on the planet!

Good Morning!   I have noticed that the site has been down quite a bit lately.  At least in the time  blocks that I am usually here spam bashin'.
If it takes more that a few seconds to connect, I visit www.iidrn.com  and check the status.  Usually it will report that "the site is down for everybody", and usually regularly on Friday nights between the hours of midnight and 4 AM GMT (8 PM and Midnight my time).  I assume that is a slack time for Chordie in general, and being worked on in some manner.

As long as the bridge is in the bridge position and the neck at the neck (some are slightly wound differently)  On gibson type you will find the screw spacing is also different (wider at the bridge).  Commonly the screws are on either the neck side or the bridge side respectively.  Having the bridge flipped will only make the tone less twangy, so if you like the sound..... anything goes!

Happy NGD Zurf !!

You are indeed lucky to be getting a 12 at this time of life....... when I got mine there was no such thing as an digital tuner, just a pitch pipe or tuning fork.  I really felt fortunate to actually play it once in awhile, keeping it in tune was almost a hobby in itself.

Enjoy!

Great job Raquel!  By all means you should keep it up and don't be shy about it, you have a gifted voice.

Now for Roger.....  Buddy, I'm assuming that you did the post production on the audio.  A little constructive comment here, a bit much on the delay.  To me it sounds like she's singing in a culvert, but you can tell that she has a voice that does not need a lot of help.  You are teaching her well and the instrumental was in time and done nicely.

On review, it occurred to me that what I'm hearing is more of a chorus effect that may have come from routing the mic through the guitar amp rather than an effect added to the vocal track after.

It's a thumbs up from me.....

Hi again Jerry,  Yeah..... I hadn't thought about that.  I really thought that the preference would "hold".  That may not be the case, but you might try making the change and THEN add it to your songbook (which will likely give you two instances of the song in your book).  Then compare the two and see if your modification persists in one of them.

My thought is that you may have to "save" the changes in order to have them stay there, otherwise it just will reload the original from the web when you open it again.

I'm not sure what to do if your "long A" isn't in the grids and I don't know how one would go about importing it from another source. I've seen that fingering before noted as above, and A+,  although technically it would be considered an A8 ...... ???? so what do you name it?

Let me know;
Doug

Hi Jerry,

I think that if you open the song in "my songbook" you can click on the grid you want to change, and it should take you to the alternate grids page where you can choose a different one.  You should be able to click on the replacement and the change will be added to your preferences for that song in your book.

Let us know if that doesn't work for you.  There has been a bit of work going on in the background, and if something isn't quite right we like to know about it so it can be looked into.

Thanks;
Doug

Bill, There's something you should know about brother Zurf....... he's always bashing on the B chord (note his Avatar).  Some of us can still remember when it was the F, and we are holding our breath waiting for the day he discovers dominant 7th b5 or #9 chords.  Russell granted him amnesty from the B but I'm not sure how to inoculate for those.

That's why they invented Trains!  So folks could get up, wander around, visit the dining and club cars, watch the scenery, nap, and of course not have to wander too far afield to find a restroom.

Sadly, unlike Europe.... they don't go everywhere, but if you're not in a hurry can be a lot more economical than flying.  Checked out a trip to visit friends in North Dakota mid summer, and it was like $750 to fly and $149 on Amtrak  Well No!  I checked and for some unknown reason the train goes from Antlanta to DC (where you gotta hang out for 8+ hours) and then get on another heading South for yet another 11+ hours to Tampa.
At least my overnighter to Williston was continuous. Guess that's why so many of us go by air!.

As for the cat being out of the bag..... I guessed awhile back that Roger was planning to attend (the hint was in the comment about "swim trunks" and "swimming lessons", along with something that Toney mentioned) but I can keep a secret.

Roger,  Have a good trip and make lots of good memories!

Well with the serial number and model, you should be able to go to the Gibson/Epiphone website and get some valid info about the guitar.  Epi did have a few acoustics on the market as well as some A/E (SST) models in nylon and steel with the Chet Atkins signature.  I don't know if they were an endorsement issue or what.  But by all means share whatever you find out as "curious minds want to know".

As for the GAS... that's up to you, but by all means play it before you buy it, as from what I've seen the SST models were a semi-hollow design and might sound a bit thin unplugged.

Howdy,  Well I don't remember Chester with an Epiphone...... so I had to do a little research.  Turns out that he started out with a Gibson L10 in the late 30s that got broken and replaced with another Gibson, a L7 this time, and played that pretty much exclusively right up until he was fixed up with a D'Angelico Excel in 1950.  Then Gretsch hooked him up with a prototype 6120, which was shelved for the Iconic "Country Gentleman" in 1959. The new model was designated 6122 and was pretty much Chet's signature guitar from about 1960 til the end.

