Tried Elixers on mine, and had problems with them peeling the coating after just a few weeks. Tossed the notion of a coated string (partially because the plastic sounded a bit dull to me) and changed to Thomastik flat wound strings. Really smooth and although a bit more expensive they last and feel silky without squeak.
Just my opinion but adding weight to a string that doesn't enhance the sound, even an ultra thin coating is kinda going the wrong way round.

Did anybody notice this post is from 2006 and just got bumped??
It's kind of a historical note that reminds us that the forums are only like 8 years old..... come so far in such a short time!
Cool!

Good to know Beamer. I have a Skype account somewhere.... been so long I forgot the password! Tried video with Roger Guppy last time and the delay was something in the vicinity of several seconds...... kinda like video chatting to the moon!

Howdy Easy,
I doubt that it would be practical to put all of the tunes available on Chordie into an audio format and the storage it would require would be unreal.
There is a Chordie.com Youtube Channel where some stuff is located and many members have their own channels or accounts usually linked to their signature or personal webpage. Some have Soundcloud accounts, some have Reverbnation, some have????? Have to be careful though about links that are posted because of the rules concerning commercial postings as advertising..... but if there are any questions they are usually vetted and approved. We also have to use caution about possible violations of copyright, so most everything in the audio/visual venue is done off-site and certainly not hosted anywhere on Chordie Servers.
There is even a group here that has regular Skype Jam Sessions. Although I should say that the lag times halfway around the world can at times be tedious. I'm sure that there would be others along to chime in on what is all going in that department, so hang in there and Thanks for Asking!!

Sorry Buddy,
I too went looking for The Sunrays' rendition of Andrea..... no luck. The video on you tube was recorded on American Bandstand, where everything was sync not live, so nobody was performing actual chords. Trying to get an idea of what was used is like trying to derive something from an "air-guitar" competition.

You have a good grasp of things Phill, but you mentioned that the last set you bought it seemed the other way around? My guess is that that latest addition (pair?) might have been wired differently. Normal is wired in parallel, but they can also be wired in series.... series wiring adds the sum of ohmage rather than halving.
So you could have two 4 Ohm speakers wired so the resulting resistance equals 8 as opposed to 2. Usually you find the series/parallel wiring useful when building cabinets where you have multiple speakers for accurate sound rendering. Base, Mid, & Tweet.... there will also be high and low pass filters in the line to protect them each from waveforms that are beyond their capacity to "make" without physical damage.
That's kinda why I mentioned the 16 Ohm home stereo speakers.... because they are available cheaply used, and can be wired in such a way as to make them compatible with your PA system to get by on until you have funds for upgrade.

Sorry you missed it Dino, when I tuned in at the end of the 3rd, the score was 31-0..... I hung around long enough to see a Chicago field goal in answer to one by the Hawks to get to 34-3. Then it was supper time.
From what I saw, there is talent out there on both teams. Just not all coming together yet but they will be trimming the rosters. The guys were doing 100% to show they were worth keeping, so it was a good game from an entertainment point of view.
I was just going to keep my mouth shut about the Seahawks Bears game...... but naaah.
I was really embarrassed ....... for Chicago.
That's All;

Greetings Hans,
Like I said you have a good eye! Unfortunately I don't know where the charts come from.... so I doubt that I can edit it to make corrections.
But having said that, and thanks for your post..... someone with greater power may see this and be able to correct it.
Welcome to Chordie and the forums. There is a friendly bunch of like minded folk hanging around who will I'm sure be pleased to meet you.
Wander down to the Chat Corner and introduce yourself to the gang!!

Welcome to Chordie!!
You do have a sharp eye, there is an error.... the chord chart labeled as E7b9 is actually the E Dominant 9 (1st position). What is labeled as E9 is something entirely different..... but surely not an E# anything as there are no sharp E nor flat F in Western (Euro.) music. Fretless instruments are able to produce something that might be considered such (and wind instruments) but not a guitar.
E9 consists of: E, G#, B, D, F#

We are just hoping that he manages to get on the ground! News is reporting another eruption of one of the Volcanos there..... last time it messed up air travel all over Europe due to the dust plumes.
BGD could be either sitting in some airport on the way waiting for a flight (camping), or wind up with an extended Holiday by not being able to get a return connection.
Fishing and Diving would be the high points.
Have a good vacation BGD! Take lots of photos etc.... the Geology alone makes it worth the trip, but SCUBA? Really just because there is so much geothermal it does not mean that the water will be much above ice cold.

