This song is about how our world seems have so much wrong with it, and to be heading in the wrong direction. It is also about how long ago, when I was much younger, I saw a world that seemed to be a pretty great place. If we could go back and change some of the things that went wrong we could fix this mess we are living in.

Stepping Through a Window By Jeff Gilpin

March 19th, 2011

Capo I

Verse 1

[C]Stepping through a window

A [F]picture of the past

A [C]doorway to a place I lived

Where [G]life moved much less [F]fast

There’s a [C]meadow green and growing

The trees [F]coming to bloom

I’ll [C]travel to that time and place

I [G]swear I’m coming [F]soon

Chorus 1

Where the [Am]people all are honest

And the [F]world is safe again

[C]Simple life abounds there

I’ll go [G]back there and be[F]gin

The [Am]life I should be living

The world I [F]should be living in

If I [C]only fix what’s has been broken

[G]What would happen [F]then [C]

Verse  2

Oh to [C]right the wrongs that people

Have [F]made in days long gone

[C]Fix those alterations

[G]Erase all the [F]wrongs

Or just [C]live back in those simple times

Be[F]fore that life was gone

For[C]get about what’s wrong today

[G]Yesterday where I be[F]long

Chorus 2

Where the [Am]air smelled much sweeter

When the [F]wind blew much less strong

[C]People smiled in happiness

And [G]everyone be[F]longed

We’d go [Am]out to seek the sunshine

And [F]go home safe at night

[C]Dream about tomorrow

And [G]everything was [F]right [C]

Verse 3

I [C]wish I had that window

[F]But my shades are drawn

[C]Things I only dream about

Or [G]write out in a [F]song

We live [C]in the world we live in

No es[F]cape from the malaise

I’ll [C]try to be that window

And to [G]bring back better [F]days

Chorus 3

[Am]Bring back those feelings

That there’re [F]better days to come

[C]Get rid of the feeling that

There [G]is no place to [F]run

[Am]Invest in our future

But [F]not forget the past

[C]Maybe bring the good things back

[G]Maybe make them [F]last [C]

Stuck in Ridiculous By Jeff Gilpin

March 8, 2011

Intro

Strumming G

Verse 1

[G]I woke up last Thursday

[C]On a Saturday [G]night

Drove down to the boardwalk

[A]And started a [D]fight

[G]Got thrown in the water

[C]Into a bunch of [G]ducks

Thought to myself, partner

[D]This royally [G]sucks

Chorus

So I’m stuck in ri[C]diculous

I’m stuck here a[G]gain

Forgot to re[D]member

Like learning to [G]swim

I’m stuck in ri[C]diculous

Been here all a[G]long

About as [D]silly as

A ridiculous [G]song

Verse 2

[G]Got out of the water

[C]Felt like a [G]beer

I had me a starter

[A]Improved my [D]cheer

[G]Drove on to my sisters

[C]But she wasn’t [G]home

So I sat all cold and wet and waited

[D]Sad and all a[G]lone

Chorus

Now I’m sitting on [C]lonely street

All by my lone[G]some

Nobody I [D]can meet

Even thou I want [G]some...[G7]one

If I go [C]elsewhere

Then maybe I’ll [G]find

Some interesting [D]people

To occupy my [G]time

Verse 3

So I’m [G]heading to Jimmy’s

For some [C]beer and some [G]wings

An a few shots of something

That’ll [A]make my ears [D]ring

[G]There’s aways a party

A [C]crowd's there for [G]sure

A night’s entertainment

[D]To keep my soul [G]pure

Chorus

Where they're stuck in ri[C]diculous

I'll be stuck there a[G]gain

Forgot to re[D]member

Like learning to [G]swim

I’m stuck in ri[C]diculous

Been here all a[G]long

About as [D]silly as

A ridiculous [G]song

Jeff by standard blues do you mean the progression of chords or a particular song? the reason I ask is there are many forms of the blues BB King,John lee Hooker even Led Zepp,Leo Kottke take the blues to another dimension.I currently am impressed with the background music for the TV show "The Closer" some very nice slide guitar work (I'm steeling the licks) or should I say borrowing lol

Yep - standard blues chord progressions...no song in particular...I would say you are being inspired by the work used on "The Closer" and doing your own thing with it...  smile

Tonight, I played so much my finger don't work any more for playing guitar...and that's a good night for me. I can think of plenty of night's it was too late for me to to play so I went to bed wishing I had played and usually I dreamed about playing. Any other of you folks share this feeling with me? I mean you played so much your fingers hurt too much to play any more...and that is a good night in my opinion.

Great job Russell. That is some pretty snazy video effects as well.

Hey Russ - More of the good riff work too please...that was sweet. I can't do it but I sure do love to listen. I would love to hear what you can do with improvising on a standard blues song and then throw in some of those vid effects to support the music.

I just set up my profile page on the Song Sprouts website which offers free profile pages for artists to promote their own music. You can only post up to 3 songs per profile. It's free and it lets you promote on your facebook, twitter and/or myspace pages. It's just another place to get your music noticed. Just google "song sprouts" any you should find it easy enough.

I was checking out the Chordie top 100 and saw 2 songs from my highschool days. Bluer than Blue was one of them and Always and Forever was the other. Its funny how just reading a song title can make you remember moments that happend many MANY years ago like they were yesterday.

Hey Chris,

Here is what I did and what I think the chords are:
Went to a lyrics site (no chords to be found):
http://www.answers.com/topic/i-will-dream
Went to hear the song (youtube works):
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HSyf9ad_Xdw
And I listened...to me it sounds like F Dm Bb and so on....except it's played with a capo on the 1st fret I believe...that should get you started.  I kind of like to figure out the chords for songs I like and can't find...to me it's kind of fun...sometimes it is easy...sometimes not but let me know if you think I'm right.

This is a great song by the way...

"Martha My Dear" (The Beatles) and "Get Down" (Gilbert O'Sullivan) were both about dogs; but are you looking to mourn a deceased dog or to celebrate, in general, a dog's life?  If you're ready to chuckle about it a little, there's also The Monkees' "I'm Gonna Buy Me A Dog."

Sorry to hear about your buddy.

Thanks Tom - She was a great dog and I really just wanted to celebrate her, all dogs and what they mean to dog lovers.

A friend of mine told me about Tony Lucca was good and Amazon was giving away some of his music. He is a pretty good musician and singer in my opinion. You can get one of his albums (mp3 format) right now at amazon. If you like acoustic singer songwriter style you might like his music.
