Yup we got that pseudo-holiday upon us again..... some get a day off work, and some will attend one of the ceremonies that might be held to honor those in service to their Country.... or past service.
But take a minute out of whatever you are up to and consider what our warriors have earned for us through History, and above all, if you see someone passing by wearing some indication that they took the oath, pause and say Thanks. It means a lot.... Really!
As for me I will likely get together with a few fellow Marines tomorrow on the Corps' Birthday, and tip one to those of us that will not be attending this year. Semper Fi Brothers & Sisters.
Thank You for Your Service.

Okay, it was a long day of football. I'm really sorry I didn't just turn off the Green Bay/Chicago game around half time..... that whole second half was agonizing, like a "talk radio" show with boring graphics.
The first two well worth hanging in through with well fought games and physical through and through! Still a lot of football to go to the SB ahead,....
the rest of the season should be real interesting.
Tis a sad day in Corvallis! Can you believe that the Beavers "Couged-it" ? 39-32 at home this afternoon. Still waiting to hear if the Ducks got around Utah..... that one's still in play. Ducks Won handily.
And to think I'm a OSU Alum.......
On a brighter side, Sunday is a good day to stay indoors and watch NFL! 49rs, Seahawks, & Packers all have games televised sequentially in my area..... so I guess I'd best get to whipping up some dips for snacks!
Enjoy;

I'm from Funster's school of retailing..... good value at a good price from the onset and make the margin in volume and repeat business.
From a Retailer's standpoint, I would never sell my floor demo unless it was due to be replaced by the newest example of the brand, or if I was hard up to get my investment out of it. Selling the "floor" model just means that I would have to discount it (for reasons stated above), AND take the hit again when I replaced it with another new one from stock or order (which I likely will have paid more for due to inflation). That's not a win-win for me at any rate and just emboldens those who are ready and willing to drag out that stick and beat the heck out of you forever more.
Best just not to go there and let the sale walk out the door.
Here ya go Dino..... sorry they all look like premium channels, but I did see a couple that will be streamed online in the schedule.

I kinda suck at guitar, but I work at it any way.
I just enjoy music.
My friend, your memory is getting as bad as mine! You posted to this thread back in 2011.... but it wasn't just yesterday, so we all will understand.
Keep puffing on those reeds, and don't give up on the strings. Making music is something to enjoy for life (even if we can't always remember all the lyrics)!!
Done and DONE!!! Oregon votes by mail, so ours went out last week..... Just have to wait for the count.
Personally though, I'm for firing the whole lot and starting over. Haven't seen any serious work come out of chambers in a really long time.... just a bunch of school kids calling each other names and fighting among themselves. But then I guess that's Democracy ain't it?
But by all means make your voices heard! Cast that Ballot and keep in mind that the elected folks are working for you..... YOU are the boss and this is the best chance you have to let your Employees know they're doing a good job....or NOT!
VOTE !!!
This has been an interesting thread so far, all this talk about buying pups and such. But what about those little cheap tone caps? They have a life expectancy like a light bulb (albeit somewhat longer than most), and if you are not getting the sound you want to hear, perhaps a few bucks spent in changing those little critters would save you having to shell out serious ducats on new pickups.
There are some good articles out there to explain the particulars, but generally higher value capacitors darken the tone, and lower values brighten it.
That "muddy" sound just might be result of dumping the high frequencies to ground via a "dead" cap. Just a thought....
Oh Rugby's been around and has quite a following here in the States.... at least at the collegiate level. We have a local league and it draws crowds.
But until the sport is promoted at some higher level as entertainment and gets better sponsorship, rugby will be somewhere behind soccer waiting in the wings with lacrosse and cricket.(yes I live in a University town, and we have cricket too).
Soccer is finally coming into it's own at a Professional level and seeing enough revenue to be a contender with Football (American), Baseball, Basketball, and Hockey...... maybe we just have too many choices.?.

