hey jim, powerful stuff. a very difficult subject to broach but you've done it superbly. we don't see half of what is happening over the pond, just as you don't see most of the goings on over here. as a song, you've created a fab punch line " another ugly slice of american pie". be careful, you'll get a reputation as one of those (50's & 60's) protest singers.
top work my friend

Re: Beat Of The Axe (8 replies, posted in Poems)
hi pete, wow man soooooo deep! i'm guessing that you're talking about words that meant one thing say in the 60's now in the naughties? mean or are used to mean something entirely different eg; bad now means good? how many songs and movies use the word "gay" to mean happy now it means - well gay!
it seems every generation has to have their own identity, eg; we had the beatles and the stones, now they have rap, techno and other stuff that makes no sense to me.
so, when you say "the language i lost to changed meanings" which i had no idea what you meant on second or third reading i understood. still working on the wood and axe reference. i'll get there.
nice work it's time we had to work to understand what is after all all around us and happening now.

Re: That darn F chord on Guitar (20 replies, posted in Chordie's Chat Corner)
jan, the easiest F chord shape to play is in the D shape. you will need a capo which you will place on the 3rd frett (G) the problem you'll have then is working out how to play or what shape the other chords are eg; C-G. or Bb! if you'll be playing in the key of C then the shapes will be as if you were playing A-E-D. or in the key of F; D-A-G. capos make life a lot easier.

Re: That darn F chord on Guitar (20 replies, posted in Chordie's Chat Corner)
nice change from rubbishing the B chord, by the way, is the amnesty over? haven't heard much about it for some time.....FOL
back to F, i mostly play it up the neck or using my index finger holding down the B & E strings leaving the bass E unplayed (is that a word?) again the C to F to C to F is good practice and you know what practice makes?....yeah you're right...... blisters.

Re: WIN10 UPGRADE (5 replies, posted in Chordie's Chat Corner)
Thanks Dino and Doug, good advice.
It does say that with each upgrade it can only get better? Ya think? Mmmm
As I said it took hours then as if it crashed? Stuck at 80% I thought of leaving it on all night but I got the feeling it would still be in the same place come morning. I had to unplug the PC to get it to stop! When I switched on next morning it said going back to your last....whatever? It did and works fine but the app is still on my desk top but will soon find itself in the bin!!!
Great advice friends many thanks

Re: Restring a right to lefty? (5 replies, posted in Acoustic)
Hi John
I'm a lefty too and in recent years I've bought proper left hand guitars which you should be able to pick up quite easily, maybe a little more difficult to find an acoustic. So what I did was find a guitar with a fixed bridge, mine was a fender f90 which worked fine. Though changing the nut or top bridge is recommended.
Good luck teaching your wife to play, got to be like teaching her to drive...

has anyone else been offered the win10 upgrade?
it popped up on my PC yesterday and took 2 hours to down load then another 3 hours to install but only got as far as 80% before it just seemed to freeze. i gave it a few more hours but it never got further than 80% so i stopped it but it is still on my desktop as an app.
could one of our computer savvy members tell me:
1. if i should apply the upgrade
2. is there a way to get it fully applied...so
3. my win10 is working fine so do i need the upgrade?
i would be very grateful for any help

WOW, big support for the Taffys...GO WALES!
to be absolutely honest though i'm more rugby than soccer and i'm not big on that, just the internationals. all my kids are good footballers (even the girls)
i've banned football from my TV especially when manchester united and liverpool are playing, 2 against 2 and i'm stuck in the middle! reminds of these words by the late great Gerry Rafferty; "clowns to the left of me, jokers to the right. here i am, stuck in the middle with you"

Re: one more game (7 replies, posted in My local band and me)
thanks guys, i don't know where the reggae thing came from probably from trying to find a counter rhythm. i didn't like the song at first, the story yes, but not the instrumental bits, having listened to it several times i've decided that i do like it and to be honest i cant think of another way to perform it. any suggestions?

hi guys if i get a few moments i'm hoping to record it in the next few days. thanks for the read through and nice comments. BTW i don't gamble myself, i'm a bad loser so i'd rather not do it in the first place, or it could be i'm too much of a skin flint?

now that's what i'm talking about....this is my kinda music. i once played in a band who did similar stuff, good old days! loved the flares, long hair and tele's and the music was good too. i'll watch the rest later. thanks for sharing.

Re: Dreary singer songwriters (13 replies, posted in Chordie's Chat Corner)
Know the feeling, to be honest I haven't wasted too much time watching Glastonbury but what I have heard did not impress. The only good(?) Part was that they play( mostly) live! It seems that this suicide music is what the kids want. In my set I play mostly up tempo stuff.... OK it's mainly 60s and rock and roll with a little country for good measure but I don't get many suicides lol I'll have to try harder.

while i was on holiday recently it seemed every music bar i went into the guitarist would do "the gambler" by kenny rogers sometime in their set. it must have made an impression because i think it influenced this song. it doesn't sound like it nor do i copy any of the words....
[song]
{t:One More Game.}
{st: Phill Williams.}
[C] The sun comes up. The sun goes down.
Luck is a wheel - goes round and round.
[G] Some games you win – most you don't.
[C] You should walk away.
But they [F] know that you [C] wont.
Heads you loose – tails they win.
Drown your sorrows in a bottle of gin.
[G] Bet on black – and red comes up.
[C] House always wins – such a [F] shame - bad [C] luck.
[soc]
(CHORUS)
[Am] You win big – you should [Eaug] walk away.
[Am7] Your luck is in – so you've [D] got to play.
[Em] That's the deal – and the [Emaj] dealer wins.
[Dm7] Get your money down [G] before the deal begins.
Just one more [C] game. [C-F-C]
[eoc]
[C] Cut your losses and you go on home.
Or you can stay if they give you a loan.
[G] You just get deeper in and owe them more.
[C] Cant walk away till you [F] settle the [C] score.
(CHORUS) [D]-Ooh ooh [F] ooh ooh, one more [C] game [F-C]
(SOLO; ||:D-F-C|-F-C:|| X4
[C] Sitting there with the GA crowd.
You've made it here but you know some how.
[G] It's not a drink or a smoke you fear.
[C] It's the thrill of the [F] game you [C] need.
[D]-Ooh ooh [F] ooh ooh, one more [C] game [F-C]
