Thanks Ark, Russell and Roger. Russ - I'm starting to get a backlog of songs again but I will let everyone know when I get some new ones up. Roger - I wrote this one before last winter but we had a humdinger of a storm here last year, actually 2 of them. I am hopeful we will be spared this winter. Ark- We have been having some dry hot days in the DC area lately so finishing this kind of gave me a little relief.

Hey Jim - This sounds great...I've always been a fan of minor chord songs and I like what you have done with this one. Keep 'em coming.

Thanks Dino. Yeah Pete, I think there was a little hormonal imbalance issue looking back. It’s good song material though for which I'm grateful.

Hey Pete - Thanks, I hope she likes it. I knew a Noreen when I was in the Air Force. For some reason everyone was scared of her because she would be having a great time one minute and yelling at someone the next. I guess that's why I chose the name for this song.

This is just a fun little couple’s fight song that maybe many of us have experienced before. I know I sure have been guilty of saying something stupid when I was trying to calm someone down. It usually has the reverse effect. This songs should be played and sung fairly fast but I’ll let you all work it out.

Settle down Noreen By Jeff Gilpin

September  10th, 2010

Intro

Alternately finger picking or strumming A7 then A

Verse 1

Won’t you [A7]settle down No[A]reen

I don’t [A7]like the side you’re [A]showing

[A7]You don’t have to [A]be so mean

Be[A7]sides we gotta get [A]going

Please No[D]reen tune it down now

Just a notch or two

I [A7]know you had e[A]nough of me

And [A7]lord I’m through with [A]you

But now we’ve [D]got to get home

And I don’t want to fight all night

But [A7]I’ll not leave you [A]sitting here

[A7]That just wouldn’t be [A]right

Please No[E]reen [D]

You don’t have to be so [A]mean

Verse 2

[A7]Settle down No[A]reen

I [A7]think you said e[A]nough

[A7]Folk all a[A]round us

Under[A7]stand that you are [A]tough

Hey No[D]reen I get your point now

Forget about mine

But we [A7]have to get on [A]out of here

I [A7]think it’s closing [A]time

Won’t you [D]settle down Noreen

I’ve heard it all before

[A7]Flapping gums and [A]spitting vile

Don’t [A7]want to hear no [A]more

Please No[E]reen [D]

You don’t have to be so [A]mean

Verse 3

[A7]Okay, okay No[A]reen

I [A7]think I’ve given [A]up

[A7]I just called [A]you a cab

I’m [A7]leaving in my [A]truck

[D]Maybe when you settle down

We can sort this out

[A7]Or okay then [A]maybe not

Now [A7]you don’t have to [A]shout

But [D]honey I am out of here

It’s pointless for me to stay

Al[A7]right I’m shutting [A]up now

Said [A7]all I have to [A]say

[E]Maybe tomorrow or maybe not

[D]We can work it out Noreen

But [E]Noreen [E7] [D]

Try not to be so [A]mean [A7]

I see sheet music and chords out there but not tabs. Sorry, but Google it if your want the sheet music and you can turn that into a tab from there.

I wrote the lyrics to this song back on the 7th January in 2008, which must have been a pretty cold day I guess. I have been slow getting back to it but I finally did and I kind of like how it turned out. I hope you all do too.

Thanks you all.

Amy, I have a lot of respect for stay at home moms. I think that is one of the toughest jobs in America today but also one of the most important. Hang in there. Meanwhile I will keep my chin up and stay hopeful. I had 3 pretty good interviews last week and I think I will be getting a call for another one this coming week.

Hey Geo & Phil - Thanks very much. I know so many are in my shoes and have been there a lot longer than I have. For those of you who haven't, this royally sucks. I have been steadily employed since 1979 and I have always been told I do a great job. On the up side, this lay off did get me off the fence to start my masters program. I have been playing my guitar every day and God bless it. I would have gone nuts already if not for my 6 string.

Thanks Ark - I have been hearing that a lot lately as well as "everything happens for a reason". I'm still waiting for that reason and that other door to open.

Funny song Jim - Very creative lyrics and a good tune to go along with it. Sounds like a great open mike / beer drinking song.

This song is near and not so dear to my heart but I guess it’s better to write it out than keep it in. Anyway, it's a good Labor Day song for today's world.

The Layoff By Jeff Gilpin

[G]Get out close the door

[D]Take off that stupid [C]Hawaiian shirt

It’s [A]how I handle adversity

[Bm]All that I go through

Chorus

So [G]tomorrow I’ll wake up [D]late

[G]Maybe take a little [D]break

I’m [A]tired of telling my [G]story

[A]Tired of all the [G]worry

Tired of [A]hearing how we sure could [G]use you

If [Bm]only our pro[A]posal [G]wins

[D]Tired but I [A]have to go on

Go on [G]searching

Verse 2

[D]It’s an odd feeling when they [C]walk you

[G] Out the door

[D]Hearing what a great [C]job you did

From [G]folks you won’t see any more

[D]Been getting emails and [C]calls

[G]Asking how it’s going

[D]Saying [C]nothing yet

[G]Hope no fear is showing

Pre-chorus 2

[A]Loosing track of interviews

[G]Some quite promising

[Bm]Comes down to the same old thing

[A]Waiting for the call

For the [G]offers that never come

[A]But all you can do is wait

[Bm]No place to run

So [G]tomorrow I’ll wake up [D]late

[G]Maybe take a little [D]break

I’m [A]tired of telling my [G]story

[A]Tired of all the [G]worry

Tired of [A]hearing how we sure could [G]use you

If [Bm]only our pro[A]posal [G]wins

[D]Tired but I [A]have to go on

Go on [G]searching

I have some friends who live right by a lake in Florida. Many alligators live in that lake but they still swim in it when the weather's nice. They swear it’s a life changing experience. I guess what I'm saying is the songwriting waters may be scary but go ahead and dive in anyway...you'll be better for it.

Hey Ark, Robert and Roger - I'm waaaaaay behind in my recording but I will try and make time. My "recording studio" (aka basement) has been taken over by my Daughter, Son (err)in-common-law, and grandbabies so I will need to relo up to my office (aka the guest bedroom I took over once the basement got the new tenents).

Hey Ian - I do that too. There are quite a few song books with many songs I either forgot about or never hear of. I remember when I first found chordie I would only browse by songs or artists. I was missing out on a ton of great songs by doing that. Thanks goodness I've changed my ways.

I've noticed lately that I have developed a habit of perusing the top 100 songs looking for some old songs or new songs or songs I have not heard but others found interesting. I have been fortunate enough to have found some real gems in there, the latest an old Dylan song, A Simple Twist of Fate. Some are way screwed up on how they should be played but even in those I dig a little and find out how it goes and if it works out put it in my hidey hole of songs to come back to later. It give me a tidbit of pleasure to find these sort of like a old guy with a metal detector on the beach who finds quarters, dimes and nickels along with the rest of the metallic beach trash. Does anyone else have this habit or am I just weird? Maybe a little of both.  smile

I'm on here all the time but I don't post near as much as I did in the past. Lots of "stuff" going on in my life now that I'm dealing with. I check my moderator forums when I'm on but I admit I'm pretty easy on the posts.

Alright Otto - I went looking and realized I really don't like this song very much. I mean from my guitar player's persepctive it is not my cup of tea. So, I recommend if you want to play it you should give it a shot and try to figure out this song on your own. Just remember that the chords will follow the base track so listen for that and you should be fine. Good luck