Couldn't find any references to an Epiphone that he actually used on stage or in recordings, although I would not be surprised if there might not be a few "Signature" model/brands out there..... kinda like the Joe Pass Epiphone that Joe likely didn't play except at some trade show somewhere, but was built to the specs of the Gibson that he did play.

As a bit of trivia for ya though, The Gretsch that Chet did play "looks" like a "F hole" hollow-body..... but is not ported.  The F holes are actually decorative decals that Chet liked the look of but serve no other purpose.

That first Gibson L10 had belonged to Les Paul, and Chet's older brother Jim played guitar in Les' orchestra and acquired it.  He gifted it to his kid brother when Chet was 12 years old.

The Gretsch G6122 Country Gentleman is still in production and lists for just a tad under $3800 with the original type Filter-tron pups and Bigsby.

Howdy Bill,  Not much help I'm afraid..... but there is a pretty good write up:    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Dave_Clark_Five
and there is a fairly complete listing of references as well.  Sorry I couldn't come up with a "book"..... these days if there was one available, you could gather up an e-book version and dig in!

Howdy James,  on the song page you should see a print option on the right side frame (below the transpose frame).  That should open up your printer application and allow you to print a hard copy.  On PCs [CTRL]+P should do the same thing.  It would however help to know what hardware you are using and the operating system/browser you use as well.  So if it is a glitch in our system we can replicate the condition and take steps towards a remedy.

By the way the song you are looking at displays fine on my machine and all the proper icons etc. are visible and functional.

Thanks;
Doug

Howdy Frank and Welcome to Chordie!!

It appears that if you choose a larger font on the song page and then print it, it does print as shown (ie Larger). Font size is selectable on the right side options frame.  At least in the Chrome browser.  Your mileage may vary with a different browser.  I usually run Firefox on a Linux platform, but installed Chrome for this test.  Safari is an unknown, and I have not used a Mac for years, so will not commit to any of the "fruit" devices out there, or "little robot" apps that might be on a mobile device.  Not that there's anything wrong with them, just my eyes enjoy not having to squint at a display smaller than 14 inches.

You may also have some font size options available in your printer settings preferences, and as a last resort, you can also choose print to file as a PDF and manipulate the resulting document to your liking and then either save or print.

Hope that is helpful, and I'm sure others will be along to welcome you to the forums, and offer additional advice if I missed a base or two.

Welcome Aboard!

As an "aside", the other day my "IT Guy" was telling me about a different extension that I might check out..... (senior moment) for the life of me I don't recall what it was!  Anyway, it was intended to obscure your ad tracking trends..... not by blocking trackers, but by registering "click through" on EVERY ad on EVERY page you visit EVERY time you visit!  That would really drive the ad revenue up on a site you like to support!

I'll get the scoop and post it somewhere like Chat Corner so members who like can decide if it's viable as a way to help Chordie a few cents at a time.  Ad $$$ do contribute to keeping Chordie free.  Here it is:  https://dhowe.github.io/AdNauseam/

A Firefox extension that runs in concert with adblock (required), version for Chrome "coming soon".

Dang! had to quote myself.....  Anyway I installed the Adnauseam Extension a couple of days ago (most current beta) and so far I'm not impressed.
Parhaps I don't wander far enough afield in the "dangerous" back-alleys of the web-verse, but it hasn't found (and logged) very many ads, and "clicked" on none of them.  Doesn't even "see" ads here on Chordie, and so...(unless it is a buggy beta) I cannot recommend it as a tool to increase ad revenue for our favorite web-site.  I'll keep it for awhile and see what happens over time, but......?

Bill,  It's handy to use quote...... especially if you are commenting on a post that is a few back from where you are.... Sometimes we get to "wandering" a little around a topic.  Guess that is one of those things that makes us different from other Forums...... we don't get all uppity if posts aren't strictly on topic.  Guess that comes from understanding that as we age our typing begins to gravitate more into something more like a conversation you might have on a porch, and less like a business proposal or term paper.

To me the informal conversation seems friendlier, and even entertaining.

I see that NBC is streaming the whole thing online for free this year.  So there is no excuse for burning the burgers, at least not because the commercials weren't timed right!  Just don't broil your iPad, I doubt warranty will cover fire damage.

Be safe out there & enjoy!

Amy has brought up something that might solve the display problem you are talking about, give a look-see and perhaps all will be well in the world.

Howdy Bill,  My Guitar guy just opens a door and steps out to the shop.... But the Luthiers in town usually will take a peek for free and give you an idea about cost without charge as well.  The going rate for a set-up with neck adjustment runs $45 which includes a new set of D'Addario strings in your favorite flavor.  If you want some of those exotic strings like Argentine or Thomastik, you'll have a small up-charge.  Fretwork is usually on an hourly rate, which is less than half what you would pay your car mechanic.  Be it cars or guitars, you will always get an estimate, and always need an appointment.  The good guys are busy around these parts, and seem to totally understand the value of customer service.
