i dont know about other countrys - but in the uk you can use whatever name you want as long its not used for illegal purpose without going to a solicitor ( lawyer ) . but if you want future documents like driving licenses - passports etc then it dont cost that much to do it legaly either.

perhaps some people might have some advice on how to maintain a guitar ( cos after all it is machine and you wouldnt run your car without doing the odd few things to it and expect it to run good forever )... for instance i was told not to use furniture polish on it anywhere at all ( i dont know why ) . i use linseed oil on the rosewood neck and keep the strings lubed and clean with " fast fret" . plus other things like dont leave it in sunlight or cold and damp places etc. anyone with any advice would be greatly appreciated .....

i had the same problem when a lot younger - dying to be able to play just one song on a guitar . so - a song that was popuar at the time and the sound i wanted was HORSE WITH NO NAME - BY AMERICA . couldnt get much easier than that . but even that took me weeks . but it got me hooked and i went on from there . ( the next one was HOUSE OF THE RISING SUN )

as previously stated on here i find YOU TUBE  to be an inspiration . one guy in particular to me is FRETKILLER who ( this is just me of course ) shows in his videos that songs old and new can be done in a variety of styles and also close up of how he does it . and its all done in accoustic . ( but dont expect to see his face - lol ) . there are other guys who do the odd song here and there but as i say - he is the one that has given me inspiration to keep with accoustic only .

here is an idea - its one i do for myself and have learned a bit from it . i find old songs from the 20s - 30s and 40s . the chords and changes are often very hard. it really made me appreciate how good some of those guys were . it also adds a lot more to your overall learning . its one thing doing the modern stuff ( which i always did ) but another trying to see if you can compete with those guys .

Can someone explain this system and its benefits ?  I got no idea at all what this kind of thing is at all . It sounds like a whole lot more learning - when i have spent 30 years learning chord shapes . Thanks , but as i say , I have no idea at all.

hi - i bought a mandolin ( something i would never of imagined )after seeing some amazing lessons on YOU TUBE . as a guitar player already it helped to know that different ways of playing the same chord can be done and there are many charts on the site as well . i hope i am not explaining the obvious here - but just trying to help out a bit . also - as an aside - i wish i had took up the mandolin years ago .. its a great little intstrument.

i dont understand how the top tunes would help a lot - cos we can search for songs in peoples songbooks .

thanks roger - i didnt realise there was a way to get alternatives like that . that will definately come in usefull . there arent to many i struggle with but a few i really do . and while i am at it - is there a place on the net we can actually hear some of the stuff you guys write ? though i have played for a few years ( to many - and still rubbish , but its fun) i have never wrote anything . but its always good to hear others who do - rather than just play and sing other artists stuff etc .

I am normally a placid kind of guy - but - i get angry trying to play certain chords - GMAJ7  really does my head in . do people really play these chords ? you know the ones i mean ?  the ones where you need 8 fingers on a hand 4 times bigger than a normal hand ? . just a bit of a fool item really - but would be interested to know if its just me that gets frustrated a bit with certain impossible chords. ( read the whole item as a bit tongue in cheek)

thanks- going to give ita go . i have printed out almost 150 songs for personal use (only) and was trying to keep a back up somewhere in case anything like the site closing down happens . it would be an aweful shame . all the hard work done by people on here just for a hobby seems criminal to even think about closing it . anyway - rumours are always rife - lets hope its just one of them ...

this is just me - but i learn 5 or 6 and do them reasonably well ( the songs seem better than played from a print out - more effort etc ) and the rest i do from print outs . i wouldnt worry to much about learning 30 or 40 - lifes to short ......

so much for the freedom of the net - a case like this means that no information of any kind can be on the net - cos all information is sourced from someone elses work . also - in regard to chord tabs - do they really think that by us learning chord tabs we are not going to buy their music ? what a crazy world ....

i know the cord tabs - just cannot rememeber all the verses or the actual title of the song . but it starts with " i went up for my interview on the forth day of july - personal man he interviewd me , nearly made me cry . he made me fill in forms , until i shook with fear - about the color of my toilet rolls - and is my cousin queer ."

i know another verse - and as i say - i know the chords ( am - c) but lost the rest of the lyrics a few years ago . any help would be great .
