I put together a video of the Gibson Memory cable and described what I use it for, as well as some of the features. The background music was recorded with the cable and edited in one of my video software programs to splice several separate impromptu jams to sum it up "I like it" ![]()

Re: Windows Users Critical Security Update (5 replies, posted in Chordie's Chat Corner)
Greetings Chordians!
For all you Windows users there is a critical update that you should all install at your earliest. REALLY!!
https://support.microsoft.com/kb/3011780
The short of it is that if exploited it could be used to hijack your Admin Account and force your web administrator to completely recompile their web server.
Be Safe out there!
Doug
I just received an update but this was not included and begs the question why not?

Does that bad boy turn on and off automatically or once you stop playing does it produce a lot of empty space?
I am not sure I will go back to the link and take a peek I am thinking there must be an on and off but I will check it

Re: Gibson memory cable (18 replies, posted in Chordie's Chat Corner)
Cool Russell, I think we looked at them earlier in the recording section. So you pulled the trigger! Well I thought they were neat, but wish they'd built it with a male and female jack only, and in a module that you could just plug into your guitar and use stand alone (on an AE) without dragging all the cable around. Then you could use your own cable if needed in whatever length you like with or without an amp.
Let us know how you like it and particulars like battery life etc.. Review Please for others that might be considering.
Doug they make male female adapters I have a few there not that expensive either what is nice about this is it is so portable that in summer you can go to your favorite spot and play your acoustic electric and save the good ideas. I will give an assessment. I did look for this topic but missed it had to google it I seriously considered this option the other day when I was jamming and played a cool idea but forgot it and at the time was just plain tired after so I didn't record it and it was lost. keep ya posted ![]()

I got me one of these today I do practice a lot and a lot of good ideas are lost or just riffs so I picked this up its a 6GB memory device that records several hours of just jamming out, I find that sometimes I hit a good idea that I like but by the time I turn on my recorder I forget it and its lost, not anymore just jam to your hearts delight and plug it into your recorder when done it will transfer everything you played. very cool ![]()

Re: Accelerated fret wear with Elixir strings ? (13 replies, posted in Guitars and accessories)
Honestly Doug they still sounded good my other guitars have ernie ball slinky 9s and I replace them frequently I will be intrestesd to see how the cobalts compare soundwise they are ok but perhaps not as bright as the elixirs when new . The elixirs seemed to mellow as they aged .
I think if it sounds good and stays in tune then it works for you, I myself buy by the dozen Xavier from guitarFettish and they are excellent strings I don't gig out as often but practice an hour or two each day and change about every 2 weeks or so only because I like the crisp clean sounds and new strings sustain longer. ![]()

Re: NEW LINEUP (43 replies, posted in Electric)
True story: When I first came to LA I found a job at Merrill Lynch and Pierce stock exchange as a runner on the floor my first day on the job I was driving to work the smog was bad and my eyes started watering and I went through a red light a cop pulled me over and gave me a ticket but since I was from out of state and had no money to pay the fine I was put in jail for ten days in Beverly Hills, so here I am in with hardened criminals in a cell holding area one of the "guests" inquired what I was in for after telling me he was arrested fro attempted murder I told him I went thru a red light and couldn't pay the fine and he looked at me weird like and asked the jailer to go to his locker and bail me out never saw him again sure glad to be out of there,

Just watched some YouTube entries featuring your Alesis, Russell, and I gotta say how impressed I am with the sound of it. There are a lot of very cheezie sounding drum machines out there, but yours has some very authentic tone. Nice rig!
yes amazing the years that have passed since it came on the market and it still remains one of the best I got mine from Sweetwater for $149.00 new they were around $260.00 but fortunately the price dropped in time could be a holiday special either way I got it at the right cost. I spent about 2hrs working with my LP today and am totally impressed with the SOUND and ease of fingering worth every penny I did put some hybrid strings on and love the low .046 E string feeling good about playing slide on it I will do a video ![]()

We are blessed with some good weather,I like the Big Sur area the best I used too go camping there alot. I never saw a pinks chili dog. The L.A. area has a real bad smog problem too this day. I really do not like the big cities anyway.
Pinks is in LA I don't remember the street but if anyone types in pinks hotdogs there is bound to be a location perhaps if I am curious enough I will, I did drive from vegas to LA just to bring back a dozen or so in ice they are that good lol If LA is anything like it was when I lived there that's enough reason not to go back. ![]()

Re: Alesis SR-16 (5 replies, posted in Recording)
I have been having a blast improvising rhythms one of the cool things about the SR 16 is you can start with one drum and add as you go the SR quantizes the beats for you and you also can build your own kit and change all the pads to whatever drum you want or percussive instrument.

Kinda sounds like my days in the winterbut I got sunshine now and almost 70 so I go out as much as I can. I would stay in more if it was as cold as they say it is up there. I still got too mow my lawns and rake the leaves ( damn ).!!
I lived in California for some time, LA and Frisco Hermosa beach and big sur I still think Pinks chili dogs are the best in the U.S. and I have tasted just about all of them from Chicago to NY when I was traveling in bands. don't miss the smog

Re: Barre chords - eurika moment... (12 replies, posted in Acoustic)
I have used the same method to play a bar F or G or any bar F position and it works for me I use the back side of my 1st finger to bar but only apply pressure on the low and high E strings the rest is just a 1st position open E chord on the 5th 4th and 3rd strings, and on a bar C chord (3rd fret) I use my 1st finger on the A string 3rd fret and my 4th not my 3rd finger to play the B G D strings on the 5th fret it is less stressful on your hand and an easier way to fret this chord. which also works for a Bb or B, C, (C# Db) D (D# Eb) E F (F# Gb) and finely G on the 10 fret but that's as far as I care to go with it and the same with the bar F position as you get passed the 8th fret it becomes more strenuous to maintain that position and I wind up switching to a 4 string type F positon after the 8th fret.

That was great russ, the keyboard player looks a lot like a little younger John Goodman. I thought steve l did this with a Gibson les paul.
I remember the keyboard player as a skinny guy with glasses from the early videos he was playing a Hammond B3 and the drummer looks different too
