Just curious as to where you call home? If you don't want to give the exact location that's fine but how about sharing your general location. It would help those of us that want to organize a possible get together to determine a convenient central location. That is, if we have enough members close to each other to do so.

Monroe Stock in Monroe NC would be great for this area! They even had Tommy Emmanuel there last year! It would provide plenty of music related entertainment and yes there's a river close by with camping and excellent fishing...lol Actually I fish these waters quite often and they offer some of the best blue and flathead fishing in the country! I've even got some friends that own river front property close by that I'm sure I could get permision from so it wouldn't have to be a crowded public campground. It'll be coming around this spring. If anyone is close enough and wants to attend get in touch with me and we'll try to organize something. Peace!

I post this with some trepidation as to whether I have mastered James' instructions
lots of rock and pop here - mainly easy sequences
as I play unaccompanied I usually play rythym parts - I have lots of fun from playing different rythym grooves, whether laid back reggae, funk, ska, blues shuffles, straight ahead power chords or gentle arpeggios.
Hey man, I was really surprised to see "Rudi, a message to you" by The Specials in your songbook! I love this band and very few people (at least in my part of the world) know who they are. It's a great song though and loads of fun to play. I posted a link to the vid for it about 6 months ago here on chordie to spread the word. Are they well known in London still?

Re: Met a fellow Chordian today. (22 replies, posted in Chordie's Chat Corner)
One of these days we all need to have a kind of chordian convention. Like just pick a place go tent city it and hang out and play, pick each others brains and have a grand old time. Maybe sometime when the weather is not so darn cold. I know it might be tough to get the whole crew together but we could start small and have little regional get togethers. Who knows, maybe some day we could all head up Per's way.
Sounds great to me! Sort of a Chordie Woodstock...lol A weekend of campfires and guitars...It'd be a ball for sure! Peace!

Last rebel and upyerkilt, both of your links are carrying me to my own songbook? I had the same problem with mine. James corrected it for me. I believe you may have to search your songbook by name and post the link versus hitting my songbook and posting that one. Not sure though...maybe someone else can help us clear up the glitch...Peace!

I was just wondering what songs some of my fellow Chordians play. If you have a songbook how about throwing up a link so we can check out what you've been up to. I think it's a great way to get to know people. I feel you can tell alot about a person by their music.
I Play a wide variety of music and get alot of my music from books but I have about 60 or so in my songbook. It should give you a good idea of the styles I prefer to play.
http://www.chordie.com/publicbooks.php? … ngid=96489
I play almost 100% acoustic. I'm currently going through a Jack Johnson, Ben Harper, and Bob Marley phase. Just can't seem to get enough of it..lol I have a real percussive playing style.

Topic: Sound hole pick up for acoustic bass? (2 replies, posted in Guitars and accessories)
This is probably a stupid question but will a soundhole pickup for a 6 string acoustic work well for an acoustic bass? A friend has a dean playmate bass the acoustics aren't that bad but the electronics it came with are trash. I was going to recommend to him possibly a soundhole pickup but wanted to make sure it would work properly before I made a fool of myself...lol Thanks!

The vid is a joke right? He can't be serious! Russell, I'm with you on this one. This would cause much more harm then good to absolute beginners. It was good for a laugh though....I just hope people realise it is a joke!

Re: LEFT HANDED ACOUSTIC GUITARS (3 replies, posted in Acoustic)
Hey Doc, I've done this before. A seagull s6 I had previously. It was almost new so I was able to remove the other pickguard with out any discoloration. I left it without a pickguard, just liked the look...It's a little more complicated then that though. A new nut has to be cut and the bridge and saddle has to be replaced. I did it because I could get a great deal on a left handed model and was able to do the majority of it myself. I've also ordered a 12 string model of a guitar because of the slightly wider neck it had and strung it as a 6 string. I loved the 6 string version of it but the neck was too narrow for my taste. Stringing the 12 as a 6 worked wonderfully and she played excellent.

Re: Adding video (6 replies, posted in About Chordie)
You need to be approved by Per to do this. Only videos containing your work can be posted in responce to the tabs. We have to avoid any copywrite infringements. If ,for say, you have a video of you playing or a tutorial for a song that you want to add to the tab then send a link to the administrator and they can view it and possibly approve you for this feature. That's how I did it...Peace!

Re: International shipping? (5 replies, posted in Chordie's Chat Corner)
Contact a "freight forwarder". I suspect a large part of the cost of shipping internationally is the expense of dealing with customs. If you don't have a commercial account with UPS, you're going to get creamed on international freight. Check your yellow pages for a freight forwarder. They specialize in international freight. While it sounds crazy, with something as small as a ukelele, air freight may be your best bet. Sometimes international flights have extra weight capacity. The airlines try to use that up by taking freight to get the most bang for the buck out of their flight. The freight forwarders will know about that, and they'll also know about dealing with customs paperwork.
One thing to insist upon with international business is being paid - and having the check clear - BEFORE shipping.
- Zurf
Thanks!! I'll check into it!

