I'm committed all day on Sunday earning an archery coach certification.  You're close enough that I could come up Friday and part of Saturday.

As for competence - just so many phrases.

"Not the sharpest knife in the drawer..." also works as "Not the sharpest tool in the shed..."
"Elevator doesn't reach the top floor..."
"Sharp as a bowling ball..."
"Dipstick doesn't reach the oil..."
"A few ounces short of a pound..."
"A couple eggs short of a dozen..."

As for appearance,
"He/She resembles the south end of a north bound mule."
"Ugly (or homely) as a mud fence."

In the south, it's all summed up with "Bless her/his heart."

Appalachians have some interesting phrases, though it's not foreign to America.

"Red up" means to tidy an area.
"I wouldn't trust him as far as I can throw a bull by the tail."
"Mad enough to spit cotton."
"If it was a snake, it'd have bitten you."
When something is common, "You can't swing a dead cat without hitting" it.
Dead cats come in to play when being innovative too, "There's more than one way to skin a cat."  I hope it's dead anyway.

That's my birthday weekend, but I have an archery thing going on.  If the archery thing falls through, I'll likely come around.  I had a ball at your place last year.  A great time and a wonderful host.  This year, though, I'll bring a tent and throw it up - regardless of gravel.  It turns out that I'm skilled at destroying tents.

I've played Topdown's CA and was impressed by it. Excellent bass response. Also, when you amplify them, it's very much a WYSIWIG situation.  They sound more acoustic-y than many wooden acoustics, I think because there's a great deal more control in the production process.

That's what music is for - having fun.  Thanks for the tune!

As for crisis of confidence, I understand that.  I've written several songs that I put a lot of effort into but just couldn't bring myself to play or like.  They weren't "good enough."  I kind of wish our Songwriting section was better at critique, though I like that it's so strong on encouragement.  I haven't felt that I can put up a song there and get an accurate read on what could be improved with it, even when I know there's something wrong with it.

Two songs I've written, but have been lost to the paper shuffle in my office are in that boat.  One is about my father-in-law and is titled "I'll Be Fine," and the other other is about a broken down bull rider I knew who had a good heart but did a lot of bad things all stemming from his upbringing in which he never had the chance to learn right from wrong.  He drank himself to death ten or so years ago.  He's one of those guys where you have to believe that if God has any mercy at all, he'll have been brought home and made whole.  Anyway, that one is called "A Bottle Of Friday Night."

I've never performed them, and only shared them with Dirty Ed because I'm confident he'll give honest but still encouraging feedback.  Neither is up to snuff, and both have been more or less lost and will need to be rewritten at this point.

I'm glad you've got your wheels back under you.  Stay on the good foot.

I'm really glad you had a good vacation Jx3.  You had one coming after all you've been through in recent years.

Awww shucks.  Tweren't nothing.

Seriously.  I did nothing.  Someone else got all the mess before I logged in.  So my thanks too.

Lonnie Donegan - Probably the only guy to have a grammy winning song that is very popular campfire fodder.  Hard to imagine how many campfires "Battle of New Orleans" has been played around.  My brother and I used to listen to "Chewing Gum" when we were knee high to grasshoppers.

You'd be a site for sore eyes anytime Amy, sweaty and covered in paint or clean and freshly dressed.

Ha ha ha.  Loved it.

I can't handle that level of responsibility.

I think Jimmie's song is over my pay grade.

I'm going to try and put something together for Knocking on Heaven's Door.

Wondering if anyone knows of a quick tutorial for Audacity or whatever the software is that Russell likes.  I might try something a little different with this one.  Then again, I may not.

I may still give you a call and see how things are going.  If you don't answer, I'll assume they're going loud.  :-)

I hope you get a great deal of pleasure from your new guitars.

Wishing I could be there.

Topdown's Rule #1 applies.  "If it sounds good, it is good."

WHY WHY WHY? What have you done to this site? Use to love this site....
Please add more ads!!!
Can barely get to the music. Very sad. Good buy Chordie.

Being as that's the first post, shouldn't be it "Hello?"

Also, without the ads, it wouldn't be goodbye Irish1, but goodbye Chordie.  The ads are all along the side edge, and there are no video ads with sound the way there are on other sites (especially UG).  The sound and video are bandwidth hogs, and having sound play over me when I'm trying to learn a new song is just frustrating.

So, this idea that ads are bad is going to leave Irish1 rather disappointed.  Every site with decent features is either a pay site or has ads.
