Thanks everyone ...
I was more thankfull to them for having me , ( must be one of those selfish "feel good " things , L O L ) ...
You're right Wayne , it does wonders for the self confidence ... As I said , I don't often do solo , and even doing most of the lead vocals and guitar work in my band , just is'nt the same as going solo ... I think that the more I do of this , the more I'll want to do , L O L ...
Dino , we've played a few benefits at our local VFW club where the proceeds were going directly to the patients at the vets hospital in Fargo , and have talked a few times about just going there to play ...
Thanks Cam , that's a great idea ... I'll have to come up with something just for her ... If anyone has any ideas for something without too much learning time involved , ( if I don't already know it ), that would be great ...
It's funny , but at first , I was a little worried that they would'nt like some of the more " rock and roll " stuff that I like to do , so I left my 335 elect. at home and just brought a A/E six string and my A/E twelve string ... But I tested the water with CCR and another favorite of mine , America's " Sister Golden Hair ", ( which I do plenty fast and loud ) , and that's the stuff they wanted to dance to , L O L ...

Hi Crevs ,
Just saw this post so have to reiterate what some other folks have said ... My guitar partner and I have this issue also ... He likes to play the songs he sings in D or A , so I capo and use the chord voicings that I prefer in the key of C or G respectively and it works very well for us since each guitar is producing a totally diferent sound even though they're perfectly in tune ... Also a lot of songs I will flatpick while he is strumming and that makes it easier for me to put in the little base runs that we both like ...

A physically handicapped lady friend of ours lives in a subsidized apartment bldg in Fargo for the handicapped and elderly ... About a month ago she asked if I would want to come and play there for the tenants ... I told her I would if the weather cooperates ( since my band does'nt book much during the winter )... Well we set it up for this last Saturday ... I went and set up my P.A. and played some of my favorite songs for them ... I was a little nervous because I rarely do solo gigs ... Those folks had the time of their lives , and so did I ... A few were even dancing ... I played for about two and a half hours and about every half hour I'd go out for a short break and I had to walk through the tables to get out ... Every time I went out or came back in these folks would be grabbing my hands to thank me for coming to play for them , and asking if I would please come back again and I kept saying of course I would ... Well when I got done and was tearing down equipment , one of the caregivers came up to me with a little basket ... When I asked her what that was , she said it was tip money for me from the residents ( almost fifty bucks ) ... I told her to give it back because I did'nt come to play for money ... She just smiled and said she could'nt and would'nt so I had to take it ... After seeing it was hopeless , I did accept it and asked her to thank everyone ... My real reward was seeing those folks enjoy the music ... I talked to our friend on the phone this morning and one of the older ladies that was there has a ninty fifth birthday coming in February and when her kids asked her what she wanted for her birthday she told them see wanted Jerry to come and play for them again , so I guess I have to , L O L ........

Well thank you MKM ... And Happy Holidays , Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you and all the other good folks on here ... I've been meaning to post a similar thread myself , but just can't get on here as much as I would like ... As Scrooge's nephew said , " I plan to wish him a merry Christmas every year , whether he likes it or not " , ( well something to that effect ) ... L O L ............ Thanks again .........

Hi Bikewer ,
Yes , I agree , when I'm recording , or should say , when I used to record , then I always used something a little brighter ... But then , I could lay down the bass track seperately ... I guess the reason I like a bass heavy guitar is because we don't have a bass player in my band and the rhythm player depends on me to lay down a bass line for the songs that need it , L O L .........

Yea , " Fast Fret " works , but I don't use it much ... And when I change strings , I use linseed oil on the fingerboard ...
Hey NELA , you use " snot " Too ?? I've used it for years because I like a medium pick and a light grip most of the time ... Friends give me crap about it , but then they're dropping picks and I'm not , so ......... L O L ....

Yea Zurf ,
I've never even heard of an acoustic putting out too much bass ... It's all subjective though , like a lot of other aspects regarding tone ... I've always prefered an acoustic that is capable of some good bass ... My newest Guild , ( top of the line F-65CE ) that I bought new in '99 , has always been a disappointment as far as bass output goes , whether it's plugged in or not ... Great guitar otherwise ...

Funny how this thread resurfaced ...
For the last month or so , I've been working on a lot more stuff by America for my band to do , and they used a twelve on everything that I have seen so far ... Now , I've had two twelve stringers in the past and did'nt play them enough so ended up selling them both ... This time , I thought maybe I could find one to borrow for a week or so , ( trying to get a fuller sound ) , and then decide if I wanted to buy another one ... Well , nobody I know has one so I started looking at cheap new ones ... Found an Epiphone DR-212 at the Friend priced at 169.00 and ordered it thinking that if it's a total piece of crap , I can always return it , ( love that 45 day no questions return policy on anything under 2000 .00 ) ... Well , it showed up today and I can't believe the quality of this guitar ... Sounds pretty good right out of the box and after it opens up a little , I'll put good strings on it and I think it will do just fine ...