I'm going to take a guess here, not knowing what genre of music you are seeing this in. My guess is that you are listening and seeing jazz chording where there are a lot of 9th, Maj7, and b5 chord patterns used (Justinguitar.com has a pretty good video explaining what he calls "Jazz Grips").
The strings you mentioned are commonly muted in many voicings, and the notes played by others in the group, so hitting them with a plectrum is unnecessary.
like I said though it is only a guess.
Doug
**Edited** Duh! If I had fully read your topic heading I would have known it was Jazz, so you may disregard my opening sentence. It's late or early depending on which side of the planet you're on & I'm fatigued.... must be bedtime. DS
Well that was helpful...... I was able to locate the lyrics for you (which includes other info such as album etc.);

Now we can look for some music to go with !!!
Doug
You are correct! Notes are notes, even though guitar Tab only references where on the fretboard the "note" is located, it indicates nothing about what note it is. Perhaps a "cheat sheet" showing the notation on a guitar fretboard could get you around that and there should be something in Jerome's sticky (in Music Theory) that you could possibly print.
I did find it interesting to note that some chords of tension cannot be done on the Dulcimer (Maj7,7,9, etc.), but they are not essential, particularly when played in accompaniment with a wider strung instrument (such as guitar).
Thanks for Sharing;

It's a beauty Russell.... but we are still waiting for that demo (and the scathing review online). Been holding off on checking out the NGD posts in an effort to prevent GAS, but curiosity got the better of me.
Congrats!
Doug
Congratulations on your new "baby" Roger..... only 6 years old and I'm sure has a good new home!!!
Enjoy;
Doug
Who is the Group or Artist that recorded it, and the approx. date of the recording? Just the song title or piece of lyric is a bit scant for a serious search.
Please update and advise.
Thanks
It was sure a good weekend for Football around these parts. Blustery, rainy, and a good lineup on the tube.....
Sorry Russell about the Pack! But it was sure a bunch of Pure D matchups. Nobody could make any yards on the ground or in the air, seemed everytime you looked there was a sack or pick or incomplete, or a rain of yellow flags on the field. Offensive coaches were tearing their hair out, and if it weren't for the special teams...... it could have been more boring than Baseball.

And you say the Party is at Roger's? So who's bringing the Cake?
Happy Birthday All !!!
To start playing Guitar!
After all these years, it turns out we all should have started much earlier in life. So for those of you who have not had a good dose of "Humble" today..... check out this fellow: www.youtube.com/watch?v=TChp3L1kZ4o
Makes me just want to burn all my guitars and take up an instrument that I could have been good at when I was his age..... the Kazoo!
Enjoy;
Doug
Hi Gertie and Welcome to Chordie!!
Don't know anything about your musical experience and education so far, but this might be of some use, especially if you are trying to dig a little deeper into the theory aspect of your instrument. http://www.everythingdulcimer.com/artic … 0V1.01.pdf
By all means let us know a bit more about yourself and get to know the community, there are bound to be a few folks out here better able to address your questions. Especially in the Music Theory and Other string Instruments sections..... but this is a good place to start. Welcome aboard!

I was on the other night until somewhere around 3AM my time, and Russell was just a couple hours behind me..... we got hammered in the between time, and he punished at least a half dozen between sips of his morning brew. You never know how it's going to go, but I know I appreciate all the reports that members are putting up for us. Thanks Folks!! It really makes it easier to hunt 'em down when they're hiding in the brush with a flag tied to their tails!
Everyone's keeping up the pressure, but these Spam-Slime ain't too bright it seems... slow learners. But I guess if they were, they'd have real jobs!

Yes I had a busy morning banning and deleting just another normal day
It all comes down to what time of day you happen to have that cup, I suppose.
I see a business opportunity here..... might be a good time to "corner the market" on resonator guitars!!
And a question: Insurance??? What kind of liability can a band have that requires insurance? Hearing loss, promotion of public drunkeness, electrical fire, amplifier collapse, insanity due to dischordant progression, loss of sleep, hangover, unintentional pregnancy,....... What??!!!
Just Wonderin'
Doug
I would vote for Chordiefest..... sounds more Continental, and somehow festive! Brings to mind a party atmosphere, food, friends, music, laughter, warm ale and chilled cider. Darn I wish I could attend!
Sorry about your employment "gap" buddy. Everyone I know in the Aviation Industry are retired anymore (like me). But I still have my Aerospace Workers and Machinists Union Card! The Union should be able to come up with a couple of leads for you, if you are a member, otherwise you are kinda hanging out there doing the networking thing. But like you said, the pay is not as good with the smaller FBOs, on the other hand they don't outsource like the big boys do which might be why you find yourself in this state.
Keep your "chin up" and I'm sure something will come along for you, hopefully without having to relocate.
Take Care;
Doug