The buyer will pay all shipping costs but if it's too high it will effect the price he's willing to pay....The costs of shipping just seemed really high to me. I didn't know if there was something I was missing?

OK I've got a potential customer on Ebay that is requesting shipping to France. The quote I get from the big names (UPS, USPS and Fed ex) range from $225- $400. Now this is for only a ukulele! The guy I'm dealing with says he usually pays between $50 - $125 shipping for Ukuleles and mandolins from the US. Am I doing something wrong? I figured someone here may ship or buy internationally and have some tips to reduce the shipping cost. Any advice would be appreciated! Peace!

Re: WHAT MADE YOU DECIDE TO BUY THAT PARTICULAR GUITAR (15 replies, posted in Chordie's Chat Corner)
I ordered my first guitar online. I don't have a real music store close by. Even if I did I wouldn't have known what to look for in tone or playability. At the time I couldn't even strum one evenly much less form a chord. I would have just ended up following the sales person around the store and probably buying the guitar with the most mark up to put cash in his pocket. As that would be the one he'd have swore was best for me to start with and I wouldn't have known better. Instead I did alot of online research. I knew I wanted to put around$200 in a first instruement so I browsed the retailers online reading reviews. I made a list of the ones I was considering and then went to music forums and asked on personal opinions from more experienced players. Everyone was helpfull...Isn't it great how music can bring people together! I ended up getting a Takamine G340. I was pleased and after a little (well OK, ALOT) of practise and playing some other guitars I feel that I made a good choice. I have since then sold it but would recommend them to anyone.
I think Frankster made a wise choice also. I love the Godin line, a great value! If I started over I would consider them...Hell I'd buy one know...lol At the time I had never heard of Godin Guitars.

Re: acoustic and classical... (22 replies, posted in Acoustic)
You don't need a lot of money to play both. I play professionally for a living and I use one of these for my 'practicing at home' guitar. Too many people place too much emphasis on the quality(price) of the instrument one plays in the early stages of the learning process. It's the man not the machine that does the work. Key words here for all you potential argue-a-holics- (( EARLY STAGES))
I have a blue one of these...LOL I use it on fishing trips. I bought it to keep in the canoe and play at campfires when we camp at night. Real rough set up out of box but with a little fileing and shaving she actually does fairly good.

Dear Pix, did you listen to that singer called ARNO, and or his old band TC MATIC? You should.
Yea I checked 'em out. Some good stuff there!
I carried my 3 boys to the park this past Sunday and decided to carry the old guitar with me...Anyway, While they're playing I find a picnic table and sit down and start playing around some. A few people migrate over to listen and about a half hour into it I play kvraagetaan by the Fixkes. Just the tune as I don't know the lyrics yet..;) After I finish it several people inquired as to what song it was and a couple even had me to replay it so they could record it on their phones. Just thought you'd find it Interesting... I believe it could be a hit here in the US if a translated version was ever done.

The lesson is great sounds like an easy song to start picking. Hey Guitarpix, are they pictures of all you'r guitars? I love the site I would like more people to post pics of there guitars. I have four guitars myself and I enjoy looking at all different kinds. Maybe someone can start a thread, I'm not sure how to post pics on chordie but I'll try to figure it out.
Hey jcellini, Yea they're my guitars...Well some of them
I have a few more that I haven't posted pics of yet. Excuse all the extra pics of the Martin at the moment...I have an auction going on Ebay that is linked to those pics. As soon as it's over I'll get the pics back in order. Peace!

Re: hey there delilah (6 replies, posted in Acoustic)
Also there's an easier way to finger the chords. If you just take into consideration the actual strings that you'll be plucking. You should be able to work it out but if you need a hand let me know and I'll make you a quick vid with the easier fingering positions.

Wow Pix, I just checked out your collection. Very nice. I also checked out your Guitarpix/Acoustic songbook and like that too. I'll learn a few tunes from that for when you visit. Offer's still good beers are on me.
Hey Topdown, Yea I've been thinking of making that trip. What days are good for you generally? I could leave here about 8 or 9 in the am and get there around lunch. Any day is good for me ( Being self employed has it's advantages when you want to take a day off...lol) Just give me about a weeks notice and I'll see what I can arrange. It'll be fun to meet and jam some. I may partake in 1 or 2 beer but generally I don't drink so you'll come out of it pretty cheap...lol