Hey Cam ,
The only snow we've gotten was one night in october ... Wife and I were sitting in the hot tub and it was snowing like heck , L O L ... It was gone about a day later ... This time of year though , you never know what it's gonna do ... I make my living in the winter time by moving the stuff , but I always have mixed feelings about seeing it , L O L ...

Hi ,
Congrats on the new guitar , and I hope you sent your pretty wife flowers the next day , L O L ... It's always great to bring something new into the stable ... I'm hoping that my pretty little wife will support me when the time comes ... Got my eye on a new Guild F-50 rosewood , which is actually second choice to the F-47R , but I can buy the F-50 for almost seven hundred less ... I have Guilds in Hog and Maple , but really want the warmth of rosewood ... Oh well , I hope , I hope , L O L ...

Zurf ,
I have never believed that I sing well ... It always amazes me that the other singer in my band wants me to do most of the lead vocals , I can only surmise that he does'nt want to have to learn the songs , L O L ...
One piece of advice I have always given anyone who says their singing stinks is , " just do your own songs , then how ever you do it , is the way it's supposed to sound ", L O L ... Then if someone else wants to do the song , they have to try and sing it the way you do , L O L ....

Hey Ken ,
I can't think of any songs that I do that I never thought that I would do ... With me it's always been more like songs that I never thought I could do , L O L ... Right away one song comes to mind , and that's " Yesterday when I was Young " by Roy Clark ... Always loved the song and one day last winter I started playing around with it , and got a good accoustic version of it down ... People tell me that it sounds real good ... Even some sober people , L O L ...

Hey bswyers ,
   Sorry , I did'nt see this post earlier ...
In my experience the necks are finished ( that is sealed ) , but not stained ... I suppose this is due to the fact that that little neck is exposed to a lot of handling and the color would just wear off anyway ... My older fiddles don't have any finish at all left on the necks ...
As far as learning material , there is a lot available on the web , but I would recommend getting her a good self teaching book that comes with a CD ...
What ever you do , make sure she has a tuner , pitch pipe , or other means of tuning the thing ... Standard tuning is G D A E , from the heavy to the light strings respectively ... If I remember correctly , it will be tuned around middle C if you have a piano or keyboard in the house ... G will be just to the low side of C and the rest just to the high side ... Any good beginner book will have the basic dos and don'ts ... I could go on forever about a lot of basics that I had to learn the hard way , but a good book will get her started ...

Thanks Wayne ,
That was wonderfull ... I've never heard the song played in 4/4 or fingerpicked ... I'm a flatpicker from way back , so I've always done it the other way ... It's always been a favorite of mine ... Vocals were very good also ... I like the way you take a song and make it your own ... I also have always tried to do that ... Thanks again ...

Hey , we used to be " Hard Ground " , a cool name that I got from Badeye , but people that had'nt heard us thought that we were a head banging band so we changed it just recently ... Since we're three old farts , we were going to go with " Last Chance " , but then settled on " Last Call " , because even when we play early , we're all still around at that time of night , L O L ...

Hey Cam ,
Sorry to hear that , but a lot of the time things like this can be a blessing in disguise ... No one is immune in this economy ... Lot of folks tell me that since I'm self employed , I don't have to worry about that stuff , but when there just is'nt a lot of money around , people don't spend like they would and that affects me too ... Hey , enjoy the time and play guitar and we'll look forward to seeing you on here more , L O L ... Just getting into my slower time also , so hopefully I'll be around more too , L O L ...

Hi All ,
    You guys have no idea , L O L ...
I have nine guitars in my little collection , and just lately I've been looking at the Guild F-47 R ........ It's 2250.00 , But if it stands up to what I've experienced with my other Guilds , it would be worth the price .... Will let you know , L O L ...........

Hi All ,
Have to agree with tandm on this , I have a 44 yr old Guild and a 62 yr old Gibson in my collection and I would also put there tone against their more modern counterparts knowing which would win .........

Hey Crevs ,
Congrats on choosing a new path ...
As for music not really intended for guitar , heck I'll take anything ( if I like it ) , and do it with guitar ... If I can do an accoustic version of Phil Collins' " In The Air Tonight ", then I think just about anything can be played on guitar , L O L ........

Poker ??
We're not , never have been and never will be gamblers ... I guess if you like the game , then it's good if you can play for free ... We just know too many people who if they get an extra hundred bucks , they have to run to the casino ... Three of my younger sisters are really into it , and none of them can afford it ... One of them , when her and her husband go , ( which is about once a week ) , always take their credit cards along , L O L ... Then they wonder why they're not getting anywhere finacially ...
About once a year , if my wife and I are completely bored on a winter Sunday , we'll run up to the casino that's thirty two miles away ... We'll each throw twenty bucks away on the slots and when we're done , we go have buffet lunch ( which is worth the trip alone ) and go home ...
I guess we figure that we work too hard for our money to throw it away like some folks do ... Like they say , if it was a winning game , the casino would'nt be there , L O L ... My idea of gambling is spending a stamp on a Publishers Clearing House entry , L O L ...
