my dad inspired me to play guitar....ever since i was a child i saw him playing his guitar like a pro and i automatically liked the sound of it....i was itching to get my hands on it when i finally told him that i want to play the guitar and he was happy beyond words.....hes been teaching me for almost 5 years and i am proud to have a cool dad like that...

i agree with franbow...practice is the magic word....how long can u depend on a teacher and make him run after you to make you learn guitar if ur not even dedicated to it....
the only thing one needs is passion for the instrument and with passion there automatically comes you sitting with ur guitar several hours a day and thats practice...

the first song i played was by simon and garfunkel....i dont remember what's it called but the lyrics went like....
i'de rather be a hammer than a nail...yes i would..if i could....i surely would...yeah and i got really frustrated coz i couldnt get the Dm chord right and my father got annoyed and then i couldnt change the chords quick enough to play the song....the worst part was when i couldnt sing the higher pitch...
but when i look back now everything was so easy!
what was i fretting about!

maybe because they wanto stand out or to be remembered throughout history or maybe just to sound cool...i see no reason why people would want to change their real name to something they are not addressed to since birth!...maybe they are ashamed of their names..okay i am being ridiculous...whtever the reason...their life their choice...period

thats too bad...hope your band mate gets well soon and hope there are no other problems with his broken finger...why dont you guys get a drum machine or sumthing? practice with that for the time being..hmmm..? i have one of those and it actually is fun although playing with a drummer is totally different as compared to playing with a machine...oh well...

try luthiers choice by gibson...its a string cleaner/lubricant and u can use it with the strings still attached to your guitar...and use the same company's fret board conditioner for better performance..

hey hey hey....first those sweaty hands can damage ur guitar's neck and finishing and also as you say the strings...get some fret board conditioner and string cleaner/lubricant the brand name is luthiers choice by gibson USA....mrjay is right about the dean markley brand..i use the ghs vintage bronze strings. they are a set of light strings so try finding them if ur in need for some lighter stuff....

enjoy

it is best to start with an acoustic guitar because it gives finger strength which will inturn help you later on the electric....my dad didnt give me the electric until i had gotten the hang of the acoutic guitar...he was like ill know when u have been practicing really hard! i asked him how and he said when your finger tips harden...u all must be knowing that.....so he gave me the electric after a year i think....
so yes acoustic first and then electric but then agiain its your choice of what you wanna do. smile

mhebert is right but along with getting new strings with your guitar you should also now how to maintain them....if your budget allows it get a string conditioner and oil for your frets.....the strings not only last long but also makes it easier for you to play fluently. as far as the strings are concerned i use ghs bronze acoustic strings for my acoustic one and ernie balls super slinky and dean markely fro my electric....in the end get what ur budget allows you...

i had the same problem that you have although i play acoustic and electric but then i stopped trying to push myself to make new songs..and then one day they came naturally! i couldnt even write a poem let alone compose a song. some people have it in them and others have passion that helps them in what they want to do...the only thing i do is just sit with my guitar for hours and keep trumming and picking and saying whatever comes into my mind and in the end taadaa...its a new song...
welll that is what i do....try that if u like...goodluck man...
