First and foremost you have to find a finger and a slide that you are comfortable with.  I went thru several before I settled on the Dunlop Preachin Pipe.  I use it on my little finger.  The slide you choose must fit right and give you the tone you are looking for.  Experiment with glass, stainless, ceramic, brass, etc.

Playing slide in stardard tuning presents its own challenges.  Most of the songs you associate a slide guitar with are probably in a non-standard tuning.  I play in standard tuning too, it is possible.  Look for three note chords you can play barred across one fret to spice up your leads.

Lets see -

-MIM Satin Strat

-Fender FR-50 CE (awesome cutaway accoustic/electric resonator with a Texas tele pickup - very versitile - great tone!)

-Rogue mahogany cutawawy dreadnaught (best 120 bucks you can spend on a guitar, the Fishman pickup is worth about 70 by itself)

-Applause roundback (old, cheap, beat up, slightly warped neck - I strap it on my motorcycle or take it camping, or when I feel like making my fingers bleed)

-Custom Quad 65 amp

I've also got a few effects -

-Ibanez Weeping Demon wah

-Aphex optical compressor

-BD2 Blues Driver

-Electro Harmonix Big Muff Pi

-Digitec RP 50 mulit-effect unit
