Hi I live in north wales, uk, and I find it hard to find places to play, I have heard of booking agents, but know nothing about them.
Anyone got any advice regarding them or there own good ways of finding bookings.

OK I think it is time to let myself loose on the world.
I would like to post a vidio on utube in the hope of finding more gigs, it is my intention to send emails to places that have live music, with a link to my vidios.
So Russel (I know that you will have lots of good advice) and everyone else what do I do.
I have access to a local recording studio where they do some vidio work, would this be the best way to go, or should I just set up a web cam and do it myself.
Other points,
should I record at a gig, or at home, or in the studio,
should I make it into a "music Vidio", or just me and the music.
Please give me any advice that you can, this is a big step for me and I want it to be cool, not crap
Thanks to the all in advance, I know that you will help me.

sing along to songs that you like, you will find that some sound better when you sing them, this is your key.
also listen to a range of bands and again sing along, you will find some of them also sing in your key

Hi everyone.
I have a Sony seperates system, and true it say's that it wont play home recorded CDs.  But was thinking, I just put my music into the Meda Player and burn to CD, they will play in the car, but skip and jump on the Sony, so it will play them, of a fashion.
I was thinking that if I used a better burner, say Nero, would I get better results or not.
So what is the best (deepest burning ?) recorder to get.
Thanks TonyBlue

It is just the job.
I can play the Boss through it + guitar + mic, and I still have two inputs left to use if I have a need.
Thank you to you all.

I am still thinking about a looping pedal

TonyBlue

Hi SouthPaw,

Thanks for the links, and now I can see the use that this pedal could be put to, I do a simler thing if I feel that I'm going down well.  I ask the crowd if they would like to make a record, they pick a style, say 12 bar blues, and I put down the rhyum track followed by the bass track, they we make up words to fit, normaly quite rude, and I play l a lead as a turn around, this can go on for some time, if you have anyone good with words joining in.
I will get the RC 2 loop pedal and give some parctice at home, but it look like I could use something like this.

In answer to kajima, if you play the riff, but on the last note, instead of playing the note play the chord (ie G ) you will get a soomther sound.
TonyBliue

Hi SouthPaw41L.
I have loved  reading your post on gigging, I wish I knew how you use a loop pedal.
I have followed your links, but still don't understand, please could you help,
Do you start off a song just playing rythem guitar, loop it and then put a bass line on top, before singing or playing a lead guitar ?
If so would it not make the songs very long.
In truth SouthPaw, you are my hero

Do you have this item?
All I want to be able to plug in my Boss with the backing trcks (like a MP3 player). Plug in my guitar and also plug my mic in as well, and then play the lot of them through my amp, ans have control of all the volume levels.
Wolud this unit be able to do this ?
If so you have solved my problem and at avery good price, but regardless I really thank you for the information

I hope that someone can help me.
At the moment I play small gigs using an eletric guitar playing through a Boss micro recorder in to a small amp, I pre-record a backing track, bass and rythem guitars which I play over. I sing without any amp.
The problem I am starting to have is that it is becoming to be quite popular and the rooms are getting bigger, so now I really need to amp up my voice, but I have no inputs left.
I have been told that I need a PA system, but as I only get paid £20 - £30 a gig I don't have the money to spend on more equipment.
Anyone know of another way around this ?, or do I need a PA
Thanks TonyBlue

Hi Steve.
The party / gig, is at the Royal in Colwyn Bay, a very rough pub, so play well.
I spoke to Chris & Steve who did not know about it, in the end they think it maybe someone called Russell who is holding a open mic night.
I will try to get the others from TAPE to come along, but I don't think Chris will be able to make it.
See you on the 28th

I use home made backing tracks,
Fistly it was because I could no find a group to play with, but now it is much better for me to use a backing track, as if anyone mucks up, it is me.

I find that I can play small gigs alone, just me the guitar and the track amp.
I have had no problems playing this way, and to date, I have always been asked back.

True you could record the whole thing and lip sink, but I am sure that it would show, all I record is a drum beat, and the rythme guitar.  During the sing parts I also play the rythme part and solo over it in the solos.  All the vocals are live as is the guitar I am playing.

What is the problem with this ?

It get's me out and about playing and earning a small amount

Hi Steve,
Yes I do like to get paid, it beats having to pay for the space when you play, but it is hard to find, but I still keep on looking.
We meet on a Thursday in old colwyn from 6 till 7.30, you and your friend would be made welcome, if you wanted to come regularly we all pay £25 per month.  The day after I have a gig for one hour which will pay me £50 plus £10 expensess, I am sure that you can see my point.
Or I could come out to you and we could have a beer,
TonyBlue
