Oh, and Seagulls are around $400, Martin DX and Ovation can be as "low" as $600, Guild has a few models in the $400 range but mostly around $600 to $800, and Takemines range as low as $400.  So, this "perfect" guitar I described should be able to sell WELL below $1,000.  Possibly half that.

000 size.  The body shape should be a bit wider at the butt and a bit narrower at the neck and have a radiused back.  It ought to snug up right against the player's body when laying on the "pick hand" thigh.
Cedar top for mellow.
Low action for easy barre chords.
Maybe a 12 fret.  Most campfire songs are strummers.
Single cut-away.
I'd think an engineered material for the back and sides would be good, to make it less flex-y.  Martin and Ovation both have engineered materials that work well in guitars.
I'd like to see a neck similar to the one on my Guild.  It's just a hair wider than "usual" and it's fairly flat.  If you take a Martin dreadnaught neck and a Yamaha classical neck, and those two necks have a love child that's about 4/5 Martin and 1/5 Yamaha, that'd be the neck.  This would make for easier flat-picking, but still support good finger-picking.  The material should be dynabond (or whatever that stuff is called - the plywood where all the layers are tone woods and the grain goes the same direction in all of them - very stiff and nearly impervious to humidity changes but still has the good feel of wood).
The fretboard can be an engineered material or some rock hard wood.
Good clean frets.
Tusq nut, bridge, and pegs.
Ebony peg holder thingymado where the bridge rests.  Because ebony wood is cool.
Brace that sucker to emphasize the low and mid.

I guess what I've described is more or less a Martin DX series, in 000 size, Takemine body shape, a Seagull top, and a Guild neck shape and bracing.

What have I said that would make you think eyes being on me would encourage gentlemanly behavior?  I am not above "hold my beer..."

Is there one in the making for this summer?

I had hoped there would be a couple, but the broader family has imposed itself in a way that is likely to make planning an event difficult.

Happy NGD.

I learned that one of the volleyball moms who was at our house yesterday evening is a musician. She apologized for being late to pick up her daughter by saying she was wrapped up in recording with a friend and lost track of time. Supposedly nothing was working on guitar so she switched to keyboards, and her friend who was playing percussion was having a hard time recovering from a stroke and couldn't find the beat.

I had no idea she was a musician! It turns out she had some Christian songs that were kind of a hit when she was a girl in the Phillipines. Some of the songs she wrote have been translated to Japanese and Spanish and are seeing a resurgance, so she's been approached to translate them to English. I told her I know someone who could help with bass and guitar and took her to my office. She was stoked!

I don't know if anything will come of it, but at least Zurfapaloozas have got a potential keyboardist.

That is SO Dirty Ed.  Your "bad Tuesday" came from getting "improved" work hours.  I'm laughing.

I'm not saying one way or another.  I did Skype in to one or two of the MeKidsBackyard Sessions.  I think Amy put the computer into a chair and had me in the rotation for an hour or so, while I barbequed and had a campfire (much smaller) in my own backyard.  Pretty soon we're going to wind up with multiple camera angles on satellite live feed using Channel 2 News surplus equipment.

Shenandoah would be fun. I'm not on RS  much anymore, but will give Hersch a call and check their timing.

That sounds about how fishing goes for Roger and Me, Dirty Ed.  It's not too uncommon for us to wind up at our favorite winery sipping on some red wine and fishing their lake.

Z, it should be under the section called "Song Requests" with the title, "Well, Dondra Wants To Request......". You'll need to scroll down, as it is one of my last posts.

Thanks

Ha ha.  Good story.  I found it (obviously).

Cool!

Great stories so far.  Good idea for a thread. I'll have to go check out Strummer's story on the other forum.

One season that I played double bass in a playhouse orchestra, I witnessed the most amazing feat of athletics and timing I ever expect to see.  The playhouse was in a converted barn. The orchestra pit was actually a loft. The stairs to the loft were in the wings stage right. To get to them, one had to cross the stage between a passage that ran behind seating and the stage right wings. The orchestra was supposed to be in position fifteen minutes before curtain...because there was no curtain.

One day, the orchestra was ready, all except our piano playing leader. As moments ticked by, and actors took position, he was still not around. As the time counted down, we were ready to start without him as the stage lights began to warm. Then, we saw him...all 5'3" slender as a willow branch ... running at full sprint up the passage. He couldn't go on stage, so he sprang up from this full sprint and launched. He grabbed the floor of the pit/loft and pushed. All in one fluid movement, he flew under the safety rail, tucked and rolled, somehow missing instruments, stands, and musicians in the cramped space. When he stood, he was at his piano playing the opening bars of the prelude. He soloed for a moment because we were all still in amazed shock at the witness of his astounding feat of strength and grace.

Good one on Toulouse.

I like Hank's music.  I don't like how Hank has become such a personality and symbol of some sort of Country Music Purity that I can say "Hank" and it's not weird.

I'll catch the biopic when it hits Netflix or Amazon.  I don't get to the movies often, and then it's usually to take my kids to see something they'll enjoy.

recent report - I've got positions 2 and 3 pretty well understood, with my fingers remembering them OK.  I haven't memorized which position is what note, yet, and not sure that I will beyond the roots.

Yesterday I was able to riff on some blues playing on Pandora, which was cool.

Beauty.

Women do seem to find Roger charming.  All that sincerity, friendliness, thoughtfulness, and optimism I guess.

Nah.  Probably just the accent.
