I bought my grandson a white, new looking, Fender Squier Strat from a friend with a nice little practice amp with built-in effects - all for $150 U.S.
The guitar has a nice neck, low action, is super easy to fret and the pickups sound like Eric Clapton's Strat I heard on u-Tube. This is a nice guitar for a beginner. It is easy to play and sounds great. I haven't compared it with a $4,000 Strat but I think we got a good deal.

What I found I like about Cordie, is you get to hear from others who are looking for the same thing you are, so mostly, you can trust what's being said. I'm still looking for a good set of DVD's. I know there out there somewhere. Until then I'll keep practicing what I already know and pickup what I can from others on Cordie.

Although I have never used them, Homespun has a good reputation for instructional CD's / DVD's in the acoustic guitar arena at least. You may want to check them out.

Isn't the internet great? Where else could you get free guitar lessons from James Taylor?!?!
I'm trying to learn the guitar, Don't know much yet. But I must be really living in the dark because I have no idea what guitar hero is.
I tried the Claude Johnson stuff but found that to be a mistake. Now I'm very skeptical about buying any beginner series off the internet.
Any suggestions on a (REAL/PROVEN) beginner course I can look into without getting burned?

Congrats to Canada! I only watched about 10 mins each of the 1st and 2nd, but what I saw was some fast paced, up and down hockey. Great fun to watch. Now go beat the Russkies for the Gold!
I'd like to watch, but I don't believe it is televised here in the Southern US - at least not on basic cable. I'll see if I can find an internet feed to watch. It's gonna be one of those nights where there are 3 sporting events that I want to watch all playing at the same time. Go Va Tech, Hurricanes and USA!!
Thats awesome Pix - Like I said, I need practice. I'm OK on the 5th and 6th strings, but need to think about 2,3,4.
Try master level - it gets quite a bit more challenging.