Not Customarily.... not sure why it was down, but it seems to have effected everyone.

Thanks for the assist Russell, I don't make a habit of posting photos, so it didn't work the way I thought.
This way is much better!

Thanks for posting! Welcome to the Forums.
There is some stuff of theirs out in web-land... give this link a try.

Found this that kind of shows what's going on inside an LP.... depending on the model:
photobucket.com/albums/ww49/XKolera/Guitar/23082011266.jpg
That could change the weight considerably considering that the body is something like 36mm at thinnest cross section.

Grah1 wrote:I sold my les paul about 7 yrs ago found it way too heavy but curiously the other night when I was doing the sound for my friends I was called up on stage to play a few numbers and I used a les paul studio model this felt about half the weight of my old one .
Watched a documentary about Les Paul, and curiously the LP was originally designed as a neck through with hollow "wings", which contributed to the signature sound. Later in production, there seems to have been a change into a solid body which made the instrument substantially heavier. The SG (Gibson "Solid Guitar") was intended to be a solid plank from the start, unlike the LP that evolved into one. I think (and it is only on opinion) the earlier "hollow" ones have better tone, but more costly to build.

Welcome to Chordie Joe!
I remember this song, seems to me that it was covered by The Fifth Dimension, Barbara Streisand, and several others back in the day.
this is just a guess and at my age memory might be questionable.... but you might fiddle around with this progression in 4/4 time and see if it's close:
F A7/E A7 Dm G7 C G7 C A7 Em7 C A7 Em7 A7 Dm A7
I could only find one cover on the old youtube... and between my memory and what I think I heard, this could be enough to let you figure it out.

Congratulations on your 40th Anniversary (just a few years behind you)!! Although I don't think I'll mention this one to the better half, but I'm pretty sure we'd not do something like this (heck some days we're not sure why we did it the first time).
No... really Honey it was just supposed to be a joke!........ Now put down that axe and we'll discuss this like adults.
Gotta Go!.... somethin's come up......

A Sad day for sure. Mr. Williams endured substance abuse, Bi-polar disorder with the associated bouts of depression, and more recently by-pass surgery.
Sorry to hear you're gone....... Nanu-Nanu.

Me too these days.... It's just a Summer thing I'm sure.
A few more months and the wet season starts and folks will want to be leaving earlier to batten down the hatches.
Enjoy while you can!!

Ride a unicycle?..... No.
Used to be pretty good at falling off one though.

Welcome to Chordie!!
As I understand it, Onsong is an App for iPad that organizes and displays music..... kind of like what Chordie does when you access your Personal Songbook via your iPhone or iPad.
Have you tried just doing that? I hear good things about it (even though I'm not exactly an iFan), you might have avoided paying for an application if it works well for you.
Welcome aboard!!

Hi Conor, Welcome to the Forums!!

Ohm's Law: Volts X Amps = Watts. simple algebra lets you solve for whatever value you are concerned with (generally you try to limit Amps. Amps is a another term for current, ). Why is that important? So you don't have to run huge conductors to your speakers in an effort to reduce heat and burning up your wires (or the house), not to mention that they are cheaper and easier to carry around.
I would say that most Amplifiers push voltage to the speaker array at around 1/2 of your mains, example: my little Fender measures 59 volts (actual, with my Fluke Voltmeter) Incoming line voltage hovers between 115-118 VAC here in the States. Higher the voltage, the lower the Amperage for the same Wattage output.
An interesting note: Most Home Stereo speaker cabs are 16 Ohms.... which explains the dainty wires you can easily hide without much fear of setting fires or getting yourself fried if you get across them when they are powered (still not recommended).
Hope I didn't thoroughly confuse anyone yet...
Doug
